West Plaza Hotel4.0 out of 5.0

Arrived on a Monday afternoon an was a bit dismayed to find that the (small) heater in the room hadn't been on and the windows, which are single glazed and don't fit their frames, had been open, so the room was freezing. Plus the corridor outside was just painted breeze block. That aside, however, the room was clean, the queen bed was comfortable, the food was good and the staff were helpful. And it soon warmed up, and I like a hotel with its own laundry facilities (I travel light). Plus it's within a stone's throw of Te Papa, Cuba Street and the waterfront. So all in all, a pretty good stay. Hence 4 stars.
Very centrally located, just adjacent to the main Cuba street, meters away from the marina and just Teo street away from the main shopping area. Nice and friendly staff. Rooms slightly dated but clean and well maintained.
Stayed three nights at the West Plaza, has been recently renovated? Rooms were very tidy, the bar staff were great as well as reception. The only thing missing was a gym, but got a Les Mills pass from reception. Ate in the restaurant one night to a typical hotel meal that was good. Location was ideal fro the meetings and events in the CBD.
Tried the hotel as recommended by conference organiser. Worth getting room rate before mentioning conference discount, as got a better rate. Comfortable rooms, small bar area but fine, good location just minutes from waterfront and te Papa
I was put up at the West Plaza for one night for business. The room itself had some renovation work done, to moderate aesthetic success, yet the windows are still single glazed, which leaves it cold and noisy. The electric heater does its job for the room, although the bathroom (which should really be replaced anyway) remains freezing. It is one of these hotels that want to be upmarket, thus reflecting the really handy location in downtown Wellington, but it just isn't. I heard every word that the people in the room next to mine said, and at 8.30am someone came into my room to clean. Talking of cleaning: it is also one of these places that does not do full duvet covers, but only sheets under the blanket, which always makes me wonder what the blanket had already gone through. I also had the impression that they put all guests of the night on one floor, which might not the smartest thing if you have a noise issue. Breakfast is ok, just, although the ambience of the restaurant (and the bar), located next to the entry, is that of a railway station. However, if you just need a bed near the Town Hall or Michael Fowler Center, this is ideal. If you want to have a hotel that is really worth this price, you might want to go somewhere else.
I stayed at the West Plaza for 6 nights. It is very conveniently located in Downtown Wellington. The room I had was spacious, clean and quiet. I didn't have breakfast there, rather, I chose to use the many cafes near by, so I can't comment on the quality or value.
Basic hotel, comfortable room which was clean and tidy but the walls are so thin could clearly hear people talking in adjoining rooms. The breakfast was good as was the bar area. Staff were professional, helpful and friendly. Great location and an easy walk to restaurants and bars.
The Hotel is in easy reach (walking) for the city centre and Wharf's etc. The Hotel itself was clean and very nice. The staff were very helpful and the rooms spacious. Breakfast was normal but not a big choice of buffet foods.
Chose this hotel in the end for location - we walked everywhere Cuba St, waterfront, mt Victoria (easy to achieve in wellington though!). Friendly easy check in, and room was tidy, clean and spacious enough. I'd say a comfortable 3 star hotel - shower curtain a bit average for a supposed 4 star hotel. Noise wise not a bad spot - regardless where you stay if there is a loud crowd out at 2am the sound will carry. We were on 5th floor. Good value for price, would stay again!
The hotel is near city center. The rooms are spacious and hygiene is good. WIFI is okay. However since the hotel is in the city center it does not have adequate parking facilities. Hence if you are going for a longer stay you need to pay for your parking in public parking area. The hotel does not allow 3 adults in a room. Hence if you are a family of 4 people with one of kid being classified as adult than you need to book another room for them. The staff was decent.
