Overall we had a wonderful stay. It was our honeymoon and we were greeted with champagne and strawberries once we checked into our room. The hotel and grounds were very clean and well kept. Unfortunately, a few places were under construction because they had been damaged by a storm, but it didn't take away from our experience. We loved the staff! They work so hard and always had a smile on their faces. Especially the entertainment crew at the pool and the bartenders. If you tip them at the beginning of your trip, they will take care of you! The only bad experience we had was that we were bombarded after check in to commit to a presentation about buying timeshares....not a great way to be welcomed after a 12 hour travel day. We also loved the wildlife on the grounds of the hotel! If you are an animal lover, you will enjoy this! The beach that is attached to the hotel isn't very big, but we were able to walk along the beach front of the hotels that were near by.

It was a very nice experience. The staff very kindless only one problem they should stop boring the clients trying to sell tours and others things I know they are trying to help us but sometimes it's to much...

Having stayed at other resorts we tried Ocean Maya, the reviews on here were good so we thought we would trust all the good reviews. A few things that no one mentions on a review that I will share. Staff: they are great staff but I can see they are over worked which leads to tired staff. They only will have 1 waiter or waitress on outside around the pool and the beach. So with only one you must be ok with always getting up to get your drinks. If that doesn't bother you then you will be happy here. Smoking: I have never been to a resort that seems to have 70 to 80% of people smoke. Everywhere outside seem to always have people smoking. Beside you at the pool, on the beach lounger and even in the middle of the resort lobby outside you must walk through the smoking area. If you are a smoker then you will love this place, if you hate the smell of smoke then you will have a horrible time. Rooms: The rooms are older and a little outdated which is fine, your on vacation and should be outside not in the room. However they have zero screens on the windows and patios so the rooms have a musty smell since they are never left open. You can't leave them open cause at night you will end up with mosquitos in the room like we did plus other little insects. So everytime you walk into your room you get hit with a musty locked up smell. Overall just fixing these simple little things would make the resort a lot better. Food was ok, not bad but nothing special to wow you.

The grounds are very well maintained with lots of plants/shrubs/trees and even wildlife. The rooms are clean and modern. Retaurants are awesome with friendly, helpful staff. The entertainment staff keeps people active with various activities. My only disapointment was the lack of beach volleyball games. There is a nice beach volleyball court, but the entertainment staff does a poor job of scheduling/promoting games. I would like to play twice per day, in the AM and PM.

We are not very demanding vacationers, so believe us when we say: We had a truly "Wow" experience. Everything was top notch - from check in to check out, all inclusive. Food, drinks, service - everything that you would expect from a top notch resort and more. Vincent at the buffet was particularly great - best in class! This is definitely a resort we will come back to again and again.

We tried all of the restaurants and were amazed at how great the food was at all of them. Huge variety, you have to try the Japanese Hibachi style one (the only one that needs a reservation). Try to get any room not the 24s... those rooms are close to the septic tank and it smells terribly awful! All other areas are fine. Very comfy bed and room size, amenities were awesome. I love loved that this was adults only, I have kids but wanted a few days sans the kids and this was a perfect place. The only thing I would highly suggest is for music later than 10pm (we found ourselves bored after 10). Oh and this is not a great beach area. Pool was great, drinks and food all A+. If you want a nice beach - travel outside to nearby Cozumel or Isla Mujeres.

We have stayed at several resorts in this area over the years. This one would top our list. The property is well kept, the staff are all incredibly friendly and the food was very good. Each of the specialty restaurants had excellent menus and the buffet was pretty standard. Our only complaints would be not enough seats at the pool and the drinks weren't great. If you got up early and saved seats at the pool before you had breakfast you were fine, but if you slept in you wouldn't have a chair. The bartenders were great, but all the juice they use is on tap and had an odd after taste that really ruined the drinks. If you stick to cerveza, wine or hard liquor with soda it was fine. Overall we had a great time.

Overall great experience. Great restaurants, great view of the ocean, and excellent staff. When we first arrived, the room was clean with the exception of the bathroom. The bathroom looked as if it had just been used. Other than that, no complaints at all.

Hotel and staff we're great! Beach was not all that too much sea weed & dark water. Mosquitos were terrible!

The hotel staff is not friendly. They act like everyone in the staff is doing you a favor by serving you. They are always trying to sell you something, the food is horrible. Stay away.

