Great customer service, room with balcony was excellent with all the facilities we needed. Bath was amazing but the hot tub on the 6th floor was out of this world (bath tub was only after 10pm when hot tub was out of hours). Great, unbelievable location, very central.
We (family of three) spend a very comfortable four nights in a deluxe two bedroom ensuite apartment (double) last week. The apartment was large and spacious, well appointed and clean. We had a lovely view of the harbour across to McMahons Point and were within an easy five minute walk to The Rocks, Circular Quay, Barangaroo and the CBD. All staff were polite and helpful. We would recommend The York.
The hotel is located right by the freeway, and you can hear it. The rubber seals of the windows have dried out a long ago, so the noise from the lorries, buses, and cars below have direct access to your room. I'm not a light sleeper, but I woke up at 5AM every morning due to the noise from the freeway. The only time I slept longer was when I was so exhausted from not being able to fall asleep due to the noise the evening before. The apartment was in need of some serious renovation. All the appliances are from the 90s, large putty marks that hadn't been painted over, yellowed AC-units, loose fittings and chipped paintwork. Your milage may vary as the apartments are owned by private individuals and the hotel isn't responsible for the upkeep. The hotel should enforce some minimum standard.
We had a great stay in the 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment. We had a great view from the 15th floor. Very spacious. I had a medical issue arise and needed an ice packet (no ice machine at this hotel) and the staff went to another hotel to get me ice. This was above and beyond great service. The only reason I did not give a 5 star is because I booked the hotel directly with the hotel site and when we arrived they said we still owed money. We had to spend time access our bank account and showing we paid in full at time of booking. Which we booked almost 1 year in advance. The location of this hotel is pretty ideal. About a mile walking to The Rocks area, the Sydney Opera House area and restaurants. However, nothing within a closer area for eating after a certain hour. Also I had no idea there was a pool until I spoke to another guest in the hallway. Maybe the hotel should provide each guest details about what the hotel offers.
My mother and I had a wonderful stay. The one studio apartment was very comfortable with a nice balcony overlooking the Sydney Centre Point tower. The venue is located on a hill in York and Margaret streets close to Wynyard station. It’s 10 minutes walk to the Sydney Opera House. Five minutes to Martin Place. Staff were nice but were over-worked given that it was New Year’s Eve in Sydney. Need to employ more staff for these dates. Car park entrance is via Margaret Street, this information would have been beneficial prior to arrival. Loved the hot spa on level 6. Would like to return to this venue.
Myself and 4 friends stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment. It was very spacious - plenty of room for everything and everyone. 2 Bathrooms were perfectly suitable. Lifts were VERY VERY slow. Very clean although dishwasher had been run by either cleaner or previous tenant and items were still in there. We wondered where the other items of crockery were.
We stayed in this large apartment for 2 nights. It had a large, separate bedroom with comfortable bed, good sized kitchen, large spacey lounge, dining table, sofa etc. Best of all it was close to the lovely newly opened area, The Barangaroo which is part of the Darling Harbour complex. Great place to relax & people watch, have lunch, drinks or dinner. They did make a mistake on our account by charging us for wines & water which we didn't have, but they corrected this within a couple of days & put things right. We also had a god sized balcony but didn't use it due as it was too noisy outside.
1. Do you crave to be in a “renovated” unit that clearly has not been renovated since the 90s? And pay the higher price for it? 2. Do you desire lackadaisical service from the front desk and housekeeping service that doesn’t come around until 1 pm? (Oh and housekeeping only works from 8.30-2.30 daily). 3. Do you want spotty and sometimes non-existent unsecured WiFi (despite their claims it is a secure network)? 4. Do you want a washing machine that when run will push the runoff water through the pipes into the shower, leaving bits of god knows what on your shower floor? 5. Do you want to be in a building where you can hear drunk people screaming on the streets even though you are on the 17th floor? 6. Do you want to be in a hotel where housekeeping takes 20 minutes to make your bed, and seems to be confused as to how to efficiently clean a unit, then forgets to refill all paper products? And when you call down to the front desk, they take 20 minutes to come back up and then don’t apologize? 7. Do you want to be in a hotel where you’ve called the front desk to send housekeeping (or at least fresh towels) for three days in a row, but no one ever shows up, so you finally go downstairs and tell them unless someone gets up there, we would like a vacuum to clean our own unit? 8. Do you want a hotel where having even two customers in line overwhelms them? And when you ask them about babysitting services (indicated in their brochure), they pass you off to another employee who then tells you they will call you because there is a person checking in in front of you, and then she never calls? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, this is the hotel for you! I’m baffled by the 4 and 5 star reviews for this hotel. My husband was assigned to a project in Sydney, so we had little time to locate a hotel that would have a separate room, kitchen, and laundry for us and our baby. We found The York. It was pricey for a “renovated” 2 bedroom suite (over $400 aud a night!), but the other hotel we were looking at was sold out through February. The building itself is ridiculously outdated for the price. The employees are nice but useless. The hallways are gross and often there is at least one elevator out of order. There was chipped tile in the kitchen, banged up wall corners, a flaking lamp shade, and a general state of mustiness for an upgraded “renovated” unit - if it was renovated, it was probably back in the 90s. (Photo attached) The “amenities” are laughable - a small musty gym and a smaller pool. 1/2 of the fridge space is taken up with “mini bar” items. If you want them removed, it’s an extra $10 - what??! The only positive things about this hotel were the deck, there was AC, and the location. We spent 2.5 weeks there and couldn’t wait to leave. We are back in Sydney for a longer stretch and got an air bnb for $100 less a night that is a HUGE improvement. Don’t waste your money here unless you get it for really cheap during low season and don’t plan to spend any time in the unit.
Room was nice and clean with a large living space and had two large balconies. Comfortable fit for 6 people and pretty easy to find if your coming from over the Sydney harbour bridge. Private parking is available and easily accessible. The only thing I would complain about is that the fold out bed in the study wasn't made when we arrived, so we had to make it ourselves.
I really enjoyed staying in this place, loved the interior of the room and all the equipment, very clean and the staff was friendly. Also, the location is very convenient. Suitable for a solo traveller, business people or couples.
