North Sydney Harbourview Hotel

I was happy to get an early check in after a red eye from Singapore. The room is basic, clean and comfortable. The morning complimentary shoe shine was a nice touch. They’ll need an upgrade of the bath to a shower head, than just a rain shower, and the breakfast... for the price.

A primary feature of the NSHH is its view of Sydney Harbour, and the view is in fact sensational. Room comfortable enough, hotel restaurant quite good. The main peculiarity is a number of design choices, mostly having to do with the bathroom. First, the shower is a floor-level walk-in with such a slight incline toward the drain that it is almost impossible to take a shower without getting water all over the bathroom floor. Second, there is a plate glass window between the bathroom and the bedroom. Somebody's idea of jollies? There is a shade to pull for privacy, but it is not enough to block light from the bathroom, and it's bright enough to wake up anybody you might be keeping company with. No mirror anywhere but the bathroom and finally (though slightly trivial), the kleenex box is behind the door of the bathroom medicine cabinet, making it a little awkward to access, especially if you have a sneeze coming on. Without these design distractions, the hotel would be really good. Instead, it's a mix of quite good and fairly annoying.

I got really motion sick on the plane and we requested to check in early because I had been so sick for the 20-hour flight. They refused to let us check in early saying that they were completely booked, on their off season in Sydney. So we waited in the lobby for 8.5 hours until I finally went up to the staff and demanded a room be prepared because it had been over an hour past check-in time. Their response was that they wanted to give us a better room than a lower floor that was clean... I was so upset after puking on the plane for six hours I could care less about the view and they knew I was unwell. The room was average at best. There was a major issue with no air vent in the bathroom so when you took a shower it took all day for the steam to leave the room. The windows had steam on them the whole week so we could not even see out. If you want your breakfast fully cooked I don't advise being first at breakfast as it was never fully cooked by starting time.

We stayed on 10th floor, large bed, good air-con, clean and comfortable. Fabulous views (from our room and the lift lobby) of the Sydney Harbour Bridge & the harbour itself out towards Rose Bay, good to watch the cruise ships coming in from if you're up early! Not sure if rooms on the other side of the hotel can see the Opera House - guessing maybe not due to other buildings obstructing view. North Sydney station is only a couple of minutes walk away (uphill from the hotel). As the hotel is in the heart of the Central Business District (CBD), there isn't much going on at the weekends, but there is a Coles (Tesco equivalent) and a 7 Eleven (small convenience store) nearby. Mon-Fri, Greenwood Plaza (2-3 min walk, opposite the station) has a great food court and a lovely listed church at its centre, that is now a popular bar, but retains features and is worth a visit. We had no issue with train noise. Staff were pleasant enough, rooms cleaned daily. We didn't use the bar or have breakfast there, but the bar always had someone in and seemed popular in the evenings. All in all, a comfortable stay for the money and i would go back. Just be aware there is also a completely different hotel on the other side of the river called Harbour View, so if you are getting taxis make sure you say it's in North Sydney....realistically though, the train network is very efficient and can get you around with ease.

I booked this hotel to attend a nearby conference BEFORE I read the reviews on here. As a light sleeper, I was dismayed to read about the potential train noise, so I called the hotel and asked for a room on a higher floor. The staff member said they couldn't promise anything, but she would make a note of my request. On arrival, I was pleased to be told my room was on Level 9. Yes, the trains do run beneath this building, and while I could still hear the soft rumbling below, I was definitely able to sleep. The harbour views are simply stunning and the hotel represents great value. Breakfast was good and all the staff very attentive. I would stay there again.

we have stayed here numerous times. We always take the weekend away couples deal. Great value. Free parking, great buffet breakfast and harbour view room. Never disappoints. We always book in advance so we don't miss this great deal.

What a lovely night we spent here. The view from the room was just breathtaking, the bed was comfy, and the room was spotless. The staff were all very attentive, and the bar was surprisingly affordable....especially during happy hour! Buffet breakfast had plenty to offer, and the view from the restaurant was delightful. Definitely be returning here.

We were excited to be staying at a highly recommended hotel which I was told, had harbour views from every room. Imagine my disappointment when we checked in to a family room on the fourth floor to find a view of the railway lines, with a distant view of the harbour. The room shook every time a train went by. I believe the train line is under the hotel. We paid a substantial amount per night for the room and I was very disappointed. To their credit, when I approached the reception desk and explained why I was unhappy in the room, especially due to the noise of the train, they moved us to the opposite end of the hotel on the 6th floor. There was only a very distant rumble of the train which was not an issue, and the view was spectacular! Not sure why we were not given this room in the first place. If you can get a room on the side of the hotel furthest from the bridge, and at a higher level, you will not be disappointed.

A recent conference at Luna Park necessitated a stay locally. This hotel has views of the Harbour, bridge and Luna Park from most rooms although my friend on the second floor had a tree in the way. We were on the 5th. The rooms were a good size for two king singles and room to move. Enjoyed Happy Hour in the bar and the onsite restaurant is perfectly fine to eat at also. There are many steps to walk down to get the ferry to the cbd, a very scenic way to travel and our choice every time. The train is quite handy but not sure of the station as I didn't use it.

My room had brilliant views of the city, especially good at nighttime. I took advantage of the lobby bar and restaurants to meet friends. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Location is excellent and just a minute's walk to North Sydney train station. Only problem was that the train line actually runs beneath the building so you hear and feel rumblings, especially on the ground floor. I stayed on the second floor but quickly got used to that, so it would not stop me from staying again.
