I LOVE THIS LITTLE HOTEL! is like staying in an OLD hacienda. Super SUPER cute! DECORATED WITH A MIX of old and modern furniture. It is located down town just across the street of the Ex convent del Carmen. This area is famous to be in the Gay Area. Bars and restaurants all over. The Hotel restaurant has a sitting area outside , super nice for early breakfast! the food is nothing "expectacular" outstanding but good enough for brunch. BTW everybody speaks English.
They no longer offer parking :-( this might make me go else where in the future. Hot water, yes takes for ever but eventualy you get it. Reservation system i do no like, they basicly give you the room they wat you to have, the palce is empty i am the only one in the hotel but i can not get the room i want. They are under new managment, but they are not quite there yet. Reception staff , great.
My big room was clean, bright, and colorful with a view over the street below through those wooden swing open windows you want when you visit Mexico. Tamarind candies at the front desk. The breakfast buffet at Chai, the restaurant in the lobby, was excellent. Great place to stay at a great price. The small plaza right outside the hotel is a gem. Great small scale hotel if you want to stay in the historic centro near lots of good stuff to explore. I'd definitely come back.
Staff was friendly, comfortable room, clean and we liked the restaurant but the outlet by the bed was dead, no hot water in the morning and there were extremely noisy drag racers outside late at night. I couldn't recommend this hotel
The entrance to the hotel is covered by the Chai restaurant. If you have a lot of luggage it can be hard to get through past all of the tables. We got offered a complimentary drink which was a nice touch and was delivered to our room. The rooms are very very nice with lots of great details. The hot water however takes forever.
The manager and staff were all very friendly and attentive. We felt well taken care of. The hotel itself is really cool. The decor is interesting, each room has a different "theme" or style. Our room, the "Vlady" was very spacious and the bed was super comfortable. Everything was clean and organized. The hot water in the shower did take a little long to come out but it is an old house and during cold January mornings it's understandable. The AC/Heater worked great. Complimentary water bottles were a great plus, hardly any hotel will just let you have more for free. The restaurant downstairs is really good! As you can tell when you notice it always has people in it! The location is great, in front of a little plaza and a beautiful church. About a 10minute walk to the historic center. Overall I loved it and I will definitely try to come back when I'm in Guadalajara.
I've stayed here twice before and always enjoyed it. This visit was not the best. Too bad - the rooms are very nicely designed. The building is beautiful. The Chai restaurant has CONSUMED the hotel. We arrived in the evening and every inch of lobby space was filled with tables for the restaurant. The entrance to the hotel was almost completely blocked by restaurant customers, tables, and waiters. Barely enough room to maneuver our small carry on size bags. The hotel credit card terminals are the restaurant terminals so I was not able to use my MasterCard Hotel Only spending cards at...wait...my hotel??...because the 'hotel' is designated as a 'restaurant' merchant. The wifi does not work in the rooms...or maybe there were just so many diners that no signal was left for the hotel guests! I think this will be my last stay here...and too bad because I've done nothing but say positive things to everyone I know - not realizing how bad it has become.
My husband and I stayed at the Del Carmen Concept Hotel for a weekend and enjoyed the hotel very much. You can't beat the location and the room we stayed in (Tamayo) was very clean, had fun decor, spacious and comfortable. It was missing the usual basics like a coffee/espresso maker, ice bucket or small refrigerator, but that is to be expected at a boutique hotel, And there is a coffee shop right downstairs! We were right over the restaurant/bar and it was VERY loud until the wee hours (it was a weekend). We live in a major US city, so the noise didn't bother us too much, but I could see how it could be a negative for others. The hotel staff was very friendly, spoke English and were helpful with restaurant reservations and leaving our bags there on check-out day. Also, the wifi worked very well. Our only gripe with the stay was that they said the credit card machine wasn't working and asked up to pay cash. I have not heard of this before and we usually like to use a credit card for hotel bills. I would definitely recommend the hotel to travelers looking to be in the middle of everything but still want a safe and comfortable space. I will stay here again on any return trips to Guadalajara.
I like it. Warm friendly staff. "ARTSY" (cute, my daughters would say). There's a restaurant but not part of the hotel. Did not try their food but the menu looked OK for a light fare, pizzas, sandwiches and the like. Good luck if you plan to sleep past - let's say 6:30 am. The neighborhood is very much alive and noisy all day. Mainly traffic. But since I'm an early riser it did not bother me. It is, however, charming to be in downtown imagining back in time, the life of the house where the hotel is now, with a park right in front and a beautiful church as next door neighbor. Taking a walk around downtown is the real immersion into the pulse of the city, it's colors, people, noise, smells.... Folclórico, we say in Mexico. Give it a try if you are exploring Mexico and OK with waking up early.
Del Carmen Concept Hotel is located centrally and conveniently to the historic center of town. Everything the center of town has to offer is easily accessed. Chapultepec is also within walking distance. The hotel is located on a small plaza off of Juarez. The hotel is well appointed, the room spacious, bed comfortable and internet was fast. The reason for the 3 stars: our room was located in the front of the hotel, above the restaurant. Noise in the front room is extremely high due to its proximity to the restaurant below, which drags its tables in/out in the morning/night. Also, although a small plaza separates the hotel from Juarez, the noise from the road is also very high. I would consider staying here again due to its location, but only if I could get a room on the opposite side of the road/restaurant, of which there is at least one.
