Hotel is in good location. Comfortable room. Breakfast OK-- very basic, not gourmet. wifi was down one evening but when it worked it was fine. Clean room, good service by chambermaids. AC not the coolest but enough to survive in summer heat.

We needed a place close to the airport to catch an early morning flight. The hotel is placed midway between the city center and BLQ. Driving to either is straightforward. The hotel is modern and clean. The only odd thing was the placement of the bathroom door. It faces the bed and is translucent ...

The prices for the hotel were very reasonable and we ended up staying 3 nights rather than 1. The location is just about as good as it gets, right in the center of the main shopping street in a nice square and close to all major attractions. Overall the hotel is charming although it's clear that it hasn't been renovated in a while. Still, for the price I will NOT complain. The bed was comfortable but there was a strange lack of a blanket. The bathroom shower would have been more convenient for an American with a full shower door BUT the pressure was excellent and made up for that small point and the towels were large and fluffy. Climate control was efficient and easy to use. Breakfast was pretty good and included in the price. INTERNET, unfortunately, didn't work well in our room but we used it downstairs while having tea and we enjoyed that.
THis man was EXTREMELY Unhelpful , uninterested, & downright rude ! Upon arrival asked for help regarding rental car return to Bologna Airport & transportation back to hotel as our cell phone usage was restricted due to International roaming charges courtesy of AT&T. When we informed him we could not call hotel to request shuttle pickup back to hotel he shrugged his shoulders & offered no assistance or solution to help us. At this point already tired & frustrated asked to speak to manager named Rachel as any further communication with this man was futile. Eventually learned info desk at airport would provide us with phone access in order to return to hotel.
This was our first visit to Bologna so we were unsure of where to stay. Based on reviews we booked the Al Cappello Rosso. On arriving we were so happily surprised. Pulling up to the hotel we were unsure what we were walking into as no clues as the entry was a bit generic. But once inside we were met by a friendly front desk staff who quickly settled us in. From the lobby decor we picked up on the "cool" vibe of the hotel -- focussing on books and culture. Our room was awesome! We were in the JFK room...which was shockingly decorated all red, white and blue with JFK images, stars, etc. We quickly grew to love it as so unique and unexpected. It was like we were living in an art exhibit. Our room also had a tiny balcony that barely fit 2 people...but was lovely for fresh air and did have a tiny table and 2 chairs. The large bed was comfortable and the room spacious for two people. Our room also had a large bathroom with tub that was perfect for relaxing after we spent the day wandering Bologna. Location was also perfect. The hotel was one block off of the major historic square, so it was so nice to just walk out of the hotel to sit down for a cafe and crowd watching. Also, the staff was amazing....even sharing extra chocolates with us as we checked out and my husband complemented the special evening chocolates. The staff shared the story of how they were a local specialty...and they didn't want us to miss out on a few extra. A great experience all around!
It was a little out of the way, but easy to get to the airport. The restaurant was also not too bad.
