Bogota, Columbia, is the third-largest city in North America, and its nearly nine million citizens are well serviced with flights from Bogota leaving regularly from the El Dorado International Airport. The airport is easy to reach from most areas of the city, with a location that's just 9.3 miles west of the center of the city at Calle 26 and Avenida El Dorado. Daily flights provide international travel to cities such as Los Angeles, Havana, London, Frankfurt, San Juan and Paris, among other destinations. Some of the major airlines operating at the airport include JetBlue, United Airlines, Delta, Lufthansa, American Airlines and Air Canada, and you can reserve seats using Orbitz.com.
El Dorado offers both short-term and long-term parking options. Parking costs about $0.55 for 15 minutes in the Karib car park or about $0.50 for 15 minutes in the International car park for the first four hours, with the price set at $2 for 12 hours.
The easiest way to get to the airport from any point in Bogota is by city taxi. Taxis are safe modes of transport in Bogota and inexpensive, with the average fare from the city center costing about $13. City buses are available to reach the airport, as well. From the city center, a bus costs around $7. The trip by bus is approximately 40 minutes long, while taxi travel times are about 15 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. Though bus travel is fairly safe, it's recommended not to carry large amounts of cash, as the occasional robbery does occur. Many of the hotels in the area offer shuttle bus service to the airport for the convenience of their guests.
If there's time prior to catching your airplane, a good breakfast can be had at Tapas Macarena. The restaurant serves local cuisine and can provide you with a delicious meal to remember before leaving the city. Crepes and Waffles is a bit less costly and caters to large groups or families with children. The food is delicious breakfast fare with light airy crepes being one of the specialties of the house. For those in a hurry, there are a variety of restaurants available in the airport's main building where you can find a quick and filling breakfast while on the run to catch flights from Bogota to wherever your destination may be.
