It's very close to Sydney central, it's extremely clean, it's stuff is very very kind, its near to a supermarket and it's near to central train station! It has a big kitchen! The room is good with nice mattress. I believe it has everything you really need! Thanks to all amazing stuff!
I'm sorry to have to say this but even though if heard that Sydney hostels do not have the best rep this place was a joke. I was so disappointed in everything. The place wants money from you for everything, every time I needed something and I didn't have cash I had to go withdraw cash and pay a charge from my bank to do so. After coming from a clean, tidy, modern more cheaper hostel where every one can't do enough for you I was certainly shocked. Most people probably wouldn't mind that the kitchen was dirty, the bedrooms were the temperatures of the arctic in winter time and damp not to mention the ridiculous additonal charge for wifi. The place needs a total renovation because it's so outdated, haggered and old! To top it all off when I needed help down the stairs with all my bags and suitcases as I have a medical problem with my back (chronic back pain from bulging discs) they wouldn't help! I've never been so annoyed at anywhere i have stayed in my entire life and it just seems like none of the staff give a damn and want to help you.
The only good about this place is the location, the rest is terrible. It started when we arrived and where about to leave our bags in the baggage room. Then I immediately saw two big cockroaches running around and we therefor didn't want to leave them in there. We then had to wait for 4 hours until we could check in since the lockers that you could hire was broken. The hostel was really not fresh, the carpet smelled and was really dirty and there was cockroaches crawling around everywhere, even around peoples food in the kitchen. You had to have a bag from Woolworths or Coles unless you don't want your food to be thrown away. But the worst part was the room. Me and my boyfriend had an own room with a bunk bed. There was no aircon, just a fan. Therefor the heath in the room was unbearable. One morning my boyfriend ran out of the room since he couldn't breath in there. Also, when we washed our clothes and hang it in there it never dried since the air was so weird in there, so the clothes started to sour. This hostel is not only bad, but also expensive. After this hostel we changed to Base and after that Hump, that was not much more/night.
Positive: -many restaurants and convenience stores nearby - near everything - nice staff at the reception, welcoming and respectful - big kitchen, relatively big dining area - toilets are being cleaned everyday - free food on different days (doughnuts, pancakes, chicken, etc) Negative: - really small rooms (but for the price, it's worth it) - no elevator since it is just 2 levels but if you have a big luggage, this can be an issue - no free wifi (i suggest you can just get a sim card at the airport, got mine for just 14 aud for 10 days)
This backpackers is very conveniently located for Central Sydney Station and the Haymarket área in general as it sided onto Goulburn Street and many of the main attractions in Sydney´s Chinatown. We had no problems there whatsoever and everything went smnoothly during our stopover night there.
So for all the cleaning that was done when I stayed the place is still a grubby hole!! I stayed for two nights and I regretted it almost instantly.. At 5am the cleaner decided to start hoovering at that time I really don't know but to bang about the cleaning closet after which I would say everyone could hear!! Start hoovering at 6:30am and every hour up till 9:30am until I decided to leave! When asking the staff about the location and things to do they just did not want to know and where very unhelpful!!
We stayed here for 4 nights. The place itself is very accesible to museum and central stations, hyde park and town center. The coles supermarket is close as well. There were small restau nearby. The staffs were friendly and helpful.
Absolutely disgusting! We arrived to a freshly painted room which still smelt like paint fumes and on the ceiling was spots of green mould. We asked for a refund so we could go elsewhere however that was denied so we where moved to another room which was slightly better. The showers and toilets smell like dirty feet all day every day. One shower block had mould growing around the silicone joints on the floor. Beds are like rocks, if your over 6 foot you wont fit in the beds. All the carpets throughout are badly stained and have a distinct smell to them. Seems like no rules here, people yelling at all hours of the night. If you are a clean backpacker with a sense of pride then this place is not for you. Prison would be cleaner and more peaceful.
If you want to stay in the centre of Sydney then this is the place. Stayed for 3 nights in a single room. While the bedding and towels were fresh and clean the place could do with new carpets and a paint job to tidy it up. Hot water every time I used the showers and even through it seemed busy I had no issue getting a shower. Looked to be lots of activities being organised and I was asked if I wanted to attend a tour the following day. Free pancakes on Sunday morning and burgers on Tuesday evening. Check for other social events. Huge kitchen and lots of food storage. 1 minute walk to a large supermarket and being on Pitt Street you are in the heart of the city. Reception staff were really helpful. I left my luggage when I first arrived as I couldn't check in early as the place had been full the night before. Second floor room was quiet. This place is a backpackers, it's not the Hilton so don't expect that. Mix of ages 18+ backpackers, locals and even a few like me 50+
The room was quite cram with shared 4 person, the ventilation wasn't that great especially when sleeping on the top bunk with only 1 small windows. No place to sit / no lounge and have to check in the room by 11 pm, cannot hang around the lounge areas. On the positive side, the staff member were quite helpful. it was OK stayed but not enjoying the environments. Jail house rock - it's a bit like that. Thanks
