Manzanillo is the busiest port on the Pacific coast of Mexico. It offers an idyllic beach destination away from the mega-resorts. You can enjoy its beautiful beaches and outdoor activities at a much slower pace. Fly from Los Angeles to Manzanillo via Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in three and a half hours. Commute to LAX off Highway 1, or take a free shuttle to the airport from the Metro Green Line Aviation Station.
The city is known for its deep-sea fishing and is called the sailfish capital of the world. Some choose to go underwater and experience great diving in the bay. Those who stay ashore can choose between Playa Miramar and Playa La Audiencia. Both are excellent beaches for watching the green flash phenomenon at sunset. Barra Navidad is a small island in the bay where people go for lunch. Manzanillo has a clean little downtown area where one can spend an afternoon in shops or cafes.
When you fly from Los Angeles to Manzanillo, you ll land at the renovated Playa de Oro International Airport (ZLO), which is located north of town next to Highway 200. The taxi ride into town should take about 35 minutes. Cruise ships frequent the city in the winter when average temperatures are in the high 70s. Las Pasadas is celebrated during the last several weeks of the year. It features processions through the city to the Nativity as well as various parties around town.
