The Grand Hotel & Spa

One of the best.

Old traditional hotel. Big rooms. Everything excellent: staff, facilities, location ...

Crown Spa Hotel Scarborough by Compass Hospitality

Lovely location overlooking the sea

The hotel is in a lovely location. Pleasant lobby with lounging area. "Light snacks" make for more affordable eating than their regular hotel fare. Not enough water to run a tub for a bath. Disappointing after hours of toting bags, trains, and walking. Much of the clientele was older - 50s, 60s, 70s. Beautiful walk down the slope to the beach just outside the hotel's front door.

Guy Fawkes Inn

Historic Inn and everything that comes with age.

Guy Fawkes Inn is a historic inn in the central part of historic York. It is a short walk from the train station and next door to the Minster. You enter through the pub and the bar tenders are the support staff and check you into your room. The entire building is an old historic facility. It is not an accessible building (steps/ no elevator) if that matters to you. The pub is pleabian and fits the bill for a beer before or after dinner or an afternoon break from site seeing. We stayed in Room 8 - top floor. While billed as a luxury hotel - it is not. The historic nature and age of the inn - crooked floors, squeaky doors, poor lighting, street noise are part of the ambiance but are not fancy or upscale. The room was small and there was not a place to open two suitcases. The bed and pillows were those of a budget inn and did not meet the expectation of the price paid for the room. The WiFi did not work in the room.
