We arrived at 11:45pm mid week. We were only staying one night and just needed a safe, clean place to sleep. The location was hidden behind some abandoned buildings and there were a few drunk guys in the adjacent parking lot stumbling around. When we got to our room, it was mostly clean though the bathroom was questionable. At breakfast in the lobby the next morning, their was a fly floating in the milk. Still had a drunk guy walking around the parking lot the next morning. Only positives was the comfortable bed and the front desk clerk was very nice. Overall I did not feel safe at all at this location.
Overall, this is not a terrible hotel. The room was clean enough and the bed was comfortable enough. That being said, here are the notable cons to this location: 1) The room felt very damp on our arrival and all the bed linens felt equally damp. They do not run the A/C at all to keep the moisture out of the room, so all the humidity soaks into the linens. We cranked the A/C up and hung all the linens for several hours and that helped dry them out a bit. 2) The shower bursts out scalding hot water every couple minutes. It does not matter what temperature you have the water at the rest of the time (warm, luke-warm, cold) - every couple minutes it will burn you. 3) The internet is completely worthless. This, to me, is a huge violation and the main reason for my low rating. HIgh-speed internet is a basic amenity at any hotel, and it drives me crazy when a business can't offer even the most minimal of wireless internet signals. I ran a speed test on it and it clocked in at 0.16Mb download and 0.10Mb upload, and this is just when it's working at its peak. Half the time there's no signal at all. It takes several minutes just to check email, and forget about streaming Netflix or Youtube. You might as well be running on dial-up. If internet is even remotely important to you, you'll want to look somewhere else.
The worst place. Maximum one night. Strange, drunk and noisy guests. We were scared. Rooms are clean but not smoke free. Bathroom terrible. Hard to find it is not by the road and in a really scary area. Breakfast was a joke. Receptionist was friendly though.
It was just what we wanted. A clean room with a comfortable bed, a microwave, tv and I believe it had a refrig though we didn't use or need it. The only thing was the shower nozzle was a little on the short side if you're washing your hair. If you're a tall person this might be a problem. I'm 5'5". All in all it was a great value. $55.99 plus tax.
The room was nice enough and the price was reasonable, but after my client locked himself out of his room, the office staff would not let him back in my room with out an ID. His ID was in his room? They had made a copy of his ID at check in, but it took an act of congress to get ""Ron" to look at the ID and confirm this was indeed the customer they had registered to the room. Not a good way to get return customers in a town saturated with hotels.
The room assigned was as requested - ground floor, non-smoking. The rooms are not large, but adequate in size. We were in room 245. The overall look of the room was fine. BUT the bathroom door would not close properly, the sink faucet temperature control was not functioning as it should, the ottoman was soiled and mismatched to the chair. The biggest problem is difficult to describe. We were guests for 4 nights. Each morning we woke up with a cough and sore throat that would vanish as the day went on, only to be apparent again the next morning. This occurred each night/morning. Unfortunately I now have bronchitis. My spouse fared a bit better after one night at home. So be aware, there may be some sort of environmental problem. We even tried to avoid the problem by completely turning off the a/c - the night was below 20 - but that didn't help either. The housekeeping staff does a nice job of trying to keep an older facility clean. Toiletries are minimal - one bar of soap to share between the sink and shower, etc. Towels were fine, bed was comfortable. WiFi spotty. Motel was behind a large closed motel. A bit hard to find. They are trying, but the maintenance needs to improve.
Upon check-in, we went to the first room assigned. The bathroom light was out, making it too dark for showering. The second room assigned had horrible TV reception and the fan motor for the heater/ac had an awful screeching sound. Finally, the third room had everything in working order. The young gal at the front desk was the saving grace. She was all smiles and didn't make us feel like we were complainers. She made the experience 100% better than it could have been. Each room we looked at had different furniture set up and unfortunately, the working room only had one chair, no table or desk, and no lamps around the bed or on the nightstands. The management provided ice bucket liners, but no bucket and we had to go to the front office to ask for tissues. We managed for the evening, slept well in a very comfortable bed, and left in the morning. The breakfast was as simple as it gets--instant oatmeal, cold cereal, prepackaged pastries, white bread for toast, orange juice, and coffee. Simple, but filling. In general, the room wasn't dirty, but it didn't seem clean. I actually wish I hadn't looked behind the bed... The surrounding area seems old and rundown, the vacant hotel in front if this place was a bit creepy. The cost was just over $50, but I'm not sure it was worth it. With a little research, you can probably do much better for $20 more.
This is a really well-run motel. Rooms are very clean, and although the motel is an older building, the owners have done a great job of keeping it up to date and in excellent condition. It's a very quiet hotel, set well back from the highway. Rooms are quite large (by motel standards) and it was a pleasant surprise to find that the rooms still had old-fashioned "bright" light bulbs in them - not those horrible dim compact fluorescent bulbs that newer properties use. All in all, great value for the money, you won't do any better if you spend twice as much and go to a Comfort Inn, Hampton, etc. Both smoking and non-smoking rooms are available (a very nice courtesy to smokers). My only suggestion is that the owners raise the prices by a dollar or two, and then use that money to buy more internet bandwidth. Wi-Fi is free, but terribly slow... more bandwidth is needed to achieve reasonable download speeds.
We were made very welcome. Our ground floor Room was really Clean and tidy. Smells nice and everything works which is a bonus. Fantastic value for the money. Really pleased and it has been one of the best of our u.s trip.would recommended as a budget hotel.
Found the Rodeway a couple years ago. I visit Tupelo to work area 3 to 4 times a year. It has been clean always. Quiet and comfortable. Smaller rooms. Easy and direct access to room. Which I look for.( I don't like schlepping stuff down an endless hallway.) Good dining choices within a mile or so north up Gloster Street toward mall. It does sit behind a now defunct hotel property. I have not allowed that to deter me. Pool is quite nice. Staff quick and accommodating.
