The hotel is shabby and needs significant capital spend. The receptionist who met us on arrival seemed disinterested and uninformed. We went to our room. We noticed that there was only one dressing gown and there are two people booked into the room. The water for the sink was warm not hot. I telephoned the number for reception it was not answered. I rang twice for at least 30 or 40 seconds. I went to reception and spoke to the same woman. I told her the problems. She said she would arrange for a dressing gown to be delivered. It was not. Instead two more pairs of slippers were delivered?! The duty manager came he tried the water and said it was warm he would go to the boiler room to fix it. He did not fix it The water remained warm not hot. This was an entirely disappointing and unedifying experience. The details that they put on the website are misleading. The hotel is in need of significant refurbishment. The decor is tired. The staff are disinterested. All in all this was not the kind of experience we expected from a group like Mercure. I will not be going to this hotel ever again. I will not be going to a Mercure hotel again without some proper details. The feedback on the TripAdvisor site should have warned us because there are plenty of expressions of dissatisfaction on there. Altogether they really do need to look more closely at how this hotel is run and need to spend some money on it. Very disappointed
Initially contacted hotel and was told they were too busy and would ring back. Some hours later and with no call, we attempted to use the booking number on the website. Mercure use an partly automated telephone booking service which means you end up talking to a call centre overseas (suspect India). Crackly telephone lines, long pregnant silences (thinking you've been cut off) before finally getting through to a supervisor who then lost my call! When I rang back again, she still couldn't help us. We were trying to book two pre-reserved rooms and apparently I still had to speak to hotel. If this is an indication of the standards of service Mercure offer, I'm afraid don't want to stay there. They certainly appear to be understaffed on reception and I don't feel they put their customers at the heart of their business. I wanted to share my experience with the hotel manager; Tony Tijhuis, but my call just rang and rang with no answer. You can't leave feedback on the Mercure website - hence this is my only option.
The hotel is a bit shabby and for the price I was not that impressed! I thin that there may even be better in Farnham considering they are part of a larger chain I was surprised they have let standards slip like this.
Unfortunately the website is massively false advertising the condition and cleanliness of the hotel. The first thing to hit us was he stench from our room and the corridors outside - stale and damp smell. Rust and dust in the bathroom, not to mention the tired decor. The bedrooms were small and really dark with dirty curtains with stains on and the pillows... well they are more like pancakes. The lamps were bent where they are obviously so old and broken. And the toilets downstairs were disgusting - unclean, tissue everywhere and they also stunk! We left this hotel after about an hour after really trying to look past all this, but the smell was awful and we didn't want our clothes to smell the next day from the wardrobe. We ended up going to the Beat Western down the road and have made a formal complaint. We complained to the manager on the day as well, who was actually really apologetic and when we showed him the website photos, he apologised knowing how bad he comparison is (there is no comparison.... ignore the website as it's NOT what you get!). really really disappointed. At least it made our night funny as it was so bad we were either going to laugh or cry! Would not recommend or go back.
Was really looking forward to the stay, the pictures on the website looked really good.... unfortunately our room looked nothing like the one in the picture. The furniture in the room looked tired and the bathroom well... the plywood bath panel had peeling paint, the door was cracked and had a really jagged bottom edge, basically it had an unlived feel about it - thankfully the bed was comfortable so we got a good nights sleep and a hearty breakfast to look forward to..... sadly disappointment number two, the breakfast was quite frankly tasteless, bacon, sausage etc right down to the watery baked beans, it gave the impression that it was as cheap as it could get; have to rate the value as average because of this. The staff were friendly but sorry won't be staying there again - shame really..
Stayed here overnight after attending a wedding in the local area. Nice comfortable bed, nice gardens, loved the decor of the place, all period features still in place too. We paid for the breakfast in the morning which was full English & continental options, both buffet style & was very nice too. Great little hotel. If I'm in area again I would certainly stay here again.
The Bush hotel is symbolic of Farnham itself: a once pleasant little town now over-extended, a bit run down and all rather unwelcoming. The Bush, I'm told, used to be a pleasant place to stay. Not anymore: not if you were hoping for a decent room for (quite a lot of) your money; or decent customer service; or a guaranteed parking space. We stayed for one Saturday night - having attended a family event locally - arriving at around 6.30pm. The car park was full: although the barrier still gave us entry and the "Full" sign was not illuminated. Once in it, the only exit requires a code to raise the barrier: which of course we did not have. My partner went into reception and asked for help. Dream on. Our problem, not the hotel's. Try and find a paying space somewhere nearby. Good luck. Next! The Bush website suggests rooms have been refurbished. Dream on. Having walked down endless corridors and managing stairs - no lift of course and no offer of help with bags - our room was in one of the tacky extensions. Furnishings were tired (to be polite) and the bathroom featured a tatty shower curtain older than the one in Psycho. The problem seems to be that the hotel has been over-extended with additional rooms but with neither commensurate facilities nor with a standard of service to match. Surely it is not beyond the wit of Mercure Group bigwigs to - for example - train staff in customer care; limit the parking area to residents; complete the refurbishment they claim. I'm afraid it seems to be. An American lady we encountered trying to heave her suitcase up the stairs gave the perfect verdict on the Bush. She rolled her eyes in disbelief. I couldn't put it better myself.
Very tired interior decor, whole hotel requires an upgrade. Noise can be heard from the next rooms especially the floors creaking. Reception Staff were a bit low on enthusiasm. Good location though. Not worth GBP 72.
Lovely old building but hotel rooms and service could be so much better! Attention to detail means a lot and costs little - we had a privileged room which should have included a trouser press It didn't. Free newspaper None offered. Hair Dryer Had to ask for one. Complementary soft drinks Yes but no bottle opener for the orange juice ! After the first night this was not restocked until we requested it and we seemed to lose a hand towel which never reappeared! Also empty bottle and can were not cleared away and the cleaning left a lot to be desired. This is all just bad housekeeping! I would like to say everything else was fine but really it wasn't Such a shame as the location in the middle of Farnham, which is a lovely old town is excellent and It has a very nice outside patio and garden area.
I stay here when on business in the area and overall it's not a bad experience. Prices up 20% since my last stay which is a bit rich. Room comfortable & clean. Staff friendly but hot food at breakfast was not hot, which was disappointing
