Room was perfect, as was the location especially being a three minute walk from the train station. Hotel bar is lovely, restaurant is so-so but there’s a few great dining options down the road, as well as a Lawsons. Would absolutely stay again.
The meals were excellent except for the dinner the second night. The foot bath bar was great! The room was very large. There were some issues with the in room tub. It turned off on its own, then I had staff fix it for me. However, the automatic setting was set to 40 degrees Celsius, which was way too hot. There was no explanation of how it worked. It ended up being difficult to use.
Very nice Ryokan situated in a beautiful part of Hakone. The area in general is hilly and difficult to get around but that’s true of anywhere in Hakone. This is located very close to Gora station which is as convenient as it gets whether you want to sightsee in Owakudani or head back towards Odawara station. The dinner and breakfast are very generous serving hearty regional cuisine. The amenities are top notch and exactly what you want for your Ryokan getaway.
Staying here was possibly the best part of our honeymoon. We had just hiked all of Mt. Fuji over 2 days, and took a cab directly from there to Tensui Saryo, where we were welcomed with a free glass of wine and a foot bath. Our room had a stone bath that would magically spill over the edges as you stepped in, and would automatically refill with hot spring water when you stepped out. Our aching muscles were grateful for the large bed and bathroom. Wearing our yukatas to the kaiseki dinner was icing on the cake. We will be back.
Beauace.. very clean and very very helpful people!! Free drinks and snacks are a bonus and the private hot baths were lovely!!
Highly recommend it.. they even served us lovely vegetarian breakfast!! 🙂
Great location - literally a few steps from Gora station and Hakone cable car (start point of the famous Hakone Loop.) services excellent. Onsen was not that impressive (compared with similar accommodations). Breakfast was quite monotonous - we stayed for three nights so breakfast #3 was identical to breakfast #1.
And right across the street from the best coffee shop - Coffee Camp!!
Great Japanese tradition ryokan with real hot spring water! It's a bit costly, but if you want full experience, then you should go for the dinner as well.
The staffs are amazing and tried their best to communicate. The room is excellent and enjoyed the open air bathtub with beautiful background of the mountain. I would definitely recommend this hotel and definitely would stay here again.
We had a great stay at Tensui Saryo during Hakone visit. It is very conveniently located near the train station from Hakone-Yumoto and the cable car that leads up to the Owakudani sulfur vents.
Our room was beautiful and the mountain view - though somewhat cloudy - was as well. The futons in our room were warm and soft but I did wake up a bit stiff (just gaijin issues). We had an outdoor hot spring-fed bath on the patio which was very luxurious. The sulfur is filtered out so the water doesn't smell at all.
The included breakfast was very good and the staff graciously accommodated my request for vegetarian food. It is an authentic Japanese style breakfast with many small dishes.
Given the price I do wish that dinner was also included. There are several restaurants nearby but strangely many were either closing when we got there or didn't open until later.
The staff were all very kind and helpful. Do note that though the reservation includes 1 free drink at the bar per person it only applies to the menu offered. It wasn't entirely clear so when we ordered cocktails we ended up paying extra. They do offer free snacks and drinks when you arrive, which is nice.
Overall a very relaxing and pleasant stay.
