I was very impressed with this hotel and the staff. It is in the center of the Jardin and church. The church bells did not bother us at all (they have ear plugs for the guest, but did not use it). Actually, we loved it! It made this hotel very pleasant experience. Well decorated, rooms are big and spacious with newly renovated bathrooms. The interior decorations of the hotel are very nice. They have on the first floor and are for guest w/the interior of the patio and little fountains, a nice touch! Very charming hotel with 24/7 front desk and also we noticed during late night they have a security person guarding the 2nd floor and area, so it makes us feel very safe! Kudos to the housekeeping for cleaning our rooms nicely. No complains at all! The only downsize are the rooms only have fans, not A/C. Something that will help during the hot weather. We asked for more fans, since one rooms didn't have windows. Besides that just letting you know, plan to go during spring or fall. Not May as we did. They don't a restaurant to eat, but they gave us "vouchers" to have breakfast to 2 different places in town (walking distance, very closed by the hotel), with wonderful choices to eat and picture perfect small restaurants. Anything in that town is almost perfect! The staff was very professional and friendly. Very helpful to recommend places to go and eat. Although, I was disappointed the last day we were living. It was difficult to get all the luggage down to the awaiting taxi the day we were departing. They need to have a better staff to accommodate this problem for the guests that stay in the 2nd floor. There's not an elevator, so be prepared to take the stairs. When we arrived, one of the staff, Daniel was excellent! He has the right attitude helping us to accommodate our luggage. But, unfortunately, the day that we were leaving was his day off. Very upset that he was not the one handling our luggage, that would it made a big difference. The management needs to address this with your staff if you want more guest to stay in your lovely hotel. I will highly recommend this hotel to my family & friends in a heartbeat!
The updated rooms at this hotel are some of the nicest in "appearance" that we have found in San Miguel. Housekeeping is absolutely excellent in both the rooms & public areas. Hotel staff was also pleasant & accommodating. So why would we not return? The owners have obviously spent large sums to upgrade the property & at first look it is truly lovely. Unfortunately, they are promoting the property as a 4+ star hotel, but none of the rooms are air conditioned & none have heating. So in the hot summer months the upper floor rooms are sweltering with only a floor fan for a breeze, & in the winter there is no heat in most rooms, & a wood-burning fireplace in others for heat. It is inconceivable that owners would make the obvious investment that they have in this property, yet NOT install wall-mounted A/C or heating units. Not in a 4+ star property. If A/C or heating is not important in your choice of accommodations, you can stay at a 2 star B+B & be perfectly happy at far less cost. If you do stay here, I suggest the ground floor rooms which have 20' foot ceilings, since they are somewhat cooler, but in another surprising choice by ownership, do not have ceiling fans. Upper floor rooms have lower ceilings that would not accommodate ceiling fans, & top floor rooms are sweat-boxes when you return in the evening, since they receive full-on sun exposure the entire day. You also cannot leave your windows open, since every little noise comes directly into the room at night, including every single guest who enters, leaves, laughs, or talks on the phone. You may also not like leaving your windows open at night for other passing guests to peer into as they come & go. One night at 1:00AM we were awakened by what sounded like someone sitting at the end of the bed talking to us, when it was actually another guest sitting in the patio 2 floors below talking on the phone. The patio is one HUGE echo chamber, & management must do something to lessen this problem. Add lots of plants. Put a cover over the patio to lessen BOTH noise levels AND reduce sunlight & heat during the day. For now they definitely need oscillating fans & not floor fans which are VERY loud. Our 1st room had a LOUD floor fan & we requested an oscillating model, but was told they did not have such. We changed rooms to the 1st floor & had a "partially working" oscillating fan, which did not oscillate, but was at least quiet. Rooms are very nicely furnished & have good linens, but this does not cancel out the noise & heat. Sound of the church bells were not a problem for us, since we encounter this in many International locations, but guest noise WAS a problem. In addition, there are only 4-5 rooms on the 1st floor. Other rooms are 3, 4 or 5 flights up, so if stairs are a problem for you, please be aware. Fantastic location for first time visitors to San Miguel "if" heat & noise are not an issue. Hotel does not have a restaurant, so you must ask "every" single morning for a voucher to use at a restaurant 3 blocks away. On our 1st morning we were sent to the wrong restaurant in error, & had to return & get directed to "another" restaurant.
