Glamurous hotel in the center of Carcassonne. The room was a bit worn out, but very comfortable, with a nice coffee machine and TV. They have a nice (but small) indoor pool that is a plus. We had mixed experiences with the staff: our check-in staff was a very nice gentleman who welcomed us with a big smile and provided us with lots of information about town. On the other hand, we had a reception lady who asked us several times if we were guests to the hotel when we asked her for restaurant recommendations - it seemed she did not think we fit the hotel (we are a young couple). Despite of that, we would certainly recommend this hotel.
Usually wouldn't leave negative reviews but I unfortunately had a pretty terrible experience at Hotel Soleil Terminus. Great location, you're two minutes away from the train station. Carcassonne is an amazing place. The hotel however isn't as great... The woman taking orders in the restaurant was rude, abrupt and very disrespectful. This attitude was justified due to a language barrier even though we spoke French to her, no other compensation or apology was offered. This resulted in my partner being reduced to tears. Really unfortunate. They don't cater for any dietary requirements either. No gluten free/vegan options. Lastly, we both woke up covered in flee bites. The flees must have got the cold shoulder from the restaurant and came up to us instead.. Needless to say, our stay put a dampener on what was a great time in France. Sorry Hotel Soleil Terminus :(
Stayed overnight in the Hotel de Terminus, a splendidly archaic building still redolent of the early 20th century. Reception was pleasant and helpful and the rooms large, airy and comfortable. Breakfast was a bit of a disappointment being a self-service cattle market with several shortages in various areas, due, I think, by the lack of staff on duty at this time. Still, recommended and would happily go back again.
Overnight stay. The first room I had was problematic. There was a really bad smell from the bathroom and there was a mosquito in the room (which I would never exoect in a hotel of this price). I complained about the horrible smell and they moved me to another room and this was perfect and more like the kind of experience that I was expecting. The hotel is faded a bit, however it has beautiful character. The main reception area has a grand staircase and chandeliers. Breakfast is hot and cold buffett. Hotel is right across the road from train station. Was very quiet in rooms, no noise.would stay hete again.
You can see that this was once a Grand Hotel, with Ballroom and all. It is close by to the minitrain that rolls up to the Castle. Next it is a Great Bistro with good Food (poached Salmon, steak frites) and swell Wine from the Region..Carcassonne is lovely. Even the Police were super nice and they helped us find our Hotel.
Stayed 2 nights in this grand old hotel with my husband. Gorgeous old hotel with glimpses of a glorious past. The holel is centrally located near the station with warm and friendly staff and a great buffet breakfast. The lovely indoor pool and sauna are bonuses. We enjoyed our stay here immensely. Great atmosphere.
The best thing is its location. The building is old but you can sense the greatness of the old days. Nevertheless, our room did not lack anything and was beautiful. You also have to know that they have an indoor swimming pool, so take your bikini with you, just in case! There's a cafeteria and restaurant at the corner, what makes the area quite lively. would choose it again.
A year later I find myself talking about this place. Most of it hasn't been touched in a century, it's former glory intimately present. Neither the slow and unfriendly woman at the check-in nor the worn wallpaper in the room could bring the wonderful experience of suggeative decadence down a bit.
The entrance lobby is very good, like an old movie. You may feel going sight seeing just stay in the hotel. The staff in the reception is very kind. The room is also old styled; the bath room should be more modern style.
We booked this hotel for 2 nights while we visited Carcassonne, before taking the train to Barcelona. This is one hotel in serious need of refurbishment. 4-star I don't think so...!! 2-star if you're lucky. The a/c, which looked to pre-date the invention of a/c, didn't work and the room was so hot we nearly died. The mattress must have been a hand-me-down from the local prison. It sagged so badly in the middle and was so thin and lumpy we'd have been better off sleeping on a towel on the floor! The only plus was it was right next to the station but not so close to the citadel. I couldn't recommend it and would never stay there again until they invest in a bull-dozer.
