Grand Hotel Reykjavik

Short 6 night stay in Reykjavik. The hotel is somewhat far from a lot of the restaurants and bars but it has everything that you could need there. The rooms were very basic but had the essentials and were clean. The breakfast had a lot of selection.

Freakin loved everything about this gorgeous hotel but mostly it was the staff. Super nice staff!!

The hotel was a bit of a walk to downtown (2.5km) but the space was beautiful and the rooms were clean. The bed was really comfortable and the staff was nice!

Bed was very uncomfortable and low to the floor. Can't get good night sleep. My room was faced on the main road. It was noisy form the traffic and people from parking lot, Didn't enjoy staying at this hotel. Only thing good was the breakfast.

Had a great stay. Friendly staff, great location. Definately stay there again.

Hotel was big and modern, the lobby was gorgeous and room was large. The staff was friendly for the most part, the front desk staff not nearly as eager to help as the restaurant staff. A few things that took away from the hotel - 1) The parking was horrendous both Friday and Saturday night. I was forced to circle around the parking lot a good 10-15 minutes both nights before a spot opened up! 2) It sounded like there was a night club directly below us booming both nights. I didn't complain because I stay up late anyway but if I were trying to sleep it would have been impossible. 3) The rooms have no alarm clock, no robes and no slippers. The slippers and robe add a sense of luxury which would go a long way but the alarm clock (or clock in general) should be standard. 4) We ordered room service Satruday evening, and asked for two drinks. We didn't receive either but were charged for both. They reconciled in the morning. 5) There was an additional room service charge that we did not order on our tab which we had to have resolved. Luckily it was brought to our attention by a lovely woman named Fey, during our breakfast. I assume she was a restaurant manager. She noticed the charge on her own and thought it was a mistake, so she came over and informed us. I thought that was impeccable customer serivce on her part! 5) The bed wasn't that comfortable and the blanket was small and did not cover both my husband and myself. I had to sleep in a sweat suit! I also didn't feel like it was very clean.. There was a hair on the pillow when we first checked in. Positives- -The gym was nice and all the equipment was super modern! -The lobby is impressive and great to hang out and have dinner or some drinks. -The breakfast buffet was great! (Additional cost) -Wifi worked great. -Great location not too far from anything and close access to the 1. I will most likely look for another hotel during my next visit.

Very good hotel for the price. We didn't want to stay in a hostel. It is a bit of a walk from the shopping area downtown but most of the tours will pick you up at the hotel so it wasn't a big deal. Free Breakfast was a bonus. The staff was awesome and very helpful. I broke the handle off the door on the first day and they moved us no problem. I would stay here again.

Spent six nights on vacation. Highly recommend this hotel. No negatives. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff (couldn't figure out hot water valve first day, within two minutes someone came to room ...very impressive!) Very good (and fresh) breakfast. Unadvertised gem was the park/botanical garden w/ indoor/outdoor swimming open to the public two blocks away. Well built hotel. Tile and chrome bathroom, not plastic. Loved Iceland, such a civilized, safe, clean country. How people should live.

excellent location and very comfortable stay. Breakfast was great too

There was a not short waiting line when we checked in. The hotel is a little bit away from the central town. It won't be a problem if you rent a car. Breakfast is ok.

Location of the hotel is not good. Rooms are small, breakfast is the same leftovers everyday.

Great customer service clean rooms great breakfast

First of all, my giving staff 2 out of 5 is not fair. Some of the stuff were perfectly nice, some were fantastic, but some were straight rude and impolite. The gentlemen at the bars were an example for that. Not feeling welcome and being ignored is a little but to much for my taste. Breakfast was great, even a organic variety of stuff, espresso and other coffee specialties available. I am no fan of the generic scrambled eggs, but this days that seems to be a standard. A word as a warning. The rooms that look onto the atrium are extremely loud. poeaple come back home late or leave early, and you will be live there, hearing everything. Or people will smoke on the balcony and have a nice coughing session, it's all yours. Again, beautiful house, bit pricey, great breakfast, some really nice staff, some really rude stuff, clean well located.

I stayed at the hotel for 5 nights while attending Eve FanFest. It's a bit of a walk to city center (took about 30 mins or so to hike to HARPA) but was a good way to see the city and scenery. I absolutely loved the hotel. Very comfortable room, excellent shower, great breakfast selection. Hotel staff was great and let me check in several hours ahead of normal times to catch up on sleep.

I spent a 2 day layover period at the Grand Hotel and I'm glad I did! The hotel was very comfortable and the staff was professional, friendly and accommodating. There is a restaurant in the hotel which is a bit pricey but very good. They also offer a limited room service menu. They offer what would basically be a happy hour menu in the atrium of the hotel prior to the restaurant opening for dinner. They also offer a buffet lunch as well as complimentary breakfast which was a big plus. Tours pick up right from this hotel which was very convenient and they also book tours if needed. The one con of this hotel is that it's a bit further away from the city center but in warmer months, it would be a comfortable walk.

Hotel in quiet area away from downtown, which is about 5 minutes by car. Spacious, impressive lobby with friendly, helpful reception staff. Room located on 4th floor in old hotel section (versus newer tower area). Upon entering room, one nightstand light bulb was out & was never replaced. The TV didn't turn on at times & occasionally channels would suddenly cut to black. Out of two heaters in room, one was completely inoperable, while the other's dial would only turn up halfway. While showering, water oscillates between hot & cold & doesn't stay at constant temperature. Kleenex box in bathroom was not replenished. These flaws should have been fixed by hotel staff before guests were booked into the room. The furnishings although clean seemed dated with lots of wear and tear. A bit of a disappointment in the bathroom: all-in-one soap/shampoo/body wash lotion dispensers instead of individual soap bars, shampoo bottles, etc. These dispensers were at first hard to spot. Aside from these negatives, the beds were comfortable; the room air was fresh & clean. The best feature of the hotel was the free breakfast buffet: the culinary offers were extensive, including eggs, sausage, bacon, baked beans, miso soup, fruit, cereal, fresh vegetables, cold cuts, cheeses, yogurt, breads, juices, coffee, tea. Staying here was a good initial, affordable hotel stay for our first time in Iceland. For our next trip to Iceland we will try other hotels.
