This boutique hotel is located in a former family villa. Therefore, all the room are different and you will find yourself in a real maze with ancient photographs, objects, antiquities on the wall. The place does not have a swimming pool but two nice jacuzzis on the top floor. Our room was simply decorated but very confortable with a lovely private terrasse. The hotel has got a parking in front of it and is ideally located in a residential area of San Jose. We would definitely recommend to book a table at their restaurant which is know in the city as being a fine dining place with a very cozy atmosphere ! A perfect first or last stop in Costa Rica!
The hotel is very well located and the staff is polite and welcoming. They have a fantastic restaurant (mostly meat, but also has vegetarian/vegan options) with a nice bar and great decoration. Regarding the room, it was a little expensive for what it was, especially considering the size of it, though we did make a reservation for a standard room. For a short stay it is very nice, however, if you're planning for a longer stay there are cheaper options that might be more comfortable. If you want to treat yourself, go for it! Its a very nice stay :).
Stayed there for 2 nights. Hotel staff is very friendly, reception and greeting very corteous. Very nice and spacious rooms with good amenities. It's built in an old house so has a charm all it's own. The resturant and bar is really beautiful with all wood trims to match the old house. Location is good if you want to be close to San Jose city. Still, seems expensive given the lack of some mordern amenities, like a good gymn, pool etc. But would stay there again.
The patio has a certain charm and it’s nice to sit for breakfast and dinner. We had room 11 and 13 and I found it basic small rooms with a small 2 person bed. The food is ok, but I don’t understand that it’s on the best restaurant list. Service is top. We appreciate more the local cuisine than one with some European flavor. Breakfast was great (pancakes as well as granola and eggs). The bar above was empty and the one in restaurant is small. If we go again to San José I would choose another hotel to start our trip.
What a fantastic hotel! The rooms were spectacular; spacious, clean, and I loved the patio area. The sound of the fountain was awesome. The staff was very helpful and friendly, and the restaurant is the best. The menu has so many different options that you can eat here every night and have something completely different each time. And the food is exceptional! Excellent wine menu. Walking distance to the downtown museums. Close to the airport. Highly recommend.
The hotel was beautiful. Rooms were comfortable and attractive, with complimentary snacks, fruit and non-alcoholic drinks in the room fridge. Rooftop patio and hot tub was lovely. It was fun to explore the hotel and see the historical photos and charming courtyards with fountains. All staff were professional and friendly. Restaurant food was good - we had light items and desserts and breakfast. We were advised the neighborhood was not safe for tourists to explore after dark, so the next morning, we took an easy 15 min walk to the Mercado (central market) for souvenirs and food items. Wifi was free but slow in the rooms. We had 2 rooms for the 2 couples in our group (1 king bed in each) and a large suite (2 bedroom suite with 1 bathroom, 2 queens and 2 single beds) for the 6 teens in our group. All were lovely and comfortable.
This hotel was an overnight stop only after flying in to San Jose airport, check in was a pleasure, staff were great and we were given a free sours traditional drink on arrival, really good. The hotel is a converted Victorian mansion in downtown San Jose only 20 minutes or so from the airport. The building itself is a treat with plantings of tropical plants, huge flower arrangements and indoor fountains and we enjoyed exploring. The room was cozy and comfortable, we didn't use the air conditioning since the roof fan was quiet and kept the room nice and comfortable. Linking to the internet was quick and trouble-free. Our room had a small fountain just outside which we could turn on and off which was really relaxing. Since were leaving early the next morning the staff suggested a travelling breakfast which turned out to be a good option, ham and cheese croissant, apple, water and a few other items. Wake up call was on time. all in all a good overnight stay. One caution was not to walk the area after dark and I think this is probably good advice to tourists in any major city.
Amazing! Fantastic! From the moment we arrived at the hotel at 11pm, front desk was very pleasant and communicated perfectly. Welcome drink was mango nectar that was really good. The hotel is beautiful. I highly recommend the rooms with garden patio which we got. We had several questions to the front desk regarding our stay and about san jose and they were all so pleasant, friendly, and knowledgeable. They helped us out with our transfer transport and our tours. All of which worked great. The room amenities were good and the coffee/espresso machine was a blessing. We had breakfast twice and really liked it. Thick mango juice (almost like a shake)! We had a birthday dinner and we loved the tenderloin and lamb shank. The cheese platter was very good. We picked out a Bordeaux and the sommelier knew exactly what we were looking for and gave excellent input. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a romantic and quiet stay in San Jose. Overall this is excellent service and quality for good price I will definitely stay here again
We stayed for 2 nights at grano de oro after flying in from London. It was a great choice. The transfer is only 20 minutes and the hotel is a gem. Rooms are spacious and well maintained with plenty of storage space. We had rooms on the ground floor that gave onto an interior court yard. The hotel was quiet and an easy walk into the central market. The restaurant is excellent as is the breakfast. Jacuzzis on the roof are fun.
Thought this hotel would be more posh, the bedding/room options are nice but standard - not really representative of the price - however, they’re vegetarian food options were incredible. Still one of the best meals I’ve had in Costa Rica - ate there breakfast, lunch and dinner and lunch and dinner options were outstanding.
