Starhotels Excelsior

We were upgraded and had a junior suite for two days, but this hotel still has some flaws. WiFi is not free as advertised. 500mb limit or day at 1mbit/s is not free, that’s a trial. Bed was rock hard. Breakfast was ok apart from tasteless coffe and stale bread. Hotel restaurant was a pleasant and impressive surprise with good local pasta and Quayle

Welcoming hotel literally in front of Bologna’s train station. The room was OK in size, but extremely quiet, cozy and clean. The staff was friendly and polite. The breakfast buffet had a lot of options (both salty and sweet), but a bit slow on taking coffee orders. We also tried the restaurant for dinner and we enjoyed the gourmet experience. The only thing I would recommend to this hotel is to equip rooms with electrical plugs near the nightstands. In any case, I will be coming back here when I’ll be in Bologna.

We had booked a double room through a travel agent who mistakenly booked for only 1. The hotel charged an extra 20 Euros/night for the second person. We didn’t have breakfast included so not sure what the extra cost was for as we did not need an extra bed. Off to a bad (and rude) start. The service was lacking the whole stay, no greetings anytime we walked past reception. The location was not great - handy only to be across from the station. If you can, it is much trendier and safer to stay in closer to the centre. The rooms however were very clean, just slightly dated, and the cleaner did a great job each day. Also the aircon does not work well. Wouldn’t stay again.

The hotel is what it promises: a 4-star-hotel. In fact, There´se no courtesy in there as we should expect for this hotel standard. People at the reception are really rude. The breakfast is featured by Eatally, so we eated very well there. Only the table service was good. Other representatives were rude.

This hotel is excellently located near Bologna station. We had already stayed 3 years ago. It is very clean and the rooms are very welcoming and comfy. The breakfast is good too. Would gladly return any time.

A little removed from the central area but it is walkable and close to the train station, which is great if you have luggage. Great service, clean and updated rooms - which I imagine are hard to find if you go closer to the center of town (older part of town).

Classic but new and comfortable. Spacey rooms and clean. Very friendly and efficient front desk staff. Good location 10mnts walk to centre and opposite C.S. Good breakfast. Only minus is breakfast service staff. Unfriendly and not motivated. Would book again.

The hotel location was straight opposite the train station and airport bus, the hotel is in a good location, around a 25 minute walk to the city centre. Upon arrival we were given a free room up grade, which was nice, the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, with plenty of variety. The hotel is nice and quiet couldn't hear any traffic noise

Location is great from the train station. Upon arriving they offered an "upgraded" room with breakfast. The upgraded room was a garret - ten foot wall on one side with a slanted ceiling to a six foot wall on the other side. Logging into WiFi required help from a young man - not the desk. In our extended journey, this was one of the few places which didn't have electrical plugs available on the right side of the bed. Had to have an extension cord across the room. Also one light switch shuts off all plugs - including the one the CPAP is hooked into. Tough to breath. Solved this by leaving the switch/lights on and taking out the light bulbs. Never had to do that before in a hotel. Breakfast was acceptable, but nothing to write home about. If in Bologna again I might try some other place.

Front desk staff was friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was nothing special. Service was inconsistent. Offered coffee both mornings but the waitress the second morning followed up and asked if we wanted more. Lots of croissants, some fresh fruit, cereals, average cold cuts, yogurt.... air conditioning was very weak. Fortunately it was only in the 70’s while we were there. Be careful with the shower because the floor can get very wet
