After an awful 11 hour flight with Air New Zealand we weren’t in the mood for anything else but sleep. The Ibis delivered with a comfortable bed and a relaxing pleasant sleep. The lovely lady on reception let us keep the room till 11am due to our 1am late arrival. Just as well as we slept solidly till 10.30am! Great shower and fluffy towels meant we were refreshed in the morning. Room for improvement - no tea/coffee facilities in room and breakfast and lunch as decidedly average. Would definitely stay again.
This is the most expensive 3-star hotel ive ever checked in and i am thankful that my company has to pay for it and not me. I said that in consideration of the room, the food is standard. Up to this day i still dont understand why its expensive when its 3-star and its not central. To be fair i havent looked up just yet. Maybe because its near the corporate offices.
I stayed here due to my usual hotel being fully booked. On reflection I should have gone somewhere else. The room was tiny (despite being impeccably clean) and the bathroom was in need of some attention with some fittings in need of replacement The general demeanor of the staff was excellent and the service was professional and as you would expect in such an up market hotel. The range of breakfast fare is mind bending and the quality is great, all in all though a little overpriced given the room size etc.
I recently attended a 2 day management training course at this venue. The facilities were good and the parking situation easy and economical. What compelled me to leave a review was the food. We had a buffet lunch both days in the restaurant. I didn't have high expectations but was suitably impressed. They've clearly got some talented chefs in the kitchen here. Excellent variety, extremely tasty, healthy, well presented. I reside in Wynyard quarter with excellent restaurants on my doorstep, but I'd consider coming back here for lunch it was that good. All our group of 20 raved about it.
Close to Ellerslie racecourse, the reason for our visit. Reception desk very welcoming. Rooms clean and comfortable for our overnight stay. Dining has stepped up a notch since our last visit and we were pleasantly surprised. Will continue to use these facilities on other occasions. Only drawback is the car park spaces are very narrow and limited.
Nice place, great bang for the buck. Reception is shared with the Novotel which you just access by going up a different elevator. The rest of the amenities are shared by both hotels which makes it an upgrade for Ibis customers. Location served our needs, easy access to downtown without paying downtown prices. The room was exactly what you expect at get at any Ibis around the world. Its not large, it has a desk, a tv, very small closet for some clothes, a bed, two nightstands. The bathroom was funny but useful in this room. Felt like I was on a boat, I think the entire bathroom was ordered out of a catalog, was all one curved unit, but, it worked just fine. Wifi free if you're an accor rewards member, which is free. Breakfast buffet was included for a $1 a person with a summer promotion. I would not have paid anymore then that. Food was cold, selection not very good. A ton of juice options, none that I liked. The coffee machine was broken. The watermelon was the most pathetic attempt at watermelon I've eaten. I filled up on bread and local cheeses. Parking. There are just no convenient alternatives to paying for the hotel parking. You have to enter a gate and take a ticket to even get to the lobby. They then give you a new ticket that gives you in and out access. There was no discount being offered for any level of Accor membership, or at least what we had. For Americans, just understand that this is listed as a 4 star hotel. There is no way that is accurate for what we are accustomed. This is a strong 2.5, maybe a 3 star, so don't expect more then that and you will be very happy with what you got.
As always the Ibis lived up to expectations. Staff very friendly. Lovely Dinner at Restaurant on Friday night. Room very comfortable. Check in and out was a breeze. Ideal location for us as it was mid way between places we had to go to.
Our flight into Auckland was delayed so we didn't have enough time to drive to Whangarei in daylight. Picked the Novotel/Ibis for our lay-over because of the location and facilities. Don't forget to get your parking ticket validated before you leave otherwise you can't raise the barrier to get out! Good basic room with a great king sized bed. However, internet is NZ$10 a day! Given a voucher for complimentary drinks - house beer, wine, etc., so had a drink in the bar before dinner. We both had big bowels of Green-lip Mussels with garlic bread - welcome to NZ! Complimentary breakfast which had all the normal goodies, plus Chinese congee, fried rice, and dumplings - excellent! Staff were all friendly and helpful. Good lay-over hotel - recommended.
Ibis Ellerslie is exact to the concept... all the things you want i.e. clean, quiet and comfortable and none of the things you don't need i.e. no mini bar etc. The bar downstairs was great, location convenient and overall recommended for those who want a good night's sleep without paying five star prices.
