An adequate hotel for a short stay. Rooms are spacious and clean but breakfast choices are somewhat limited. There are several good restaurants within a couple of minutes walk and some shops, including two supermarkets, within five minutes walk. Otherwise nothing to attract tourists to the location.
Spent two nights at beginning of Overseas Adventure Tour here and one night before catching flight home. Breakfast is good. Ice water and excellent Costa Rican coffee available 24/7 and fresh. Rooms, lobby and pool area all nice and good supermarket right across street. I did not try nearby restaurant, but heard others say it was good. Desk personnel prompt, courteous and helpful. I would stay again even though it is a bit of a ride from the airport.
The Holiday Inn Express Santa Ana is just what you'd expect from the brand. The staff are friendly & helpful and the property is well maintained, very clean and pleasant throughout. For the price it probably can't be beaten! Location is good, being close to a number of shops / restaurant, although I'm not sure there's anything touristy nearby (I was on business, 500yds down the road). The rooms are generally pretty basic, but inoffensive and functional - don't expect any frills. The hotel is close to the busy main road and the windows / insulation from the surroundings aren't brilliant, so it's pretty noisy in-room. I didn't sleep well due to both a piece of machinery on the roof below my window and the noise from the traffic on the road, so bear that in mind...... or ask for a room on the other side of the property. Breakfast is adequate, but I didn't try the restaurant in the evening. All told, it's a functional hotel and fine for the price, but don't expect any luxuries.
A little old & tired rooms, but clean & fresh. Hotel in convenient distance to the airport - great for staying one night before proceeding to other places Friendly staff. Good breakfast included in an already nice price. Nice pool
Overall I think you could do a lot worse, but frankly I wish we had stayed elsewhere. THE LOCATION If you have business or some other reason to be nearby, then the location is actually quite nice. There are a lot of nice restaurants within a very short walking distance. There is a very nice little grocery right across the street (a not very busy street). The street that the hotel is on is nice, and has nice houses on it. There were even more good restaurants within a quarter mile or so. There doesn't seem to be that much to do there. Plan to travel a bit for activities. THE ROOM The room was adequate. I will say it appeared to be clean, decently appointed if a bit short of what I would call nice. I feared the king size bed felt quite hard, but got a good night's sleep nevertheless. The bathroom was nice, liked the walk in shower, but with one glaring exception. The toilet is wedged in a corner, and I don't think any human could sit there normally. I am larger than average and felt like I was sitting sideways on it. Feedback from more average sized people was the same, have to sit a bit cockeyed. The AC worked, but the room often felt less comfortable than being outside, so I don't think it was working quite properly. The view was of a wall, terrible. We knew someone else staying in the hotel, who also had a view of a wall. BREAKFAST If you are used to free breakfast hotels in the United States, then I think you will be pleasantly surprised here. There is a selection of very good fresh fruit, WAY better than what I have had in the U.S. There are real scrambled eggs and a few other hot selections than varied over my two nights. They also have a few selections of cereal and yogurt. The coffee was good, Britt brand. The baked goods were also much higher quality than what I am accustomed to in a free hotel breakfast. They had a selection of four juices that weren't particularly good, so more in line with what I am used to in this level of hotel. SERVICE The service seemed overall to be in the adequate to indifferent range. Our first night there was a lot of noise from a large group of young people running the halls, yelling, and basically doing what I would have done at that age. We had a great deal of trouble sleeping. We complained the next morning, but really just got a stare in response. No offer to move us, no apology. Beyond that, there is no concierge or anything similar so they don't always have time to help you with questions etc. because they are handling check-ins or whatever. There is no restaurant on the property, but many good ones very close. CONCLUSION This place is fine, and may be the right choice if it is cheap and you are very budget conscious. I would stay here again, but I don't think it would be my first choice. It just feels a bit "budget" so if you are used to a bit of luxury you may not find it here.
We stayed at this hotel for one night between transfers. It is OK. Breakfast is included which had both hot and cold items available. There is a pool. Across the street is a market to buy groceries and a few strip malls with a variety of restaurants (the Indian restaurant is very good). The hallways can be noisy - if anyone is talking you can hear every word. I used AAA to book to get a better rate.
If you are traveling to Costa Rica to see its countryside and don't want to pay higher prices or stay right downtown, consider traveling outside to this suburban location. The breakfast that is included is generous and delicious, a fine introduction to food in a country whose best attributes do not include food. This Holiday Inn has a small gym, clean rooms, restaurants nearby and friendly staff within at moderate prices.
If you are planning a visit to Costa Rica, I would strongly recommend the Holiday Inn Express Forum at Santa Ana. There are several reasons; first and foremost, the staff there are real friendly and very personal. Dixiana and Priscilla at front desk are extremely cooperative and making sure that you are comfortable. Second, the other staff are wonderful too - The breakfast is superior - you get a taste of Gallo Pinto and Fried Plantains, local fruits and juices and Britt Coffee! Third - the location! It is so central and walk-able to several food chains and restaurants, sodas and Pops; there is a Fresh Market right across; Momentum Mall with a dozen or so restaurants pretty much open till late and so safe with security guards. Very ideal for daily trips to all tourist attractions.
simple room without minibar, but clean, with a big comfortable bed hotel which offers complimentary breakfast (not fancy, but good enough), a nice outdoor swimming pool a wide range of restaurants in walking distance, and a small supermarket. the front desks staff was really helpful and friendly
Stayed with my two year old son in December 2016 in this hotel. At 2:00 in the morning a complete stranger walked into my room. He was shocked too, and left. I dressed and went after him. He showed me his swipe card, same room number as me. My son was upset (didn't fall asleep untill 4:00), so I adressed the issue the next day. Didn't hear anything about it. The two nights I stayed, there was a party noise was supposed to stop at 11:00 and it didn't as mentioned in another review below. I spend numerous nights a year in hotels (with my son) feeling safe is important. Feeling heard when you adress a complaint too. Placing a family in a room next to the ice machine that makes a lot of noise, isn't a smart move either...
