This was our 2nd stay at the Royal Carlton Hotel in Bologna. It is clean, comfortable and conveniently located near the city center and rail station. The breakfast buffet is amazing and offers everything you could want. The staff is friendly and helpful and we hope that we can return again before too long.
Aside from being centrally located from the train station and main shopping and site-seeing areas, this hotel is very outdated. From the lobby to the hotel room, everything was very circa 1980 with plush dark blue and red velvet furniture and dark woods to an explosion of peach, pink, and beige in the bedroom suite. To make matters worse, their internet system (when available) alerted my computer as being a highly rated virus carrier. Um, what? So, if you want to take a step back in time and play cards in the lobby with your great grandmother, that's great. If you need to have computer access, have a knowledgeable staff of the surrounding city (which they were not), and not have imperial attitude from the lobby staff (seriously, you open doors for a living), choose another hotel.
The hotel is well situated in the city centre area being 10 minutes walk from the very centre. This hotel must be near 5 stars for its service and facilities which were of very good quality. We did not eat in the restaurant but those who did thought it expensive for what they had. The public areas were very comfortable. Our room had a balcony that had no furniture. The bedrooms had high quality furnishings.
I stayed at the Royal Carlton for business and was very pleased that this was the hotel of choice. Walking into the hotel is like stepping back in time with the decor, furniture and lighting. I found it lovely but it isnt to everyone's taste. The room was very clean and spacious with plenty of room for my things, a desk that I could work at and a decent sized balcony that faced over the pool. My only criticism of the room was that it was a little warm in there and I couldnt seem to cool it down! The minibar auto charges you when you select items which is handy when it comes to remembering what you had and makes the check out process much smoother. The breakfast was very good with a large selection and something for everyone. There is a large dining room and there were plenty of tables when I went down to eat. It is in a great location and very, very clean. I would definitely stay here again if in Bologna.
We had the pleasure of staying at the very centrally located just a few minute walk from the train station. The hotel is very comfortable and has a great staff. It has a resort feel in the middle of the city. The fitness area is huge for a city hotel with all the latest modern equipment. We made a great decision to utilize the spa which was managed very well as they limit how many people can be there at one time. The music in the spa was relaxing without being loud. They were playing one of my favorite cd's which w as the music of Michael franks which I just briefly mentioned to Anna lisa the manager of the spa. The next day arrived the same cd in my room that Anna lisa bought for me! This was such a beautiful and thoughtful surprise!! The room was extremely comfortable with a spacious bathroom for two people. Would definitely stay there again when I next go back to bologna! well run and very good breakfast. Recommended! ive stayed here 3 times now, the hotel is a little dated in its decor but in my opinion it is still quite spectacular. The lobby and bar is all mahogany and huge chandeliers but it is a nice place to begin and end your night out.The beds/ pillows were very comfy and had no trouble sleeping.Breakfast is fantastic with much to choose from.wi-if was good.It is a great central location for the bars and restaurants. My stays have all been business related but I would gladly stay here with my wife.
Having wanted to visit Bologna for some time.we booked this hotel for our visit. We were not disappointed. The hotel is so relaxing, traditional, friendly and welcoming. We were upgraded on arrival and decided to eat in the restaurant on our first night. The food was excellent with complimentary bread, water and appetisers. The lady that served us was extremely pleasant and helpful. The breakfasts offer lots of choice and cater for everyone. Contrary to previous reviews we have found no problem with internet. Great stay
The Hotel is much nicer inside than out. It is dated but still gives a luxurious feel. The reception staff upon arrival were polite and efficient. The lady who checked us out lacked any form of pleasant interaction. She did her job efficiently enough, but no smile, no asking if we enjoyed our stay and most of all NO SMILE. We received more thanks from staff in caffes where we spent €10. On the other hand all the staff in the spa were excellent. Especially Chiara and Giovanna. The lady in charge was charming too. So much so that we had 2 massages each on a two day visit. It is a shame that these guys are downstairs where nobody sees them. They truly understand hospitality and how to pamper guests. Well done
I was very much looking forward to my one night at the Royal Carlton - it wasn't what I expected. The good part is: they let me check out later, which was great help, and - after insisting, though - they got me information about transportation to Venice airport. Also plus points are breakfast and the lobby which has a Dynasty flair of good old eighties times. BUT - service is not always nice, upon arrival I was treated rudely, wasn't even given basic info like a map and such and when I asked for map and further info I was not immediately answered positively and politely as expected in a place like this. Moreover, the room was OK - plus point is size and terrace - but old-fashioned, not in a good way, also not in top state (bath mainly, and the time it takes to fill it, due to low stream water...annoying) SPA is not included, which is a pity - would have helped. All in all - not worth the price, I'd say, and much over: I lost my faith in the label Carlton as a stance for quality without compromise
Spacious, stylish rooms, a good breakfast, attentive staff and a great gym to work out - we really enjoyed our stay in the Royal Carlton. A plus is also the location: Situated just at the border of the old town and right around the corner of Via dell'Indipendenza, all the sights and restaurants can be easily reached. However, it is quiet in the night.
