Only one elevator which was out of commission for part of a day although it was repaired. Had to borrow a swiffer from front desk to remove all of the spider webs. Had to kill numerous spiders. A/C unit condensate drained onto the balcony instead of being directed to a drain. Mattress was uncomfortable. Numerous stains and streaks on seemingly recently painted walls and ceiling (probably from others killing spiders.) Great location, great views, courteous staff. Great price. But could be so much nicer (maybe if it was privately owned?)

Great Staff

The air conditioner in our room leaked, and staff went out of their way to make us comfortable, including fixing the a/c, cleaning and drying carpet, and bringing in a staff member’s large personal air purifier as I have mold allergies. The hotel was sold out for the holiday weekend, or they would have given us another room. Also said they’d refund 1 night of our 5 night stay.

Could be a 5 star with a little extra effort

I had to wait an hour after 4 pm to check in because short staff issues. There were stains on the chair pillows and crumbs on the couch. The toilet paper holder was almost falling off the wall, and there were bugs in the room. Other than that, my stay was relaxed, I enjoyed the multiple spaces in the suite, I loved how big the mini fridge was and the big bathroom, the steak dinner from Nolan’s was delicious and the service was great, and I saw the most amazing sunset from my bedroom window. I do really enjoy staying at the hotel and I will be back. I think that small fixes in the rooms, and a little more detail to cleaning would make it a better experience.

Great for families, maybe not for couple?

If you have young kids that want to spend all day at the beach, this would be amazing for you. Not very crowded, and you cannot find a beach front hotel at this price anywhere that I am aware of. However, as it was a couple's weekend, we are used to having a bit more small town charm around beach hotels, and this did not. It was OK, nothing wrong so much as just not really an appealing surrounding area, which is not the hotel's fault, but still just left feeling like "eh". Staff was very nice, and a cute (very little) gift shop. One very cool thing, though, was that on the 4th of July, on the beach, we were able to see fireworks from several small cities on all sides.

It was lovely to have a hotel stay that is friendly for kids right on the beach of Lake Michigan. Illinois beach hotel is a historic building that is well kept up and the rooms were comfortable and very clean. I was impressed with the nice mattresses, clean sheets and soft towels. The view from our balcony was beautiful and made for a memorable stay. The restaurant had a menu with a good variety (invluding vegetarian and GF options) and everything was well made and fresh (not frozen). The wait staff at Nolan's were hustling to serve us at every meal and made for a nice experience.

Unique hotel with excellent location and sandy beach access that is somewhat separate from the public area. Nice trail system but bring some Deet spray for no problems. The place is being renovated with some construction here and there but the room was clean with nice furnishings, with a spacious lobby and a large room for events. Balconies and exterior could use some attention but we enjoyed the hotel thoroughly and we will return. The excellent staff were very helpful and all were patient and engaging. Some small fixes and easily a 5 star stay.