A friend and I stayed at this hotel for three nights in May, and I almost don't want to write a great review for fear of you wanting to book the same time I do ;-). We LOVED this hotel. It's both modern and charming with amazing service from the front desk 24/7. Yes, we heard church bells and some noise from the street and Jardin (main square) but that's half the reason we loved it. All the peculiar sounds of San Miguel add to the city's many charms, and the church bells were soothing to us in particular. All other noises were usually silenced by midnight - we were staying week nights, so I can't speak for the weekends. As other posters have mentioned, the location is a few feet from the main square and perfect for exploring the area, but getting back easily for a siesta or to pick up a sweater. The rooms and common areas were meticulously clean and just charming - the pictures don't begin to do it justice. The staff were awesome as well. My friend and I were having a difficulty adjusting to the altitude the first night and were too tired (and a little dizzy) to get dinner. So, we asked one of the employees if he would be so kind as to walk over to the restaurant down the street to pick up food for us and deliver it to our room. He did so happily and even walked down to the convenience store to bring us two cold bottles of water. We were so grateful and happy to tip him well for the free service. Other suggestions: if you have difficulty with stairs, make sure you can get a downstairs room (they are beautiful anyway). If you have problems with noise bring ear plugs or headphones - but we didn't need either. If you are expecting central AC or heat, don't. They aren't necessary anyway - even in May which is a typically "hot" month for San Miguel. Both my friend and I said we wouldn't care to stay anywhere else on our next visit. I just hope you haven't booked our room first!
Can't beat the location, right in the center of town. Slightly noisy because it sits across from a church and the bells go off at least every half hour. Despite this, you can still get a good nights sleep in a comfortable room. Our room was large and confortable and minimally furnished. The hotel and the grounds are clean.
Classy place in a perfect location with all updated rooms. Comfortable, easy, beautiful. We all really loved staying here! The bellmen were amazing carrying our luggage up and down - wow! Tip those guys nicely!!!!!
Great location and value in the heart of San Miguel de Allende. Staff very helpful with perfect recommendations. Cocierge parking a real benefit. Quiet and beautiful rooms with wifi, tv, and jacuzzi tube. We loved this hotel!
We stayed here for four nights a couple of weeks ago and it was an excellent experience. The hotel is on a small street just off the main square, everything was within walking distance...and we did plenty of walking! The breakfast, though not provided at the hotel itself, was provided across the street at a delightful cafe, and it was very good indeed. Delicious choices, good coffee and attentive service. The staff at the hotel couldn't have been more helpful or friendly. Our rooms were very big and comfortable, the bathroom excellent. The church bells didn't bother us at all.
I just stayed one night here in January. The staff at the front desk were extremely friendly and helpful. They let us check in early and also check out late. We weren't leaving San Miguel de Allende until 5pm, so they kept our bags in storage so we didn't have to carry them around the whole day. The hotel is in an old colonial home but with all modern features. I loved the bathroom and tub/shower. They provide the ear plugs because of the church bells, however I didn't use or need them because I sleep soundly. We had a room on the main floor and I didn't really notice the bells ringing. The only negative I have with this place is that the wifi is weak or non-existent in the room. We had to walk out to the patio if we wanted to use it which isn't a big deal since the weather is really nice but a little inconvenient. For the location and the value I would stay here again when I came back to San Miguel de Allende.
The hotel is clean and small. The decoration is very typical from the region. It is right next to the church. I came for business and I didn't mind the hotel since I was in it very little. My colleges all complained about the bells of the church ringing all the time and they couldn't sleep. To be honest if I came for vacation I probably wouldn't stay here. One very positive is that The people working here are very nice and helpful.
This clean hotel, closely located in the heart of San Miguel was very nice. When we inquired why there were earplugs on the bed, we were told it was for the odd Mariachi Bands that play in the plaza. We were not expecting the clanging Church bells every 15 minutes throughout the night. Some Church bells ring...but the Parroquia De San Miguel Arcángel bells clang, and loudly. At 6:00 a.m. on the weekend, the cacophony of clanging from multiple churches was joined by a brass band, with drums and tuba. Reading other reviews it seems we either sleep more lightly than others or the Church has increased the reminders of its existence. It is a challenge for any earplug.
