The room was comfortable offering the standard items including refrigerator, microwave and coffee. Coffee was available in your room as a make your own or in the lobby 24/7. The breakfast had a nice variety of items. The pool area appeared clean and well maintained. Front desk was pleasant and helpful. Impressed that their in room book provided a list of local restaurants including, type of cuisine, delivery able and detailed directions. Nice view of the I500 track and Canada as well as Lake State campus.
We stayed at this HI Express this weekend for hockey tournament. Overall, the hotel is in very good condition, and in a great location. Room was good, with comfortable beds. However, here's the downfalls... - try not to stay here the night of a Hounds home game. The hotel doesn't have enough parking for it's own rooms, let alone those patrons of a Hounds game that decide to park in the lot (as it is literally next door to the Essar Centre) - when we arrived on Friday, we were told some rooms were ready, but ours wasn't. Every other HI Express I've been to it's been first come first served, but this one runs on assigned rooms. Our room had a guest that had asked for a late check out which was granted even though the hotel was packed with hockey teams that night - the elevator is being replaced (which we knew), hence out of order...fortunately hotel is only 3 stories - hot tub was also out of order, so kids had one less place to relax after hockey games Overall a decent stay, but definitely better options in the Soo come a hockey weekend or the night of a Hounds home game.
When I stayed here the elevator was out of service, which wasn't that great coming with luggage and not being on the ground floor. The hotel offered staff to help carry the luggage on signs around the hotel, but not directly upon check-in. The room had an ok size, had a comfy bed and wasn't too noisy. I found it could have been a little cleaner, especially my bathroom. Wifi was free and worked fine. Overall I would consider this an average hotel in the HIE chain. The location is good when one wants to be close to downtown and the mall. But to be honest there are better hotels in the same price range in the Sault.
Everything you would expect from a HI Express. Clean, great service and close to everything. Walk across the street for the station mall. I was in and out for a quick visit but please with everything.
This hotel was great. went to check in and upgraded to a beautiful suite. The lady at the front desk ( Im sorry to say I never got her name) was helpful in answering questions about the area. This hotel is very nicely located, we were able to park our car and just walk about town.
Stayed for 1 night on business. The room was clean, the breakfast was good (was able to make myself "egg mcmuffins" and the gym (although just treadmills and some weights) did the job. The pool looked nice. The hotel is centrally located near the mall. I gave a presentation as well. I was a bit worried they wouldn't have any USB or HDMI cables to connect to my laptop but in the end they found one. A con: no hotel restaurant for dinner. But it's so easy to walk to nearby restaurants it doesn't really matter. Also there is no view. But for me, it didn't matter. Definitely not luxury but a pleasant stay.
It was quiet and clean; close to the border which is where we were going. Nice to have breakfast included. I had looked it up on my phone and got a rate, but called for directions. When she asked if I wanted to book I said yes and she quoted me a higher rate than the one on my phone! I booked using my phone.
The room was a good size, with 2 Queen beds, etc. Bathroom was quite good, with very adequate counter space. Location is great for those taking the Agawa Canyon Tour Train next day. An easy 10 minute walk to the station. (Outdoor) parking was free and adequate. Now the not so goods: The walls were paper thin. We could literally hear every spoken word next door, as if they were in our room. Fortunately, they went to bed by 10 p.m. But really! The thinnest walls ever in any hotel we have stayed in. The included buffet breakfast in the morning was, to be charitable, adequate. Certainly no better: mediocre eggs, no bacon (just sausage), mediocre selection of cereals & sticky buns, average coffee and very good orange juice. There were VERY few restaurants open within reasonable walking distance, and many of those downtown were closed on the holiday Monday. The 2 hotel restaurants within walking distance were simply EXCELLENT. But very pricey.
My husband and I stayed on the third floor and it was very quiet. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed (including a fridge & microwave). The king bed was comfortable. The WiFi didn't work on our phones but worked fine on a tablet. The complimentary breakfast was very good. All the staff we encountered was very pleasant.
Rooms are everything I wanted. Kuerig coffee maker in the room was unexpected. But the pillows were less than adequate. The pillow in the firm pillow case was so soft I wouldn't have it in my house. Hotel is within waking distance of the train station which was why we were there.
