The hotel is super-convenient for the train station. A great welcome from the reception staff who were very efficient and helpful. The room was clean and quiet. Staff in the restaurant lacked energy and seemed to resent customers. I witnessed staff being quite rude to another customer who asked for their bill to be processed again so that it would be split between two rooms. This resulted in an argument in front of customers and was embarrassing. This is a shame, as other staff in the hotel were very professional.
I have been staying at the Starhotel Excelsior in Bologna and the truth is that I was impressed how they manage their services ... for example, you have to pay to have access to the Wifi (the free does not work). I contracted this service because I had to work in my room and when I had to charge my computer I realized that they have a very particular plug incompatible with my charger. which was my surprise when in reception I was informed that I had to pay € 10 for the adapter !!!! this is the "RAYNAIR" of the hotels. On everything they try to take advantage of. Beside of this, the hotel is very well located and the and the employees are very friendly
We visited Bologna for two days and stayed in this perfectly located hotel. It's directly opposite the central train station, 2 minute walk to the main bus depot and a 5 minute walk to the historical city centre. The rooms are huge, modern and clean. The bathroom is massive! It has a bath and shower, bidet and toilet, huge bench space and soft white towels. The bed is king size and extremely comfortable as are the pillows. The staff are attentive and polite. I recommend this hotel with confidence!
Location The hotel is right by the main railway station making it an ideal base. The Airport bus stops outside and there is a very good taxi rank. In the area there are bars and restaurants. The main square, Piazza Maggiore is about 1 km away, with lots of bars, shops etc. on the way. Room We were on the 6th floor which meant taking the elevator. One thing I have noticed is that many hotels only have one small elevator and time is wasted waiting for a vacant elevator. This hotel has 3 and we never waited more than a few seconds. Our room overlooked the station, so my first concern was road noise. However the room was quiet as it had a double glazed window, a gap and then another double gazed window. The room was a good size and extremely comfortable. A small touch was that the person servicing the room left a sweet (or Candy if you are not English) in our room. Room was cleaned everyday and there was always a fresh supply of toiletries. Breakfast This was usual buffet style with lots of choice of hot and cold food including cheese, ham, fresh fruit, bread and cakes. It seems to be the Italian way to have cake for breakfast. Overall This is a good hotel in good location and I would certainly recommend.
If you are looking for a hotel to stay at in Bologna then look no further. This is a nice comfortable hotel in a great location - directly opposite the Central Station. And getting here from the airport couldn't be easier as there is a direct bus service which runs every 15 mins or so, takes about 20 minutes and is only €6 for a single ticket! I had a twin bedded room on the 7th (top) floor. Even though it faced the station and overlooked the busy road below the excellent double/triple glazing meant there was no noise, so I enjoyed a great nights sleep in a very comfortable bed. I didn't eat in the hotel as there were a number of good quality restaurants within a short walking distance. I did visit the bar though and thought the prices for drinks were reasonable. All the staff I encountered were polite, courteous and gave great service. Overall excellent value for money and I would definitely stay there again. This was my second experience of the Starhotels brand, having stayed at one in Milan earlier on the year, and I've been very impressed on both occasions.
We stayed for 3 nights and were extremely comfortable. We got a free upgrade on arrival which meant we had a huge room with 2 armchairs and a good sized desk. The bathroom was also very big with his n hers sinks and a good sized bath with over head shower. Good selection of meats, juices, cakes and pastries for breakfast and the breakfast room is spacious and bright - there's also outside seating. Location is amazing- directly opposite the train station and airport bus pick up point. The City Red Bus tour also starts about 100m up the street. City centre is only about 10mins walk. We stayed in room 422 at the front of the hotel. To block out all road noise there were 2 windows one behind the other(you opened one window and then a second window- see picture). I'd not seen this before but it definitely works. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it
This is a modern hotel next to the train station centrale. It's nothing to look at but it has a modern feel in the common area's and is very clean with good service. We had a junior suite on the 1st floor but it felt a bit dated to us and the air conditioning was too noisy to leave on all night. No road noise or external noise.
Our reservation online with the hotel didn't go well. We never got our confirmation and when we arrived at the hotel, they didn't have any record. Fortunately, they had rooms available and at the same rate quoted online, so no harm done. The front desk staff was very helpful, professional, and courteous. The room was modern, spacious by European standards, and had two windows. Very reasonably priced which included a great breakfast. Directly across from the station, it is very convenient for travel in and out of Bologna.
We had an excellent stay here. The staff were very accommodating and helpful. Location is excellent right across the train station. It's a 15 min walk to the piazza where the twin towers were. Lots of good restaurants around it. Rooms were very very clean. Couldn't fault it. A/C was okay but not as cold as it could be for a hot summer day. Will stay here again on our next return.
The only thing separating this hotel from a five star experience is the food in my opinion. Breakfast buffet was a bit on the "easy" side and the food in the hotel restaurant is catered for by the Eataly chain. It's not bad, but a hotel this good should have it's proper chef and cuisine. Otherwise I could not fault it: good location, parking facilities, very clean and ample room, friendly staff,... Would definitely book here again.
