We were currently in a sticky situation. Out flight was cancelled as we were trying to leave Cancun. It was late and the airport was closing so we had to hurry and find a hotel if not we were gonna be left stranded. If you ever find yourself in this situation, DO NOT go to the people outside of the airport as they will scam you. There are designated gentlemen in green vests that will help you inside the airport. Anyway, we didn’t know any better and we’re charged $68 per taxi (we had to take 2) to downtown Cancun where we were promised a cheap hotel room. A normal taxi ride for that distance is usually about $28 dollars but We decided to do that and ended up at this hotel. The woman working there was very helpful and so was the man. It’s definitely not a luxury hotel but we only needed to stay a night and didn’t have much of a choice. It’s okay but we were definitely overcharged because of the scammer outside of the hotel. This hotel is about $68/night and we were charged double that. The beds are hard, walls are thin, and it’s in a sketchy part of town. Just be careful when in Mexico and be prepared for a situation like this.
I have never stayed at a hostel before as I am 62 years old. But the experience that I had at Ikaro Beds was great. It was right downtown Cancun near plenty of restaurants, local transportation, and local shopping. The beds were great, comfortable and seem new. The showers are hot and strong. The staff, especially the manager, Aida, were friendly and accommodated everything to make me feel comfortable. Yes, the top of the walls do not reach the ceiling, but was not an issue with me as I slept right through the night. You might get your occasional noise ob people checking in late, but other than that, I had no problems. I can honestly say that my review is quite accurate as I stayed there almost two months.
This is a hotel who has a small extra building for dormitories. I stayed in the hostel part. There are 4 dorms. 2 showers and about 5 toilets per gender. The walls in the dorms and hall don't go all the way to the ceiling which means you can hear everything in all of the dorms and when there's light on in one of them there's basically light on in all of them. AC is only in the hall and not the rooms, which means the dorms might not be stifling hot but they were still so warm that I had trouble sleeping. There were only 3 sockets and all of those far from the beds. There are lockers in the rooms and you get a towel when you ask for it. My dorm was facing the street with a light from outside directly shining in, so the room was never dark. The dorm was clean enough but the showers were filthy. Flip flops a must. There's no kitchen, no common area or a hostel atmosphere. This is not a place where you meet people or want to hang out at and relax. The only bright spot is the staff. They were absolutely lovely and really helpful. Wouldn't stay there again.
All beds are new, with clean sheets and clean washrooms, you can use a good pool what is difficult to find in a hostel, the staff is friendly and it is located near everything with a lovely cafeteria just cross the street, without a doubt you obtain much more than you pay, we are planning a longer stay in the future.
