Visit the Hospicio Cabanas, built in 1805 as a shelter; it houses 57 distinctive chapel murals painted by the renowned Jose Clemente Orozco. The Cathedral is one of the most famous of the landmarks in the city. Explore the Museo Regional de Guadalajara, with its collection relating to indigenous life, a natural history museum, ceramics from 600 B.C. and Colonial paintings. Experience the Tonala Street Market on Avenida Tonaltecas with its carnival feeling. Feel the music at the birthplace of Mariachi at Plaza de los Mariachis, south of Av Javier Mina.
When you fly from San Antonio to Guadalajara, you'll arrive at Don Miguel Hidal Y Costilla International Airport (GDL) and will be 12 miles from downtown. Shuttles and rental cars are available at the airport. The National Ceramics Fair and Fiesta takes place on the outskirts of Guadalajara, and travelers enjoy the Mariachi Festival, with its visiting bands, history and culture of mariachi. Fiestas de Octubre (October Festivals) is filled with fun and food.
