Hotel Catedral Casa Cornejo3.0 out of 5.0

We were returning from Manuel Antonio and Quepos early. We decided we wanted to stay at San Jose for a night and maybe visit the city. I looked on Trip Advisor for a hotel close to the airport. Found the Catedral Casa Cornejo. Located next to the cathedral and looked like it would be to our liking. After checking in, we found the room a few feet from a busy street. We had an air conditioner that sprayed a fine mist and fell onto our bed. The bed spread was stained and one of the sheets were torn. Normally I would have left this type of environment, We were not in a normal situation and did not think ot sfafe to leave the hotel at night, I do not like to send a negative message about places I visit. Every person has a different perspective on what the see but I would recommend yaking a closer look at this hotel. The staff was friendly and it appears they are trying hard to build up their hotel and I think in a year or two they will accomplish a quaint little place.
There's no hot water in the bathroom, we arrived at night... I wanted to take a shower and I had to do it with very cold water. Sheets are stained, the tv its a joke(I thought it was a computer because of the size), Everything semmed clean but very old, in bed, my eyes got allergy. We were in the last floor and I couldn't sleep all night because there were doves on the roof walking around literally ALL NIGHT. Its a nightmare. And for the price, they can really do better. Pretty sure Im not coming back.
Stayed here while we waited for or flight. It was only one night so I won't be too harsh. Our room was right on the first floor in front of reception.. kinda weird. Would not stay here again. Tv was tiny! And you can hear everything outside. Bed sheets where soft tho. I did stay at better hostels than this place
AC not functioning, no fans, staff does not care, room dirty, bathroom dirty, the worst room we had in Costa Rica. The young man in charge did not seem to care at all. We had booked on Expedia, will not use this again.
We were extremely disappointed with our stay at this hotel. The room was only moderately clean, so we were unimpressed from the time we walked through our door. We went out for dinner and returned that evening to find that we had to walk up the three flights of stairs in complete darkness--no lights were on. The worst part of all was the obnoxious road noise. This hotel is located next to a hospital and sirens blared all evening and into the night. The road is busy, so when there was no ambulance, there was car noise. On the positive side, the people who worked at the desk were extremely helpful and friendly, and we did get a homemade breakfast in the morning. We would never consider staying in this location again.
Easy to reach from the airport, around 7 dollars in a taxi, and good for onward journey down to Manuel Antonio, friendly staff, very helpful and comfortable, clean rooms, at the price good value. Great Mexican restaurant just up the road also a bonus!
It was a small room, but totally clean and very close to the airport, and the guy at the front desk was very helpful. There was also free Wi-Fi and breakfast included, so it fit our needs to crash for the night.
No parking lot, no hot water, many lights weren't working in the room, the sheets were stained, AC unit barely worked and made all kinds of noises - just to name a few. Staff was pleasant and helpful and the room was cheap ($40usd)
My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights. it is half a block from the Central Park - the dead center of town. It has all the local charm you could want, but most important, was the manager - Chema (pronounced 'shay-mah'), not sure of the spelling, but what's in a name. Anyway, he worked from early mornings to late afternoon or early evening. A real character --- a great one. His English is excellent, a nice feature -- and everytime I came and went by his desk, we talked for 1-10 minutes -- each time learning something about how things happen in Alajuela... and other delightful times, for 20 minutes or so. He is very laid back, friendly, and helpful.
We needed a place to simply store our bags before leaving for a red eye flight yesterday evening and booked this place due to the location to the SJO airport. Let me just say that upon arrival -our view was barbed wire fences, graffiti, and an area that made me grip my purse just a little bit tighter. We walked in and was told that only 2 people could go upstairs at a time, at which we told the male desk attendant that we all simply needed to put our bags in the room and would be leaving. He then started speaking very roughly and rudely stating again that all of us COULD NOT go upstairs and asked what was my problem and why was I so upset. I began to explain that we were not staying there and only wanted to go upstairs to place our heavy luggage while we toured the area prior to our flight- he responded " I don't care what you want, the rules are the rules and this is MY country and you people will follow my rules." After I told him that this was unfair and we just wanted our money back He then told us that he refused to give any money back and to get out. Feeling very intimidated in this foreign country we left and went outside to call Hotwire to explain what had transpired. We sat on the cub in the rain for 30 min with large luggage not having a place to go. Hotwire is currently investigating this situation as all we are seeking is a refund for the unused room. I will make 2 recommendations that YOU should STRONGLY consider- 1-Hotwire should Not even have this rat trap as an option...it's not worth a full star rating and 2- if you are considering, I suggest you search for another option. This place makes the Motel 6 look like the Four Seasons! Stay away or the desk clerk might put you out or even threaten to harm you!!!
