We were a party of 8 and stayed at the hotel for 2 nights in November 17. Location - perfect, it is on one of the tram lines from the station and walking distance to most areas and the main street. Food- breakfast was provided and was good with pastries cereal, scrambled eggs and sausages etc... A smaller range than you would get in a four star hotel but more than acceptable in range and volume and quality. The hotel does not provide lunch or dinner. Comfort – The dining area is comfortable for breakfast and catch ups with friends etc. Bedrooms- We had four rooms for our group and apart from the room my wife and I stayed in the rooms were spacious and comfortable with soft beds and decent shower cubicles etc. Room attendance was good and regular with friendly helpful staff. A word of warning however in regard to the room we stayed in and others like it. We stayed in room 71 and because it and all the similar rooms on each floor are adjacent to the exit from the lift the room is truncated to accommodate the passage from the lift to the other rooms. This results in a very cramped room and a more than very cramped bathroom. Not at all comfortable and definitely not suitable for a long stay. The other rooms our party had, as noted were spacious, comfortable and had decent sized bathrooms. My advice is to stay away from any of the rooms on each floor that end in a 1. In addition the other problem with these rooms and for that matter other low number rooms such as ?2 is that they are close to the lift well and it was very difficult to sleep in 71 due to the terrible racket that came from the motor room across the passage when the lift was used. So ask for rooms with higher numbers e.g. 74 or 66 etc. The other issue with the 7th floor is that while you don’t hear the traffic you do hear the rain etc as it is the top floor. Facilities – the hotel is not big and has a small lift. Reception and lift access is down a flight of steps. The hotel kindly allowed us to store our bags in a store room prior to check in to allow us to tour while we waited for our rooms. When checking out take your luggage by lift to the 1st floor not the ground floor and carry it down the stairs to the exit rather than up the stairs from the ground floor. Staff- The staff at reception and at breakfast was great. Friendly and helpful and made us very welcome, and provided detailed help in directing us to sights we wanted to visit. Top marks to them. Stay Again? – Yes I would definitely stay at the Citadel again but not in a room ?1

A bit in the exxy side but very close to the centre of town and canals. Reasonable breakfast and friendly staff. Rooms are small but comfortable. Some good views at front of building. Lots of fun close by to walk to.

This Hotel is situated on a busy street, but do not let that sway your decision. The Hotel is a small, but stylish place and its location within Amsterdam is fantastic. It is relatively nearby to the train station and near enough all of the amenities that the City has to offer. The Hotel has brilliant eateries to the left and to the right, and even across the road. To get into the more sought after areas of Amsterdam, it takes no longer than a few minutes walk. The breakfast that was provided was basic, but served its purpose well. Should I return to Dam, I will be considering staying at this Hotel once again.

We only spent one night in the hotel, but it was very convenient, and I enjoyed the boutique feel. It was comfortable and clean and had a pretty good included breakfast and that's all I ask for. The teeny elevator made me laugh so I repeatedly walked up six flights to my room (good exercise). Our room had a decent view of the city. Again - great location - close to many sights, restaurants, etc. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Definitely recommend.

Spent 3 days here, before a cycle trip. Loved the hotel and staff. Breakfast was simple and efficient. The room was clean and modern. The location was very convenient to the central station and tourist destinations. Definitely recommend staying her

great location. Close to Dam Square and the red light district, as well as other amenities. I walked to most areas from here. decent sized comfortable room - not huge or small. Front reception wasn't the best - Neglected to inform me that I had breakfast included or where it was available. Lift inside the hotel (bonus) as well as stairs.

Amazing location, just a 5 min walk from both Central Station and Dam Square. Despite being on the smaller side, the room was quite comfortable and clean. Friendly and helpful staff at the reception. Great breakfast, though the restaurant gets a bit crowded in the morning, so prepare to wait for a bit to get a table or for a refill of the hot items in the buffet.

Fantastic hotel. 5 min walk from Central Station. Breakfast is good. 5 min walk to Ann Frank house. Bars Cafes 2 mins walk away. Red light district 5 mins walk. Tran stop right outside the hotel. Loads of places to eat and drink. Hotel rooms are very clean (Just a bit if mold in the bathroom) nothing major. Staff are so helpful and friendly. They even have a secured room so you can leave your luggage after check out.

Hotel Citadel is typical of Amsterdam architectural style and wonderfully located about 5mins walk fro Dam square & shops, and 10mins walk (or 1 tram stop) from the main railway station, which was ideal as we took Eurostar to Brussels and changed to a direct train from there to Amsterdam. Like many Amsterdam old style buildings the hotel is not particularly wheelchair or pushchair friendly as reception is below ground level and accessed from the pavement down a small flight of stairs. Once inside there is a small lift which is operated in a contactless card mode by your room key ( the same method is also used to unlock your room). Breakfast is served in a room next to Reception and is a buffet style continental fayre (scrambled & boiled eggs were also available). It is served between 0700 & 1000hrs and there is a good choice of cereals, yoghurt, fresh fruit salad, cold meat, cheese, an amazing selection of fresh bread rolls and coffee & tea (from an easily operated vending type machine - tastes better than it sounds, honestly !). Our double room was on 5th floor facing onto the Main Street but traffic noise was never an issue, even when we had windows open. It was certainly big enough for us and housed a large double bed which ,due to extremely comfortable mattress and pillows (2 each ,although we found 1 each was perfectly adequate) , afforded a wonderful nights sleep , aided by efficient but stylish blackout curtains. The only small issue we had was that the small fan provided, in the absence of any air- conditioning, was not really up to the task of keeping the room cool - but as mentioned you can open the windows. As well as the bed there is a fair sized dressing table with drawers, 2 bedside tables, 2 chairs, a wardrobe incorporating the free safety deposit box, a flat screen TV, a kettle and a coffee maker ( we did run out of teabags but I am sure we could have asked for replenishments at Reception). The bathroom had a bath/ shower with complimentary toiletries, wash basin, cabinet & w.c. Towels were changed on request (daily if required). There was never a problem getting hot water at any time of day and the bathroom & bedroom were both spotless. Free Wifi was available ( no password required ) throughout the entire hotel and the staff were both helpful and efficient. They will help with bookings for attractions, restaurants & taxis etc. In my case ,as it was my partners birthday, they ordered some flowers I requested previously by E-mail and left them in our room. I have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending Hotel Citadel and know that when I next visit Amsterdam I will definitely stay there again.

We had a 3 bed room, 5th floor. It is small indeed but nothing new in Europe. But it was clean, a good bathroom working very well, daily cleaning and towel change. 5 minutes of Central plaza and for us a walking distance for main museums: Rijksmuseum, Rembrandt House, all city tours and so on. By the way, across the street 100m toward Dam Square it is a small restaurant green umbrellas named Great Burgers or something like this where you can eat an incredible good and big chicken salad for only 7.5Euros. I HIGHLY recommend it.
