Right near the border between Georgia and Florida, you can find Valdosta. It has all the charm, heart, and hospitality you can expect from a Southern city. More than that, it also happens to be the perfect place for thrill seekers. Not for nothing did National Geographic name it the state’s best adventure town. From its famous theme park to its gorgeous azaleas to its sunny weather, even the most indoorsy person will want to be out and about. Spend your day exploring Valdosta from its historic landmarks to its natural hotspots and then end it digging in to some fine Southern cuisine.
Wondering where to stay in Valdosta? There are quite a few different areas depending on your interests and itinerary. If you want to be centrally located and near all the action, you will want to stay in Valdosta’s Historic Downtown and Fairview Historic District. Walk around and enjoy the beautiful architecture, which pulls its inspiration from multiple eras, including Victorian and Neo-Eclectic. Visit the many galleries, trendy boutiques, restaurants, and more while you are wandering. However, do not miss a show at the Theatre Guild Valdosta. It has a number of charming local shows that everyone will enjoy.
Then, be sure to stop in at the Lowndes County Historical Society and Museum should you be interested in learning a bit more about the local history. In that case, you will also enjoy the exhibitions at the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts. A real highlight of Valdosta is the Wild Adventures Theme Park. From crazy roller coasters to the famous Splash Island theme park to popular concerts, you can easily spend a whole day here.
If you are visiting family in the military, you may want to look at staying near the Moody Air Force Base. Looking to get outside? Then opt for hotels near Barber Park or Bland Park. Still, if you want to work on your golf swing, there are a number of golf clubs around. Choose between Stone Creek Golf Club, Kinderlou Forest Golf Club, or Moody Quiet Pines Golf Course.

There are actually a few different airports you can use to get to Valdosta. In case you are coming from far away, you will most likely fly into Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which is also considered one of the busiest airports in the whole country. If you are planning on flying elsewhere after your trip, you may want to spend the night at one of its many nearby hotels since the airport is still a good 3-hour drive from Valdosta.
Another option is Tallahassee International Airport. Though it has fewer options than Hartsfield, it is only 90 minutes away and you can stay at one its nearby hotels over night. Your best option for getting into town, however, is Valdosta Regional Airport, which is a mere 10-minute drive away from downtown. There are only three arrivals and departures each weekday as well as only two on Saturdays, so you may want to plan accordingly.
