Conveniently located in downtown Wellington. We did get lucky to get free parking as we were only staying one night on the weekend so we were able to move our vehicle in the morning before being charged or ticketed. Hotel staff was very kind. The hallways on the way to the rooms were odd with many doorways inconveniently placed. We did understand that the purpose of these doors was for fire containment, however they were incredibly cumbersome to deal with while rolling two large suitcase around. The rooms were petite and could use updating. We were unable to shut the bathroom door properly due to the placement of the towel rack.
The bed was comfortable. The entire room was extremely clean which is important to me. My Queen room was an excellent size. The location is ideal...close to eating places and tourist attractions. I will be staying there next time I'm in Wellington.
We stayed there two nights and on arrival found the hotel completely behind scaffolding front and back, which gave it a somewhat weird look. Apparently there is major renovation work going on. Our room on the first floor was basic but clean and functional, and the comfortable bed made for a quiet and enjoyable sleep. WIFI was free and worked perfectly. What makes this hotel attractive for foreign visitors is its very central location close to museums and shopping areas. Everything can be reached within 15 to 30 minutes, with the Te Papa Museum just minutes away. We had dinner there twice and found it delicious, though the dining area is actually open space opposite the reception and part of the entrance hall, therefore potentially rather noisy. Breakfast is also served there and turned out to be above average compared to what we got elsewhere.
This little inner city hotel is clean and neat with friendly helpful staff. The room was basic but enough for what we paid and what we needed. Really good hot water pressure which is always a plus. Very near to almost everything.
Stayed here a few nights for work. Had a panic attack when I read some of the reviews prior to arrival but all turned out ok. They originally had me in a room with 3 single beds but once I pointed out my other half wouldn’t be impressed they moved us without any issue. Room was clean. It’s a little dated but the room was clean, good sized. We asked for a quiet room and that was what we got. Very quiet. Staff were friendly and the car parking was good. Only complaint was the pillows. After an hour they settled to rock hard. My bad, we normally travel with our own. I wouldn’t plan a romantic getaway at West Plaza but for what I was there for it was fine.
We stayed at this hotel when visiting Wellington for WOW. However, nothing wow about this place which apparently carries a 4 star rating. Very small dining area and we made the mistake of having the evening buffet at $40 a head. Very limited choice of food and very poor value for money. Room was adequate and clean. Beware the shower which will not drain into holes. Instead bathroom floor will be sodden after you have had a shower and very mean with towels - 2 for 2 people. What if you are wanting to wrap your hair after washing it? Come on 4 star, be a little more generous with the towels. Hand basin was one of those long troughs - modern but useless because no where to put your toilet bag. Staff very average and due to large numbers staying were unable to cope with pleasant efficiency.
If you want a central hotel that is within easy walking distance of all amenities and attractions that is reasonably priced, clean, comfortable and has friendly staff...then look no further than this hotel. If you need a decent wheelchair accessible room, then the West Plaza has it. Have stayed here a number of times and have never been disappointed.
Arrived on a Monday afternoon an was a bit dismayed to find that the (small) heater in the room hadn't been on and the windows, which are single glazed and don't fit their frames, had been open, so the room was freezing. Plus the corridor outside was just painted breeze block. That aside, however, the room was clean, the queen bed was comfortable, the food was good and the staff were helpful. And it soon warmed up, and I like a hotel with its own laundry facilities (I travel light). Plus it's within a stone's throw of Te Papa, Cuba Street and the waterfront. So all in all, a pretty good stay. Hence 4 stars.
Very centrally located, just adjacent to the main Cuba street, meters away from the marina and just Teo street away from the main shopping area. Nice and friendly staff. Rooms slightly dated but clean and well maintained.
Stayed three nights at the West Plaza, has been recently renovated? Rooms were very tidy, the bar staff were great as well as reception. The only thing missing was a gym, but got a Les Mills pass from reception. Ate in the restaurant one night to a typical hotel meal that was good. Location was ideal fro the meetings and events in the CBD.
