We were twice in this hotel (one week apart) for an overnight stay. The first night we got a room on the second floor. We had booked ahead, but did not realize till after we got there that there was no elevator. We also had to enter from the back through a security door. Not very handy when you have your hands full with suitcases, bags and coffee mugs. But we managed to get everything upstairs without any accidents. However, the room was fine. Large, fresh, and squeaky clean. It had one queen bed, which was fine for us, but to our surprise it only had a night table and bed lamp on one side, even though there was plenty of room to have them on both sides of the bed. Very inconvenient if both persons want to read for a while yet in bed. The next morning we mentioned this at the front desk. We were told that all the rooms are like that, and that many guests had complained before. So, come on management, do something about that. The continental breakfast was fine. A little cramped, but the service lady was very cheerful and chipper, which brightened everybody's mood early in the morning. On the second stay we specifically asked for a room on the first floor. We got a room on the front with patio doors, so we could move the luggage straight from the car in the room. Again, a great room, but only one night table. Being on the front at ground level, we were a bit concerned about the noise level of the busy street right in front of the hotel. However, as soon as we closed the patio doors, we did not hear any street noise at all. So to sum it up, not a bad stay for a reasonable price.
Having travelled across Canada and through the USA and stayed in hotels, we found that the price for this hotel was too high for what it was. When I asked why it was so costly I was told that because of the tourists arriving to see the colours of the leaves the price went up for these two weeks. This is not the way to promote tourism for this area.
I was in Sault Ste. Marie in May for work and stayed at the Comfort Inn. Everything went smoothly and I was well taken care of. The breakfast atmosphere is one to behold and the staff do their best to try to make you feel at home. The only negative I had was after working through the night I had just gotten in to bed when there was a knock at the door. I was able to ignore that, but there was a call right after from the front desk. There was something at the desk for me, but having been up all night I fell back asleep. Got up later and found out there was a nice little present left for me from the manager (although I think I got a gift that was meant for a colleague who was going to be staying longer) but it definitely made me feel at home.
The first time I stayed there was Aug 1984 on business.I have tried other hotels none as CLEAN or staff that was so FRIENDLY. Need I say more since I have always stayed at this hotel for over 33 years. I usually travel to the SOO once a month
Very friendly staff. Breakfast was convenient. Room was a little musty and mattress lumpy. Get back facing room for quieter night. Location worked well as we were traveling around Lake Huron. Near many restaurant options. Staff sent us to a great Italian restaurant just down the street.
We stayed one night here and it was very nice. The room was clean and comfortable. The front desk was friendly and helpful. The price was reasonable. Not a fancy hotel but well worth the stay!! They offer free breakfast, which was quite good. They could definitely use a bigger breakfast area though. We had a nice time.
We often stay here on our summer drive between Ottawa and Thunder Bay. This year it’s been renovated and the price is up. Despite its location, with the busy Great Northern Road in front and a Lowe’s parking lot behind, the place has made maximum use of its limited outdoor space. The patio across the back has been made quite attractive, with plants and patio furniture, and there’s a small common outdoor seating area in front near the lobby, with more greenery. Rain barrels all along the ground floor are a nice environmental touch. Unfortunately, for some reason, a slope at the back which goes down to the Lowe’s parking lot and used to be grassy, has been totally paved over with asphalt. It’s hard to imagine why. When we were there it was raining hard and the water, with no ground to absorb it, gushed down, making large puddles on the asphalt parking lot. The usual room amenities are provided, including a fridge and microwave, as well as a water cooler near the lobby that provides a nice lemon-infused drink. The free breakfast is decent and presided over by the same uber-cheerful hostess who has been there for several years, greeting guests and singing from her melodious repertoire. All the rooms have “no smoking” signs on the doors and most – except for a section at the far end, also have “no pet” signs. Despite other signs warning smokers to keep away from the entrances, I passed by several huddled in the doorways – though that may have been because, as mentioned, it was raining hard. Overall, a decent value, though the Comfort Inn in North Bay provides basically the same experience (minus the outdoor furniture) for about $20 less, with a quieter location that is also very close to Lake Nipissing.
After a long day of driving, this was the 3rd hotel I called and by far the friendliest person on the phone! She was very helpful and able to get us 2 rooms, one whixh needed to be pet friendly. The hotel was clean and the beds comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was tasty. Would definitely stay here again, next time wit will be the first place I call!
The city hotels were booked up, however we managed to get one of the last rooms for the night when we got in around 11pm. The staff was incredibly helpful and cheerful!! The room was very clean and the shower had great pressure. The air-conditioning cooled the room perfectly. Free breakfast included scrambled eggs and bacon! We enjoyed our over-night stay. Our two kids (ages 7 & 10) used the pullout - they didn't complain about their bed.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and properly prepared. The breakfast buffet was very good, my traveling companion mentioned it several times. The location is a bit confusing to get to but I would definitely use this hotel again.
