The main airport in Guadalajara is the Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport. Located twenty miles southeast of Guadalajara, Hidalgo Airport features two terminals within walking distance of each other. Onsite parking is available near the airport hotel for a daily rate of 300 pesos (about $25 USD). There are long-term lots available near the airport, with most offering free shuttle service. Be sure to look for lots with twenty-four-hour security cameras. Authorized taxis and an airport minibus are also available for transportation.
Travelers from Guadalajara will fly into Rodriguez Airport, which parallels the USA-Mexican border line and is situated a few miles east of downtown Tijuana. Authorized cabs, sedans and vans are available for transportation, and tickets can be purchased at a booth at the airport exit. Public transportation is also available from the airport to downtown for less than $1 USD. Tijuana has a history of crime, violence, and drug activity, so it is advisable to travel in groups and be aware of your surroundings at all times. The climate is moderate with temperatures averaging 68°F in January and 86°F in August. Tijuana’s beaches are too foggy for boating or swimming, but several other beaches are located a short cab ride away. Bullfighting is a popular attraction in Tijuana in the summer, and downtown Tijuana features many stores for souvenir shopping.
