If the 13 original colonies visited this motel, they’d want there to be 14! Great spot to rest and turn up at the same time. Check in was quiet and easy. Sign at front desk said only two visitors per room, but the man checking us in said our moms could come too if they wanted. Excellent shower head, would definitely colonize here in the future!
The Colony Motel is what is says, nothing more nothing less. The room I had was clean and suitably equipped with a large TV, fridge & microwave. The room was clean and satisfied my requirements. It is on the road between La Grange and Brookfield and was walking distance from the Metra Station at both of these places as the local one is a peak hour only stop.
It would have been way better had I not already booked and paid for the reservation, knowing that there was a no cancellation policy. Never again. I arrived at dark, so got the key to the unit, hung my clothes on the hangars on the pole in the bathroom/closet and went to bed. The 2 bars of soap they provide you with are the exact dimensions of the little chocolate/mint candies you get from Olive Garden at the end of your meal. Same length, width and thickness. Hell I used them both just to wash the bottoms of my feet. The A/C unit worked sporadically at best, was told to keep shutting it down for an hour or so to let the compressor cool down…As I was packing up to finally leave this bad dream, I went to the closet, (daylight now) so took my clothes off the hangars and placed them in my luggage. One more quick check to make sure I had everything. And that is when I found the “glob” of black hair wound up and secured with more of the black hair. (3 pictures included below). I have no idea if this was something that someone found in the sink or tub drain, or whatever, but it was lying on the closet floor. So I took the glob to the office with my room key, laid it on the desk/glass cage/aquarium that the venomous, vicious, vile viper behind the glass cage, that was vaguely disguised as a female human, was encased in. She angrily looked at the glob, then at me. I explained how and where I found it. She then coiled and struck out at me, but thankfully the glass cage stopped her fangs from coming in contact with me and so no venom got me. However the angry hissing and coiling continued as she asked ME what I wanted HER to do about it. Just as I started to think about asking for some kind of credit on my bill, she coiled and hissed like she was rabid. I then, before she escaped the cage, told her that she would see my comments on Trip Advisor, but would never see me again at the motel. She then hissed one last time to write whatever I wanted, and that she truly hoped I would never come back again. Excellent business model all around right??
Booked this through hotels.com for $72 including tax.Wanted a cheap place for night that was near a Metra train station. This motel is just a basic no frills place to crash for one night maybe two. There is no pool, no breakfast, not even a coffee machine in the room but I knew this when i booked it. There is a 24/7 Dunkin Donuts more or less next door and plenty of places to get food to eat in or take to the motel. The room was very clean as was the bathroom and shower. The bed was very comfortable and i had no problem getting to sleep.Checking in and out was quick and the staff are friendly..HOWEVER,one huge negative point is that whilst flicking through the channels on tv, one of the was hard core porn, not to everyone's taste especially if you have kids with you, so bear that in mind if your are considering staying here. To be honest if im in the area again, i would stop here.
We booked the motel in advance. The room was clean, king size comfy bed and large flat screen (we didnt use it), AC. There was also a fridge and microwave oven. The walls are very thin, you can hear the TV from next rooms and also the traffic outside. But it is a motel :-) There are bars and restaurants in walking distance. Parking is free in front of the room and free good WiFi.
Room was clean and worth for the price, The person who attended the room service call was rude when we enquired about some details, Has an open parking lot, Room has a heater and Air conditioner, Was ok for a one night stay.
Clean room, good shower, no coffee or vending machine. Room was next to the street so kind of hard to fall asleep and could hear people walking by talking. Did have a microwave and frig in the room and good tv.
So I had to find a cheap place by the airport - just for a night - and was on a budget (flew into town unexpectedly due to a funeral.) And I was leery of a lot of places, but glad I found this (using Trivago.) It was only $60 for the night. Location isn't too bad...a Dunkin Donuts three doors down, gas station on the corner, a small neighborhood bar and a Burger King within a mile walk. But this place turned out to be clean - nice - and I can tell the propietors take care of this small motel. Nice bed, clean bath, microwave, fridge, and wi-fi. Felt safe here too. Would bring my wife and kids here if I was visiting perhaps the zoo nearby or other attractions. So if you are looking for a good, clean, budget friendly motel...this is it. Tip - if you can, stop by a gorcery store or conveinence store on your way here to stock up. Not sure where the closest food stores (other than a gas station) are.
