We booked with the hotel for a 40th anniversary dinner and to say it was a nightmare would be an understatement. We waited over 1hr 40mins for our main course with nothing forthcoming and stated we were about to leave. The gentleman in reception was amazing in helping us (I'm sorry I can't immediately recall your name) but the kitchen staff let everyone down. The hotel did not charge us for the meal in the end which was thoroughly decent of them, however there are clearly issues to be addressed in the kitchen as there were only 2 steaks available at 7pm. Having said the above, the food we (eventually) received was great and I would rate them well had we not had the other issues.
Would have preferred an individual cream tea, as that was what I had paid for. Scones and cakes delisious and there were plenty of them, but not enought sandwiches and bread uninspiring. It is also very expencive for what you get. They provide gluten free bread, but are stuck when you have other allergies like dairy and nuts. Staff friendly. 2 out of 3 toilets upstairs don't flush, so quite unpleasant. Not sure I will be doing this again.
Checked and checked out as quickly, not upgraded rooms 3rd floor with aircon. Unusual for UK was boiling hot and Alt rooms left. Normally a reasonable hotel. Bkfst to be recommended, won't be heading there till fall.
Visit 29/06/17 - 02/07/2017 After a 5 hour drive we arrived at the hotel, only to find there weren't any parking spaces left! Luckily for us, someone left after we'd waited in the car park for 10 mins wondering where we could put the car! We went to reception and had to wait about 15 minutes to be seen. The man behind the counter decided to ignore us until my husband asked if we could check in. It seems as though he had never heard this phrase before as he replied sharply with 'what?!'. He made it quite obvious that he wasn't happy to be there. my husband repeated himself and the guy sighed and then asked for our surname. My husband gave our surname (Jones), and we were then asked 'how do you spell that? ' I don't mean to be rude, but it's really not a difficult surname to spell. He then gave us the room key, my husband asked if it was the Executive room like we booked, the guy said yes, and then stood there, silently, looking at us for what felt like at least 20 seconds. My husband picked up the card and went to leave, when the man shouted ' I haven't finished yet!' ( I'd like to point out that another guest was waiting to check in, and looked as shocked as I was at his unprofessional response). the receptionist then said 'I can see you have paid online', we confirmed that we had, and he said ' ok, you can go now!' Honestly, it was a bizarre experience! The receptionists attitude put a bit of a dampener on things, which was only made worse by walking along what felt like miles of corridors with stained carpets, and dirty walls. The hotel is very run down, but I was pleasantly surprised when we entered our room (319), which seemed tidy enough. On our first morning housekeeping walked into our room while I was changing, which was a bit of a shock for us both! He then asked me if he wanted me to clean the room! I said 'no, not now, later', but no one came back, and we were left with full bins, and damp towels. However, they did come to clean the room the following morning. Breakfast was £15.50 each, give it a miss and go to one of the cafes in town - much better value. The lady on reception when we were checking out was very courteous and polite - a refreshing change from the rude man on reception when we arrived! Would I stay again? Probably not. On this occasion the cons outweigh the pros.
After staying at the Bush hotel I don't think I will be in a hurry to visit again ! The Hotel itself sits in a prominent position in Farnham town centre, the staff are polite and courteous and food was good, that said the hotel itself is a bit tired and could really do with a complete makeover, had a drink at the bar and had a couple of packets of crisps only to find them out of date by (2 months. The room we stayed in was grubby! The windows couldn't be opened due to lack of maintenance, I had to ask at reception for a fan, so not much sleep due to heat, as there is no air conditioning throughout ! No excuse ....21st century for goodness sake ! Mercure sort it out ! as their are cheaper and cleaner Hotels in the area .
A disappointing hotel that is old, tired and unloved. A bit grubby in places the worst thing is the repair and maintenance everywhere (or lack of it!). Not what I expected from the Mercure brand ... I'd have been happier at an Ibis!
A great location but looking very tired and in desperate need of overhaul. Bedrooms are basic and the shower didn't work. Breakfast left standing -better breakfast at McDonald's!!! Function rooms could be great but really need some TLC
Hotel is in a nice central place but also quietly tucked away. As others have said in reviews the decor is a little bit tired but still quite a nice hotel that I would visit again. There was a good selction on the buffet breakfast which was good on the first morning but cold on the second. staff were very helpful especially George
Been here on business visit. The hotel is very proxy good eateries and restaurants. Location in best place of the town. Accessible to all shops and malls. The hotel serves good breakfast. The rooms are spacious and bathrooms too! Nice view from the room.
Like many of the previous reviewers, we stayed here due to its proximity to a wedding venue. Ultimately much of what's said before is completely correct so I won't labour the point too much. There has clearly been no upkeep or refurb for years. Decor is dreadful. I could go into lots of detail, but just picture a 1980s Torquay B&B that's is unchanged. On the other hand I would not agree with the criticism of the staff. All the staff we met from reception to the bar were very nice; incredible given that they must spend their whole time fielding complaints. At the end of the day, people book chains like Accor/mercure in search of a basic minimum standard and this hotel falls WELL below it, especially for the outrageous prices that don't include breakfast.
