Flights to Guatemala
Most flights to Guatemala are serviced by the La Aurora International Airport (GUA), four miles from the center of Guatemala City and 16 miles from Antigua. The U.S. Army Air Force used the airport to defend the coastline of Central America against the Axis during WWII. Although there are now several other airports for flights to Guatemala, including MundoMaya International Airport, Puerto Barrios Airport, San Jose Airport, and Quetzaltenango Airport, La Aurora is South America's fourth busiest airport. After much modernization, the airport now has two terminals, as well as a small regional terminal to handle your Guatemala flights. La Aurora has two VIP lounges; one for Iberia Airlines and another for Copa and United Airlines. After getting off your Guatemala flights, you can rent a car or taxi, but make sure you agree the fare beforehand.
After getting off your flights to Guatemala, you'll find that it has two seasons. The winters are rainy (raining mostly every day), and the summers are dry. But don't be fooled by this; throughout the year, it can be warm during the day and cold at night. It is usually hot and humid by the beach all year. Be sure to bring rain clothing on your Guatemala flights during the rainy winter season of May through October. Looking at it another way, the Pacific and Peten Lowlands are generally hot and humid, while the highlands are cooler and more temperate.