When we arrived the parking lot was completely empty and abandoned expect for one car in the entire parking lot, which assuming belonged to the one employee seen working there. We had looked online for a double bed/2 adults room online at the best price, this place was being advertised for an offer of $47. Which despite the fact the beds in the preview pictures looked to be in horrible condition with extremely outdated and old comforters, curtains, and what appears to be massive stains on the carpets in the advertised preview pictures on their website -- hey a stay in the 40 bucks range, right? Since our plans kept changing and it ended up that we still didn't have a motel/hotel the same day as the first event we were attending, we had decided to pick a roach motel for a night with free wifi as we organize & book our stay at a Extended Stay Hotel which ended up really getting delayed to the last minute. The woman at the front desk with a thick Indian accent gave us price of practically hundred bucks to stay at this (completely empty) outdated run-down motel! We asked about a senior rate, introductory rate, etc. She immediately said "no" to all of those, I'm not sure if she even knew what those were. She said she didn't have the authority to change the price she was told to give, which is a reasonable response so we asked to talk to her manager. THAT'S when things got very unprofessional & we ended up being treated very poorly. Her body language immediately got extremely defensive and kept saying "WHY do you want to talk to manager??" Which each time we explained "We want to talk about the pricing since you, as you said, do not have the authority to negotiate the pricing." Eventually it got to the point of her belligerent refusal to allow us to speak with her manager I said in a stunned voice "We aren't 'allowed' to speak to your manager?" I was speechless, honestly, even if an employee thinks you are about to get them fired they STILL have to get you in contact with their manager regardless. When we mentioned the pricing online, she insisted we had to book through the booking agent (booking.com) to get reasonable price and than come back (which we were already on the road and not possible). We tried to explain why this is a better deal for the Colony Motel for us to come here directly, since the booking agent (in this case booking.com) takes about $20 of the shown listed price ($47) as their commission which in this case booking directly with Colony Motel at the desk would give them more money if we gave the entire $47 to them rather than them having only around $27 for the night of our stay. First she tried to argue how booking websites work [ See : http://www.thetravelinsider.info/howtobookbuy/negotiatehotelrates5.htm , to see how booking sites really work & how they are charging ] and say they don't loose money - we loose money with the booking or something like that. Eventually after enough of her behaving unbelievably childishly & rudely argumentative about it, she eventually says after enough convincing about how the booking sites work "I don't care at all if it hurts business, I don't own the place" She walks away from the front desk when by CHANCE the manager calls the front desk, which was the only way we ended up being able to talk to the manager.. finally. Also this entire time this is going on there is a loudly screaming infant in some back room the entire time we are trying to speak & communicate with the woman with thick accent, HOW relaxing for a vacation! We ended up staying at a much more upscale hotel with all the same free amenities (mini fringe, microwave, free wifi, free parking) plus many more with luxurious gold bedding, high quality mattress & fluffy pillows, gorgeous red tasseled drapes, etc. for the SAME PRICE this outdated roach motel was trying to get out of us for a 2 bed room. The woman at this front desk (fyi: it was a Best Western Plus) who was willing to negotiate & obviously properly trained how to was SHOCKED when she heard about the conduct of this cheap-o motel, how they treated us, & what they tried to charge us! We were so pleased with the helpful & flexible customer service & quality of the nearby upper scale hotel we stayed at, that charged us the same price as what the roach motel wanted we ended up staying more than one night after the first!
Stayed here the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and were pleasantly surprised. We were in the area without any reservation for lodging for the night. Knew about the Colony and planned to get a room there as there were things in the area we wanted to visit that night. First checked prices online. The motel doesn't have its own website, but can be booked through Booking.com. Prices were the same through Booking.com or by calling the motel directly. Had a bit of a hard time understanding the person working the front desk. Her English wasn't too great, but we were able to complete the transaction. Rooms were clean and nice. It reminded me of the roadside motels I used to stay in when traveling with my parents in the 1970s -- simple, clean, family run places that offered a decent place to spend the night. Although the outside looks like the Colony might be a run down dive motel, it is actually a very pleasant place. Bed was comfortable and even had lovely sheets with a flower pattern on them. There was a vase of fake flowers in the room which was a nice added touch. Free wifi worked well. Bathroom, just like the rest of the room, was clean and in good working order. One interesting point to note, is that the TV in the room offered a free porn channel. Something to beware of if you are traveling with kids. The reason we chose this motel is that there's a good beer bar called Brixie's just down the street as well as a really good arcade. Both were within walking distance which made the Colony Motel a perfect place to stay and visit these 2 establishments. At 10:45am we got a call from the front desk reminding us that checkout time was 11am. We were just about to leave the room and check out, but it seemed odd to get the call before check-out time -- as though they feared we wouldn't leave. Also, as we were packing up our car we were being stared at by a family, who we assumed to be the family that runs the place. Felt a little weird, but more odd than anything else. The family included children so certainly not anything threatening, just odd. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. We had a pleasant stay and a good night's sleep. Price was very good and location worked well for us.
