This hotel is very dated, and could use some updating. However it is clean and was a convenient location for my trip. The hotel lacks a gym, which is a draw back for me. There is a nice park adjacent to the hotel which helps, but not enough in my eyes. The breakfast was well stocked, and in general the food was good within the hotel. Wifi was ok. Frustrating that you must log in daily, but the service was free.
Very central and in a quiet area. I always choose a high floor to try and get away from the noise of the ambulance sirens as you are next to a hospital. There is a lovely park near the hotel and if your lucky you might get a view of it. Rooms are quite small but I travel here myself so it's fine. Have been coming here for years and am happy with the surroundings. Hotel also offers a good breakfast but I normally walk into town. All rooms come with a balcony which is quite nice to open in the summer.
Was again here for a quick stopover for a trade show in Düsseldorf. I like this Hotel, because the staff always seem to make me feel at Home. The Breakfast has to be the Best of all the Hotels in Gelsenkirchen, and the Bar/Restaurant is Superb, (not Hautecuisine, but you know what I mean), good Prices and the service is Great. I can heartily recommend this Hotel to anyone who wants to be central in the RheinRühr region.
Arrived at hotel around 6pm on a hot day. The room was really stuffy as no air conditioning. No kettle or complimentary tea or coffee which was very disappointing. Mini bar and safe were in the room. Very old TV (not flatscreen) which seemed ancient but fitted well in this room as it was very 70's style and still stuck in the 70's and the room could do with being completely refurbished. The bathroom was also 70's style but complimentary shampoo and shower gel were available and the shower was powerful. We were on a coach trip and a set evening meal was pre booked. We had a nice mushroom soup but it was served without any bread (they did give us bread after we requested it but everyone was surprised we had to ask for it). We also had to ask for salt and pepper as these were not on the table, maybe because we were on the terrace. The main meal was plentiful and good and the desert was lovely. The breakfast buffet was excellent The hotel was just about ok for a night stopover but I wouldn't like to have stopped here for a longer period as it seemed so dated. Free wifi was provided here.
I spent a night in this hotel when on business trip. The grandeur is a bit outdated, but still, I had a good stay. Spacious and clean rooms with great, comfortable beds and a large bathroom (pity there's a shower curtain). WiFi is unfortunately a bit slow. Nice wellness area with swimming pool, sauna and enough hot and cold showers. Dinner in the pub was good, breakfast okay but nothing too special. Friendly and helpful staff. Large private parking area for a reasonable fee of 10 euro per night.
I stayed here for a music event and loved everything about it. Although the decor is, as others have said, dated (and after all the 70s are coming back into fashion now!), everything is spotlessly clean and comfortable, the staff couldn't be kinder or more helpful, and the location is perfect - an easy walk to the centre of town. There is a choice of bars and restaurants both in the hotel and nearby, the breakfast is excellent and generous with a spread of cereals, yogurt, meats, cheeses, fish, many sorts of bread, rolls and pastries as well as cooked items. Every room has a balcony, many overlooking the beautiful and peaceful local park. There is free Wifi and although there are no tea or coffee facilities in the room, kettles, adaptors, ironing boards, extra pillows (they are a little bit flat) etc are available from the desk. And all this for much less than you might pay elsewhere.
Stayed one night. The room was excellent (we were on the 11th floor with nice view). Breakfast was very good and this hotel offers almost everything, except they should have vending machines or a small store to buy water and/or soft drinks. The location is excellent, within a walkin distance from the city center. The park by the hotel is also nice.
One night stay on route to Berlin. Pleasant comfortable rooms, spotlessly lean. Excellent buffet dinner (wine list a bit thin but good Weissburgunder) and buffet breakfast. Friendly helpful staff. Automatic alarm at 7 a.m when the local church bells ring.
We were there for one night when attending a live concert in Veltins arena. The hotel needs a lot of refurbishment, public places like lobby, bar and restaurant as well as the rooms. We were on the 14th floor and had a good view but that was about it. The room itself was pretty worn out and definitely needs a serious renovation (like probably all other rooms). And whilst the room was ok clean it felt very different because it was so old. Staff was not very friendly. Not really helpful when we looked for a parking space for our car as the lot in front of the hotel was full. We paid 130 Euros per night excl breakfast. Price reflected high demand due to the concert and only little supply in Gelsenkirchen. We would not stay there again.
Stayed in Gelsenkirchen while visiting the Techn Classic car show in Essen. From teh outside the hotel looks a little weary - a good clean and some fresh paint wouldn't go amiss. Inside it's well maintained with friendly and helpful staff. On two nights we havd a buffet dinner which was very good with excellent choices - on our third nighnt, a Friday, we were the only group in the dining room and we were served a set menu ... it was a bit of a let down by comparison. Rooms were spacious and well equipped and most of them semed to have a balcony. I'd happily return to this hotel
