This ryokan was so welcoming and nice. I stayed here with a group of 6 other friends, all from America. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the server we had for meals who spoke English quite well. The baths are all public, and stocked with all needed amenities. The open air baths are especially nice. I highly recommend this place. If we're ever in Hakone again, we will definitely stay here again!

The property is apparently over 100 years old and it shows. Everything feels rusty and moldy, and the air feels unhealthy to breath. I developed a stuffy, itchy nose during our stay which immediately cleared up after we left. When I used our private bath and looked up at the ceiling it was disgusting. The property is desperately in need of a refresh. The staff were friendly and the food was good, but otherwise I was happy our stay was only 1 night. There are much nicer (and more cost effective) places in the area. I felt ripped off for what we paid. The other reviews are not credible.

It was very unique and pleasant experience. Staff is welcoming. I loved open air bath experience. I don't think it's worth to have a private bath because the water was so hot I couldn't even use it.

Staff was accommodating, onsen was great though they failed to tell us that it was in a different part of building and outside in the garden. The indoor baths were gross and dire need of repair. The garden was unkempt and overgrown, buildings and overall property in absolute need of refurbishment. The front office was untidy and looked disorganized with papers and folders everywhere. The room and view we paid for was nice and quiet, it just didn’t match the level of cleanliness and experience you’d expect for the price we paid. One should not feel dirty after taking a bath! The property has so much potential, it just hasn’t been maintained for many years: dirty hall carpet, algae on walls and bath skylights, holes in screens (thus mosquitoes). Dirty exterior. It was disappointing because it has all the makings to be an exceptional property.

It was very unique and pleasant experience. Staff is welcoming. I loved open air bath experience. I don't think it's worth to have a private bath because the water was so hot I couldn't even use it.
