There are three airports in Fresno, serving millions of passengers to domestic and international destinations every year. Fresno Yosemite International Airport (formerly Fresno Air Terminal) is located at 5175 East Clinton Way, Fresno, CA 93727. It is situated about three miles from the city center and sixty miles south of Yosemite National Park (California State Route 41). The FYIA is the largest airport in Fresno and San Joaquin Valley. One of the oldest operational airports in California, Fresno Chandler Executive Airport, is located at 510 West Kearney Boulevard, Fresno, CA. The distance from the downtown Fresno is two miles west. Sierra Sky Park Airport, the historic home of the oldest aviation community in America, is situated seven miles northwest from the central city district of Fresno.
Numerous taxi companies offer the transportation services around the clock, typically within the range of $15 to $22. Airport shuttle vans and buses present a more cost-effective option, especially for larger groups of passengers traveling from or to the airport. With door-to-door service and shared costs, the airport shuttle transportation expenses can be considerably reduced, depending on the number of passengers. Also useful for larger families and groups are private-ride sedans, limos and vans. Costs vary, and the best price can be arranged over Orbitz.com or upon arrival.
Set in the semiarid climate of central California, Fresno bathes in pleasant sunshine for the most of the year, with mild, pleasantly warm autumns and springs. Summers are Californian classic; the hottest month is July with average temperatures of 96.6F. The city of Fresno also enjoys moderate winters, as the coldest month is December with averages of 53.4F. With the climate suitable for the year-round outdoor activities and wonderful parks in and around Fresno, you may forget your snow clothes altogether, but make sure to bring a sunscreen.
The city history remarkably spans over every layer of Americas past and present. Originally inhabited by the Yokuts, the area was the center of trade and manufacture from the earliest times. Fresno had begun to emerge in its modern-day form as the result of the two groundbreaking events in nineteenth-century America: the California Gold Rush and the Central Pacific Railroad. The fifth-largest city in the Golden State, Fresno is home of the best-preserved, authentic architectural monuments in California, as well as the nearest place to some of the Americas world-renowned national parks and natural habitats.
Visit Orbitz.com and start your trip. Check accommodation in accordance with your schedule. Find the cost-effective flights to Fresno, and get ready to enjoy modern-day rediscovery of the classical Americana.
Summer is peak season, drawing most of Yosemite’s four million annual visitors. Reservations at many of the campgrounds and hotels, particularly Yosemite Lodge and the Ahwahnee, should be made months in advance. The valley is only one part of Yosemite National Park, so escape summer crowds with day hikes in the breathtaking High Country at Tuolumne Meadows, about an hour’s drive from the valley floor. July is the peak of wildflower season.
Every season at Yosemite has something in its favor. In winter, there’s the quiet beauty of meadows and towering mountain peaks covered in snow. Spring (May and June) brings the roar of waterfalls at their fullest cascading over the valley rim and the dogwoods in bloom. Summer offers long, warm days for dips in the Merced River. In the fall, waterfalls may dwindle to only a trickle, but maples and oaks turn to red and gold.
Parts of the park, such as Tuolumne Meadows and the Glacier Point lookout area, are closed in winter because of heavy snowfall. Yosemite Valley and Wawona remain accessible year round, however, tire chains may be required, depending on weather conditions. In winter, the Badger Pass ski area is open for downhill skiing and cross-country skiing excursions.