Horrible experience with mosquitoes in our room we complained to management who came and sprayed and they were supposed to move us to a new room but accidentally gave our room out! So we had to stay in our room full of mosquitoes we had several bites all over our body on a vacation! We will never return!

they were overbooked 1 night at sister hotel and for compensation we were upgraded tp privilege Wonderful staff many thanks to front desk manager Gentre, and Ramone they were awesome

we were very pleased and would go again, the food and staff were great

Everyone at OMR was extremely friendly and helpful toward us during our entire stay. Drinks were brought to us on the beach, by the pool, and out on the terrace area every evening. All the employees had smiles. The beach is gorgeous and very relaxing. They offer plenty of water sports for guests, as well. Our room was always clean, with housekeeping coming in every day. The ONLY thing that wasn't my favorite was how much the staff pushed for us to listen to a presentation on their Privilege program, and how much they tried to sell us water sport/excursion/spa packages while we were trying to relax on the beach. However, I know they were just doing their job and you'll have this at any type of resort most likely, and they all graciously accepted when we said, "No thank you," and moved on with a smile. I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone looking for a great place without kids around. Our stay was for our honeymoon, and it was wonderful not having kids running around everywhere. We plan to return to OMR as soon as we can!

All of the vacations we have taken to Riviera Maya, we have never been treated differently. Ocean Maya Royale, an H10 property, is unlike any other place we have stayed. We were approached by staff and greeted, escorted to the registration desk where we were promptly told check in was at 3 pm and would not be given a room until then. We were given an appointment for the following morning to meet with an associate for about 1 1/2 hours and for sitting through the presentation we would receive $100. We requested a king bed in a room on the first floor due to the difficulty I have climbing stairs. The room we were assigned was on the third floor (elevator out of order) and had two double beds. Our room was changed the following day at 3 PM, check in time though we still had separate beds. We attended the rescheduled presentation. An hour and a half became 3 hours and this was indeed a sales pitch, even though "time share" may not be the correct term. The Privilege program presented basically does away with the use of travel agents and the folks who have bought in receive preferential treatment. We also never saw the $100 incentive. Food in the buffets was warm at best. Do not expect to eat in the hibachi area of the oriental restaurant, unless you are privileged. The beach was a disappointment. Not much of it and the staff couldn't keep up with the seaweed. All in all a very poor experience. Will find another resort for the coming year!

After reading A LOT of reviews, we were questioning what the resort would be like. We went for our Honeymoon and honestly, we would not have changed a THING! Which is what prompted me to write a review... I don't know what people are talking about in their reviews; staff is amazing, service if great, the resort is beautiful. Nothing disappointed us. DO NOT sign up for Privilege; it is a waste. We were treated to almost all of the Privilege services without being. Our room was also RIGHT on the water when Privilege rooms are near the lobby. I feel the Ocean Front Deluxe is the best bet. All alcohol was still name brand. There is plenty of beach frontage. The seaweed was not bothersome and staff cleaned it off the shore when necessary. We walked quite a ways down the shoreline and noticed that Ocean Maya was BY FAR the nicest compared to others we saw. No reservations were needed for any of the restaurants like some complained about. We never had an issue just walking in. And staff were always eager to assist if anything was needed or disliked. We stayed Dec 10th - 16th. Again, we LOVED out trip and the resort. We would definitely stay again without hesitation and have absolutely no complaints. Oli, one of the lobby bartenders was great and very entertaining :)

this was one of the best places I have stayed at.the food was good the people were great..i will go back there..

Hotel was more than I could ever imagine, service was impeccable.. plenty to do there I loved every minute. Great place great atmosphere. Would definitely do it again. Perfect for a romantic getaway.

Hotel, staff, food/beverage were great. Beach was a huge disappointment. Did go in to beach once as it was very dirty w/seaweed. Not the beautiful aqua water viewed in website pics. Hoping it was due to storms they had a few weeks before we arrived & not always that way.

The beach area was disappointing, as was the ocean. The pool wasnt refreshing at all. We played volleyball the entire time which made our time enjoyable. The food was okay, nothing spectacular. The specialty restaurants were disappointing, so we ate in the main buffet most of the time. The staff and the guests are what made this trip actually worth it. We opted not to do the privilege upgrade and that seemed to be the best decision as others that did do that were unhappy with it. It was nice that they did a show every night, but other than that there isnt much to do. We enjoyed our time here, but given the choice to go back, we would choose to stay somewhere else.
