Hotel Hesperia3.0 out of 5.0

We stayed for 3 days over the Easter bank holiday. We primarily booked this hotel for the location, which is great. Couldn’t be much easier to get to from the Marco Polo airport (40 min waterboat to Guglie). We arrived around 1am and checked in fairly easily. We didn’t have the voucher from when we booked online but the chap at the desk just said don’t worry about it and said we could sort it out in the morning, which was a really nice touch. The room we were given was on inital impression really nice, it was standalone from the rest of the hotel – accessed by going to the second floor, exiting through a fire escape and down some steps onto the roof of the next door building. We were initially disappointed as there were 2 single beds (twin room) and we had booked a double, but as it was late decided to sort it the next day. The air conditioning in the room was not working, and as it is separate from the hotel with a flat corrugated iron roof, it was incredibly hot. We had to leave the windows open which allowed in huge numbers of mosquitos that proceeded to bite throughout the night. I had a really uncomfortable sleep and counted around 30 bites the next day. We read the reviews on tripadvisor before arriving and thought it was hilarious that the hotel were so defensive of the negative reviews. Turns out they are exactly the same in person! By our own error, we didnt manage to sort out the room the following day, so spent another night in the same place. The following day, I went to reception and explained about the air con. I was told that it is a centrally controlled system and it was hotel policy not to use it outside of peak season. Basically there was nothing they could do. When I explained about the twin beds they were actually quite quick to offer to move us, but not before printing out the email they had received from the travel agent to absolutely prove that it wasn’t them that had made a mistake. Breakfast was average. Toast, cereal, yoghurt, cold meats and cheese etc. We weren’t expecting the world. Summary: Must be one of the easiest hotels to get to from the airport, good quiet location, turned out to be quite a pleasant stay. It's a shame the hotel feels it has to be so defensive about it's small downfalls - would maybe just be worth reviewing them rather than trying to prove any negative response is either inaccurate or not their fault!
Stayed here for four nights and found it ideal for the water buses, station, etc. The lack of a lift was significant after many hours walking the many steep steps around Venice. We found the breakfast a big disappointment and ended up going elsewhere. The Italians seem to have a one cup of coffee only habit and the selection of food was very limited. The hotel does well for what it is and our room had good views, a safe (firmly attached to the shelf), minibar with good prices and very clean - a major fault was the lack of comfortable seats - we had just one hard backed chair.
Everything you would expect for a 3 star hotel. The location is excellent in terms of access to the waterbuses. St Marks is a brisk 20 minutes or so. The bus station about 15 minutes but very easy to find - keep the Grand canal on your right. After the train station turn left at the first bridge and hotel just on your left after 100 or so yards. The staff very friendly and helpful. On the last day did my online check in for me and printed the boarding passes off. Been to much more expensive places that have refused to do that. We were given the "pent house room" Really good, although the roof terrace is shared with all the other guests it was almost for our exclusive use. It has a view of the canal. Room was clean and had multi channel tv. The bathroom only had a shower which I prefer anyway. The shower head though could do with looking at. Also a mini bar. Breakfast was excellent - a very full continental breakfast - we ate so much only had an ice cream during the day. If we visited Venice again we would look to stay here. Thank you for a very welcoming and pleasant stay. I should add it is 60 steps to our room - there isn't a lift. Not a problem for us but if steps do cause a problem don't have this room.
The hotel didn't have a lift but manage to get 1st floor as we had a baby and someone elderly but the staff she did help us to drop the bag to the room. Later I asked a member of staff about Wi-Fi and he say is not free when the website says is free, there wasn't any baby seat in the morning for breakfast, the staff didn't asked if what hot drink would I like to have or bother to ask anything seemed not interested on me, the hot water in the morning wasn't working either staff could be more helpful could have been a bit better experience as is harder with a baby.
Recently back from a four-night stay. Would highly recommend Hesperia as a place to explore Venice. Lovely staff, good breakfast, nice room. Hotel is really easy to access from the airport (there is a water bus spot pretty much directly opposite) and not too far away from train/bus station. It's located far enough away from the hustle and bustle of St Mark's etc to have a nice quiet vibe about the area, but it's only a few water bus stops or a 20-minute walk until you're in the thick of things. There is plenty to do and see nearby in Cannaregio too - good selection of bars/restaurants very close to Hesperia, plus sights like Madonna dell'Orto church and the Venetian Ghetto.
Stayed with my wife for 4 nights , breakfast included at price 279 Eur . We first wanted to have a room with canal view, but that was extra 200 eur so we did not took it. But when we arrived the hotel gave us, the canal view room , no extra charge :). The breakfast is really great ( ham / salami / , eggs, cereals, cofee, orange / grapefruit juce, fruits, yogurt, milk, jam, nutella, butter, cookies, Jam / ciocolate croissant. toast etc ). The hotel staff will bring you coffe / capucino / hot chocolate at table. For an Venice hotel i say is a really good choice, next time i will go there also . The weather was rainy in first day, but then it got warm ( 15 C ) so you could go in T-shirt . The only thing i did not like was the TV channels ( all voice dubled in Italian, except for BBC )
We enjoyed a nice 3 night stay at this convenient hotel. Room was nicely decorated and well made every day by housekeeping. Room had all essentials minus tea/coffee facilities, definitely worth the fair price. The staff were warm and friendly and happy to assist at all times. Only slight disturbance was noise from corridor from about 9 am as people move suitcases down the stairs, etc, but this wouldn't really disturb anyone who is averse to lying in late in the mornings. Well recommended accommodation!
arrived at 12 and told room was not ready. I was invited to upgrade to a canal view room for 20 euro, accepted the offer. room was very comfortable and nicely decorated. hotel is situated in a quiet part of venice but within a short and very nice walk of the main attractions. breakfast is okay, nothing to write home about.
This is a great budget option if you want to be in the centre of Venice without the price tag! The staff are lovely and go the extra mile (I got breakfast in bed on the morning of my birthday). The rooms are very basic but clean and decent furniture. Recommended!
I initially booked the hotel for my adult daughter and so was looking for a bargain. At €90 it certainly appeared so. However, ended up staying the second night there myself. Off the Allilaguna stop at Guglie it is fairly easy to get to from the airport. The lobby and entrance are unpretentious, all expectedly so. The room (104) was a single flight up the stairs. Tiny but included a desk and a compact bathroom. The bathroom's shower stall is ingenious in that the doors slide within just enough to let the average person in/out. However, if you're anything over 220 pounds you are going without a shower. The bed was another matter. The mattress was somewhat hard (which I can deal with) but sank on one side giving me the sense that I was still on the vaporetto from the airport but in a permanently listed state. I may have gone along with that imagery except that the room temperature towards midnight approached 45 celsius by which point I could have empathized with a toad left in a slowly heating bucket of water. I "solved" the problem by opening the bathroom window and the cold air evened out the temperature. Caveat emptor.
