The lobby is beautiful, and the restaurant on the main floor is also stunning. When you step into the elevators, that’s when things start to go downhill. You can tell the property stopped the renovations on floor 1. The rooms are fine, carpets need to be replaced. Housekeeping staff don’t really freshen up the rooms. Front desk staff was great. Hot tub also needs a renovation. Will probably never go back. It’s a shame really, it has potential and is in a great location.

The best about the Elk is the location. But our room left a lot to be desired. Running toilet, no hot water and an air conditioner/heater that whistled all night long. The staff were helpful and even offered a discount, which we weren’t looking for, so we appreciated the gesture. But not the elegance we thought we would get with this property. We also had dinner at Farm and Fire. The food was fabulous but the service was the worst we’ve seen. Wrong plates and not one bit of urgency to fix, never checked on us or poured wine, the main course showed up with starter plates still on the tiny table and no one around to pick them up or give us new plates and cutlery for our sharing meal. And a very nice but really terrible server. We wondered if it was his first day because he just got so much wrong. If it wasn’t for the food itself, we would have walked out.

Really enjoyed this hotel, the restaurant was absolutely amazing with great staff. Room was clean and beds comfortable, a very nice lobby with multiple areas to sit and relax, in the heart of Banff. Highly recommend and would come back for sure.
