We stayed at both Aloft and Fairfield near SJO, and Aloft was our favorite. The room was much larger, with a great shower, strong water pressure, and a better breakfast selection. It’s about 20 minutes from the airport (vs. 5 for Fairfield), but you can walk to plenty of restaurants and supermarkets in 10 minutes. We’d stay here again, especially for a short local shopping stop before flying out.

There is no airport shuttle (private car can be scheduled for $30) and the walls are thin. There was like karaoke going on in the lobby but our room was right above and it was so loud. Staff was nice and helped us but overall had an average stay.
