Located quite close to the centre but not noisy at all, with friendly staff and a nice garden which gives the surrounding rooms a chilling feel in winter... and with no heating you need a good number of blankets to keep you warm in the middle of December. Our room was not very spacious but clean and comfortable. There is no parking space nearby (normal in this colonial city thankfully not adapted to modern traffic) but they will escort you to a parking lot a few hundred metres away where you can leave your vehicle safely. We had to travel very early in the morning and they kindly prepared some hot coffee to keep us warm. No luxuries but clean and well kept.
The only thing worth seeing is the beautiful and very well kept garden. The rooms are average, phone never worked, no heating in the room, and we had issues with the water boiler that were never fixed, I was even suggested to shower in my friends room! Not cool, man, not cool. Budget hotel, super close to downtown.
We recently stayed in hotel jovel during a visit to the state of Chiapas. We used San Cristóbal as our base in Chiapas as we took day trips to other towns. The hotel is clean and nice, and the staff is friendly and helpful. However, the rooms get very cold in the winter since they lack insulation and the hotel will charge you 200 MXN per night to rent a heater. I found that to be ridiculous. The phone in our room did not work and we reported that to the staff and they said it would be fixed that day, and five days later when we check out, the phone did not work. Our TV was in the same boat, the set was from the 90s and the signal was terrible. To top it off, the remote did not work. We reported that as well and that was never fixed. Granted we did not go to San Cristóbal to make phone calls or watch TV all day, but it is nice to be able to call the front desk, and watch TV to relax before bed. This is a budget hotel, and you get a budget experience. I must say, the people that worked there were great and they let us leave a bag over night when we we stayed in another town. Bring your own space heater or a beanie, and you will be okay. I would recommend this hotel to people that plan on being out and about most of the day and only need a room to store their belongings, sleep, and shower.
No heat in this hotel Just a big pile of blankets nice garden inside the building and on the roof location good But lacking of service and Very cold during the night. We had some issue with water They didnt Fix.
We came to this hotel sister for the Axkan since we need to move from one hotel to the other because no more vacancy and even the Jovel have decent rooms are far away from the AXkan . Rooms need more interior light since the windows don't bring enough outside light. Customer service is excellent. The hotel provides heat ONLY if you pay extra daily since the electricity is expensive but nobody tells you tht when making the reservation. Wii-fi mainly doesn't work on your room alleast you are close to reception. The hotel provides a close parking at not charge and someone always walk with you. The hotel has a nice inside patio.well kept .
Beautiful hotel, a couple of blocks from the downtown square, highly recommended, the employees are awesome great service! The rooms well maintained, clean towels & linen, it is always nice to see the owners at all time, Will come back soon!! ;)
My husband and I stayed at Hotel Jovel for 5 nights in a pretty corner room on the 3rd floor. It had outside windows on 2 sides and was very comfortable, bright and cheery (some rooms opened on the inside corridor). It had great WiFi in the room and plenty of blankets. The interior garden was beautiful with nice places to sit and we had a great terrace on our floor for pre-dinner drinks. The staff was friendly and helpful and we just loved staying here.
Very pretty place, with rooms surrounding a pretty courtyard. We stayed here as we wanted somewhere with parking facilities. The views from rooftop were lovely. San Cristobal is freezing, and the rooms were cold. But had extra blankets in the cupboard. Would've been nice to have an option for a heater. Apparently, they do have heaters for hire but we only found out about that the next day. Breakfast available (not included in price) was good, freshly prepared, tasty and good portion size too. However as only one person serving/cooking, can imagine it can be slow if lots of people. We were one table of 3 and were served quickly. Good wifi connection from the terrace outside room. Rooms are small, but tastefully furnished. Service was good, but you had to press for this, rather than automatically given. Good location.
Look-- if you haven't done anything outside of Mexico besides Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, Cabo, etc, and you expect similar lodgings-- best pony-up and get a room at your familiar chain-- can't remember if it's Best Western or Holiday Inn or whatever. If you want a decent room at a decent price that's a couple of blocks off the main walks (which is nice as there is considerably less noise) then this is your hotel. Still, I regret booking so many nights in a row and not negotiating a better price-- if you like negotiating, there are plenty of hotels and if you're not going at peak season, you'll save. But for me, who took his whole family (parents in their late 60s, young teens) this was a solid choice. Clean rooms (my mom loved the origami towels), a beautiful courtyard, decent coffee, and good access to the core of San Cristobal. Shop around for local tours/adventures-- their prices are higher, and VERY IMPORTANT: if your Spanish sucks-- you might give it a lower mark (as their English isn't too good)-- I'm betting those folks that gave this place an awful mark can't speak the language.
Food is expensive and not good at all, the room had a black water smell and they didn't do anything with my complain. I booked 4 nights and in the third one they told me that my room was booked so I had to leave the hotel sooner and stayed at the hostal. Tours were not ok because they didn't booked for me most of them I had to complain again. I don't recommend this hotel at all. Sorry but was my worst experience in Mexico ever
