Everything you would expect from a HI Express. Clean, great service and close to everything. Walk across the street for the station mall. I was in and out for a quick visit but please with everything.
This hotel was great. went to check in and upgraded to a beautiful suite. The lady at the front desk ( Im sorry to say I never got her name) was helpful in answering questions about the area. This hotel is very nicely located, we were able to park our car and just walk about town.
Stayed for 1 night on business. The room was clean, the breakfast was good (was able to make myself "egg mcmuffins" and the gym (although just treadmills and some weights) did the job. The pool looked nice. The hotel is centrally located near the mall. I gave a presentation as well. I was a bit worried they wouldn't have any USB or HDMI cables to connect to my laptop but in the end they found one. A con: no hotel restaurant for dinner. But it's so easy to walk to nearby restaurants it doesn't really matter. Also there is no view. But for me, it didn't matter. Definitely not luxury but a pleasant stay.
It was quiet and clean; close to the border which is where we were going. Nice to have breakfast included. I had looked it up on my phone and got a rate, but called for directions. When she asked if I wanted to book I said yes and she quoted me a higher rate than the one on my phone! I booked using my phone.
The room was a good size, with 2 Queen beds, etc. Bathroom was quite good, with very adequate counter space. Location is great for those taking the Agawa Canyon Tour Train next day. An easy 10 minute walk to the station. (Outdoor) parking was free and adequate. Now the not so goods: The walls were paper thin. We could literally hear every spoken word next door, as if they were in our room. Fortunately, they went to bed by 10 p.m. But really! The thinnest walls ever in any hotel we have stayed in. The included buffet breakfast in the morning was, to be charitable, adequate. Certainly no better: mediocre eggs, no bacon (just sausage), mediocre selection of cereals & sticky buns, average coffee and very good orange juice. There were VERY few restaurants open within reasonable walking distance, and many of those downtown were closed on the holiday Monday. The 2 hotel restaurants within walking distance were simply EXCELLENT. But very pricey.
My husband and I stayed on the third floor and it was very quiet. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed (including a fridge & microwave). The king bed was comfortable. The WiFi didn't work on our phones but worked fine on a tablet. The complimentary breakfast was very good. All the staff we encountered was very pleasant.
Rooms are everything I wanted. Kuerig coffee maker in the room was unexpected. But the pillows were less than adequate. The pillow in the firm pillow case was so soft I wouldn't have it in my house. Hotel is within waking distance of the train station which was why we were there.
My family and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express for three nights in September. The hotel is very typical of any Holiday Inn Express location. They have a swimming pool and fitness centre, we used both and had no issues. The rooms were clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. A complimentary breakfast is available every morning and it was standard breakfast fare....cereals, yogurt, two or three hot entree choices, juices, coffee, etc. Our biggest disappointment with this location was the accessible parking. For a hotel of this size, they had one accessible parking spot! Yes, we know they have an agreement with the city to use one of their lots and that's fine for standard parking but we believe there is a real need for more than one accessible parking spot.
The primary advantage of this hotel is its location in proximity to the train station for Agawa Canyon tours. You can walk to the train station from the hotel. It is also across the street from a small mall and Walmart. Front desk staff was helpful with some suggestions and overall there were no issues with the staff. The room itself is good, not fantastic, and in the mode of a Holiday Inn Express. Two areas I noted: There is only one chair in the room (the desk chair) so if you have two people, at least one has to sit on the bed. Access to outlets at the desk was not good as it was a power strip located under the desk that you would have to get on the floor to plug or unplug things. Our room also just overlooked the roof area with its heating and cooling units. You go here for proximity to the train station or you wish to be in Downtown Sault Ste. Marie.
I booked a room with a queen bed however Holiday inn Queen bed is a double or twin bed that was very small with a very uncomfortable mattress and lumpy pillows. This was not enough the doors are made to emphasize the hallways' noise. The first night the ice machine close by was making noise of a truck engine and everybody was going back and forth to the machine. We had to ask to get another room, the front desk staff were very kind and gave us another room. But this did not change the bed, mattress & pillow situation. We were there for 3 nights and didn't sleep all 3 nights. that was my worst hotel experience.
