would be a much better hotel if there was air-conditioning. THERE IS NO AIR CONDITIONING!! close to the central station. Close to the red light district. Close to the Central Square. Close to the AnnFrank house
Stayed here last week, room was nice and bathroom. Whole place was clean. Breakfast was nothing special, some toast, bit of hot/cold scrambled egg, selection of jam, mini muffins and have to pay extra for hot drinks. I feel the room was a bit pricey for what we got, quite small, wasn’t much to offer really. Scaffolding around kind of ruined the place and could’ve knocked some price for that or even warned us at least
I stayed at Hotel Citadel from April 4 - 13th, 2018 and my stay was average. The staff were tremendous, they are friendly, informative and helpful. The beds where just foam on top of a pad - they were uncomfortable and so small that my sister and I almost fell out a few times. The room was small. The breakfast was great - my overall experience of the hotel went down hill as the last two days of my stay the hotel lift did not work and during the entire stay construction work was going on, and you could hear constant banging. Probably would not stay there again, as the room was very expensive, but definetly did not get value for money.
This is a good central place to stay. Although the rooms are small the bed is comfy and the rooms quiet. The breakfast is okay but nothing special, it does the job. There are plenty of places to eat in the evening nearby, it's close to the train station and there is a tram stop near by as well. I would stay here again. Only thing I didn't like was having to use my Facebook account to pick up the wifi. We were told you could use your e-mail address which would have been my preferred option to do so but when I tried to do this it was not offered as an option so I had no option but to use my Facebook account which I did not want to do. It also meant my husband could not get wifi as he does not have a Facebook account.
The hotel is in a great location, 5 minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal station and close to the busy centre with bars, restaurants, clubs and attractions. The hotel lobby is small with a small but comfortable restaurant area where only breakfast is served (self service, mostly continental with some hot food). The desk staff were very friendly and helpful and they have a locked room to store bags etc. Check in was 2pm and I could not check in to my room before that time. The room was small (I had ordered a single room) but pleasant with a coffee machine and tablet device that I could use to watch Netflix, or play games. WIFI was available in the room. The room was a little cold though, and the radiator wasn't producing much heat. Also, the waste pipe for the sink in the bathroom (wet room) had come loose so water poured out onto my feet but that was easily fixed. My main issue was the noise in the morning, it seemed that around 5:30am there was a lot of movement in the corridor outside my room (both mornings) and on the floor below, perhaps preparing for breakfast, and I heard everything. Normally I am a heavy sleeper but this always wakened me. All in all, very friendly staff, great location, decent breakfast, noisy in the morning and quite expensive (you pay for the location but there are many other hotels in the vacinity) but I don't think I would stay here again.
When I stayed at Hotel Citadel last weekend the receptionist noticed that I had made a mistake with my booking. She went out of her way to tell me and she went out of her way to fix my mistake. If she had not done that my whole trip could have been ruined and it would have been all my own fault . So a huge thank you to IZABELA she is a credit to Hotel Citadel -, good staff make all the difference guys so hang onto this diamond ! And thank you to the manager Ralph for allowing Izabela to switch the rooms. If you want a great hotel..... choose Citadel
Excellent location. Tram stop outside good breakfast nice modern rooms plenty of good restaurants and bars nearby no lift so ask for lower floor rooms free WiFi 15 min walk from central station and P&O drop off point
Spent 4 nights at the hotel. Great location. Tram right outside the front door makes it easy to get to/from Central Train Station and sites/museums. Easy walk to Anne Frank House and Dam Square. Breakfast was simple and excellent. Friendly and helpful front desk staff. Small but comfortable single room. Only complaint was street noise. It was unseasonably warm when I was there, so I needed to keep the window open at night. Faces onto major street with a lot of noise from trams, cars, scooters and people. Insist on a back room and you should be fine. Overall a nice place to stay.
I stayed in Hotel Citadel with my partner on 23/02/2018 - 27/02/2018, when we arrived, we had arrived early and the receptionist said our room wasn't ready yet, but we were allowed to store our bags in the luggage room and then we went off to explore the city. We went back to the hotel just after 2pm and our room was ready, our room was a good size, it has a small bathroom but we were fine with this as you don't spend long in the bathroom and we basically had a walk in shower! :) In our room we had a large bed, a dressing table with a mirror, another mirror on the wall, a coffee machine & a kettle, a large wardrobe with a safe inside that was free to use and we also had Wi-Fi which was very good. There was a hairdryer in the bathroom and you are supplied with toiletries as well. Our room was cleaned daily and we had fresh towels daily as well and the soaps were topped up when required :) we met the housekeeping staff once and they seemed friendly. Breakfast - The breakfast was continental which is what we expected, we just wanted a quick breakfast then we headed off out for the day and night. There was a nice selection at breakfast, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, pastries, sausages & eggs. Also bread rolls and toppings like jam, chocolate spread, peanut butter, pate & chocolate sprinkles! There was Tea, Coffee & Hot Chocolate available too. The machine for hot drinks could be used all day and night. The breakfast area was cosy and stylish, music playing throughout the day and could probably fit about 35-40 people roughly, there also is a computer in the breakfast area. The reception staff were very polite and hard-working. We asked a member of staff at reception (I think her name was Isabelle/Isabella) if they would be able to print our boarding passes off for us, she informed us to send them to her via the hotels email address, we did this and later on another member of staff printed them off for us which was very helpful! If you need any help or advice the staff are happy to help. Check in and check out was easy. Yes, whilst we were there, renovations were going on, did it effect our city break? No, not at all. We were on the 2nd floor in Room 22, we weren't woken up early in the morning by drilling, if it was going on, we didn't hear a thing! Yes we heard it now and then during the day but they need to work at some point, so it wasn't an issue for us. I am giving Hotel Citadel 5 stars as we had no issues during our stay and yes we would stay here again!! Thank you Hotel Citadel :)
poor hotel experience, never informed us the lift was broke so we had to walk 3 flights of stairs.. draws were dirty in our room when we first arrived. wifi connection was not stable, the tv could not even connect to it. one of the plug sockets in room was broke. woken up to loud banging/drilling around 7am with the work going on right outside our room. so overall this was a very overpriced hotel, we will not be staying with you again or recommending to anyone!
