Over the years I have stayed in the Trapp Family Inn many times. It has always been a peaceful and refreshing experience. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The beds are comfortable and the accommodations meet and clean with a homey feeling of comfort. The staff are multilingual and attentive. I found breakfast on the porch/veranda looking over the trees and garden to be a great beginning to the day. The dinner menu, while limited provides ample opportunity to chose between pasta plates or meat dishes that are well prepared and tasty. I will continue to visit this "family" inn as I pass through San Jose. Thanks for all you do to make the visit special.

We stayed here for one night at the end of our tour through Costa Rica. The rooms are spacious as well as the bathroom. Everything is clean and neatly. It is in the middle of a suburb of San Jose. You don't get that feeling when you arrive at the reception. It is a peaceful place except for the noise of the planes taking of and landing. It it very close to the airport. So it is a good hotel to start or end your journey through Costa Rica. Had a great last Costa Rican breakfast here.

We landed at 1:30am and came here to rest up before heading to our resort. The hotel is in an urban area, but located off the road behind a gate. When we arrived a man handed us a traditional key and walked us to our room. That was it, no exchange of names, so check in was quick. The room was very old and had no toiletries. The bed was comfortable so we had a decent night of sleep. The breakfast was included and was very good. We found the staff to be friendly.

Hi guys, I will tell you why. It still is a stylish hotel. But our room, number 5 had no chairs. we had to put our clothes on the ground. The quality of food has extremely deteriorated. The diner. We got as a side dish fried bananas. The slices were completely black. Burned. My tilapia was salted several times. Not edible. The breakfast. A disaster as well. Last year we started with an abundant plate full of fruit. Now 4 slices of banana and a small piece of pineapple. The egg. No choice. We got (without ordering) scrambled eggs. I want fried eggs. Sorry sir, take it or leave. We will leave it. This was the last time. (I have informed my travel agent.) regards schliek

The hotel is located in a very sketchy part of town not in the airport hotel strip... When you arrive you feel you are in the middle of nowhere wile airplanes fly over your head. The rooms are full of insects with no hot water or toiletries, the pool is dirty and the owner is very rude and entitled. We just drove 4 hr and only wanted to relax in a room before our flight which was not possible so we ended up going to an other hotel which was closer to the airport, clean and with nice staff. We do NOT recommend, you will be sorry.

Stayed here 2 nights, calm peaceful with flowers, trees, birdsong and a lovely cat. What else, good service, good food. Recommend the pina colada, made with ice. Spacious rooms. It is about 15 minutes from airport, but no disturbance from planes. Makes a great stopover location. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

We loved our time at the Hotel Trapp Family Country Inn. The staff is courteous, professional, knowledgeable and everyone we encountered went above and beyond our expectations. They were very conscientious of accommodating our two young children. When we arrived in the evening close to the time the restaurant closed, the staff made meals for us and brought them to our room, room service style. They ensured we had early dinner reservations so that the kids' meals came out quickly. At breakfast when my 3 year old was upset, a staff member cheered her up by showing her a wooden crocodile toy and when we left in the very early morning, the kids were given bananas. We even left a very special stuffed animal behind and Karin took extra care to return it to us! The staff made leaving early a breeze by ordering us a van that was big enough for our group and even calling to check on it when it was only a few minutes behind schedule. There is a staff member/security guard on duty very early in the morning to accommodate guests with early flights. (The grounds are gated and a guard checks reservations at the gate). The grounds are well kept. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Our room had three beds in it to accommodate my family. We loved the ceiling fans and the french doors that opened out to the balcony overlooking the courtyard. As mentioned in other reviews, you would never guess that this cute B&B is in the middle of a city! It is truly an oasis! When we fly through San Jose again, we will be sure to book a stay with Hotel Trapp Family Country Inn!

Based on reviews and convenience to the airport, we booked 2 rooms at the Trapp Family Inn ahead of our trip. During our travels in Costa Rica we had a very bad accident that left one of our party in the hospital for the remainder of our trip. On our last night, another in our party stayed at the hospital to help her sister, so we only needed one room at the Inn. Their policy is a forfeiture of the room charge if a cancellation is made within 2 weeks of the reservation. But when I wrote to Karin Trapp (owner) and explained the situation (only one day prior to our stay, or even the day of), she was exceedingly gracious and understanding and let us cancel one room without penalty. The Inn staff were very helpful, even letting me use their phone to call the US to confirm the arrangements with Expedia (via which the rooms had been booked). The hotel was very comfortable and attractive, with lovely gardens, and a nice breakfast. Until a plane flies overhead you feel you're out in the countryside, not in a busy part of San Jose. At 6 minutes from the airport, what could be better before/after a flight? Thank you so much, Trapp family!

Hands down the best hotel to stay in after a flight. Friendly staff and a old world hacienda vibe all add to its charm. The rooms all have a balcony that face the lush well kept grounds and the food is classic tico fare. It is an oasis next to the airport.

Your first impression of this hidden gem most likely will be one of surprise, as you travel through some dubious looking neighborhoods in San Jose before turning down what looks like a country road and through the large gate into the resort. The facility has two buildings, which looks if they came out of a movie set in Morocco, or other 'exotic' places around the globe. The check in went smoothly, which is in the main facility, which has comfortable and pleasant lounges. We then went outside to our building which has a very gracious old and rich flavor to it. We did notice that the pool was closed for work on the tiles. The room was exceptional...very large with comfortable beds and a large washroom with a bath (pleased my wife). My first issue was with the old TV's. There was no way I couldn't get anything working. It took 2 staff members to get it working; however, when I turned it off, I never could get it on a gain, so gave up. The next issue was with the dinner. I ordered the most expensive dish...the rib eye steak after asking my server...the same one who checks you in...if it was good. I was assured they were. Well, to be frank, it was uneatable. I would have said something; however, after the dish was served we did not see the waiter again. No one asked us if things were 'okay' (I hate that question should be...'Is everything perfect'!). I thought that when the dish was removed I might have been asked a question as most of the mangled, grisly piece of steak was still on the plate...but nothing. So, what you will be thankful for is the proximity to the airport, which in San Jose is a big issue as their traffic is as bad as Bangkok's! You are only 10 minutes away. That's the good news. The bad news is that you suddenly feel that you are at the end of the runway of the Alajuela International Airport. Be prepared for the tremendous roar of the jet planes practically right over your head. One actually took off at 0230 hours..which virtually made me jump out of bed. It was good that we were here for one night only!
