The hotel was pricy but it’s worth it! Beautiful hotel, lovely views. The breakfast buffet was amazing. We had the Yunnesen access included and it was an amazing experience. We didn’t use the onsen but had a look and it was beautiful as well. Highly recommend!

We had an amazing stay at Hakone Hotel Kowaki-en. Since its recent renewal, the hotel feels incredibly modern, clean, and welcoming. ​The highlight was definitely the open-air hot spring on the top floor—soaking in the onsen while taking in the stunning mountain views was pure bliss. The buffet was another pleasant surprise; both breakfast and dinner offered a fantastic variety of fresh seafood, sashimi, and even free-flowing drinks. ​Location-wise, it’s highly convenient as the bus stop is right in front of the property. The staff were attentive, and the overall ambiance was peaceful. It's an excellent half-board choice for anyone looking to unwind in Hakone. Highly recommended!

The hotel is beautiful and tranquil. The onsen was very clean and extremely relaxing and rarely crowded. A bit of a language barrier with the staff and they are unable to accommodate luggage transfer which was disappointing.

We had an embarrassing experience of trying to check into the Ten Yu hotel, which is the higher ended hotel with the same name. I wish they would have acknowledged that it “happens all the time” but all we felt was embarrassing and shame. Once checked into the Kowakien Hotel, everything was fine. But the initial embarrassment never left us. We did enjoy the onsen and food, and the location was perfect. Just don’t make the mistake we did… but the hotel is wonderful.

A nice getaway into the mountains of Hakone. The private onsens were really nice and relaxing (about $15 USD for an hour), easy to book too. The massage services were wonderful as well. My wife and I got breakfast and dinner included in our stay as well which had a pretty good variety and quality to it. Convenient too since there are not really any restaurants nearby but you can get to one if you take the bus or walk for a bit. Great staff, clean facilities. The washer dryer situation was rough. Washed well enough but the drying part didn't work so well.
