I booked four berth but two of our four persons opted out. We kept the apartment despite having the option to cancel very late. The 4 berth was nice for two of us but I wouldn't recommend for four if staying more than a couple of nights as I imagine there'd be fights over sleeping arrangements! The beds were comfy and the hosts very helpful however one or two damages in the apartment let it down (and the size of the towels provided) although the linen was clean and facilities very nice otherwise. The apartments were quite close to the centre, we walked into the city everyday. Tour operators pick up from this location which was very helpful.
Not sure where to start but I paid over 900 Euros for 4 nights which is a bit less of my monthly rent in London but as you may know Iceland is not cheap. - The room was very mouldy especially around the windows (see pics), stuffy and not properly cleaned (there were lots of hairs from previous guests behind the door). Most of the cushions had stains, or hairs on them. However bedlinen was clean and the room had enough space. - There were mud marks in the wardrobe and on one of the cushions. There were also quite a lot of marks on the wall - The toilet sink was cracked and the toilet seat was loose. Kitchen sink needs fixing too. As a few have mentioned, the shower floods. The shower head does not stand and it is broken (fixed with tape) on top - No double glazing but noise from the main road is not too bad at night. Walls are thin, though and you can hear everything (kettle boiling, neighbours chatting) and there was quite a lot of noise from the corridor as guests were coming in and out. There are early flight arrivals and departures and the airport is 45 min away. The lift is old and noisy so avoid staying in rooms 4 to 7 as they are close to the lifts. Bear in mind that when people do the northern lights tour they get dropped off at around 1am. I was disappointed as I had stayed in self serviced apartments in the past and expected a much pleasant experience. The concept is good though. You do not see any staff but there is a phone you use to contact them on the 4th flloor where you collect your keys (check in is at 3pm but sometimes rooms are ready in advance and you will find an envelope with your name and the keys to your rom inside). There is also a room where you can leave your luggage near the lobby. Before you arrive you will get an email with the code to open the main door and luggage room. The place is roughly 35 min walking to the bus terminal and 25 to the town centre On the plus side, the room has wooden floors (shame they were not properly cleaned), the kitchen is fully equipped with cuttlery and crockery, pots and pans and a microwave, kettle, coffee machine (but no coffee or tea bags provided) and small fridge and electric hove.
On arrival we were fairly impressed. Our keys were ready on the shelf at 1pm, so we let ourselves in early. Room (7) was fine for two of us staying 4 nights- although twin beds pushed together for a couple wasn’t great! Free parking, free WiFi, TV showed English channels and kitchen fully kitted out. Sadly there were negatives. The bathroom was tiny, and the shower immediately flooded the bathroom. Biggest problem was how thin the walls are. We were in between 2 rooms and the noise was quite horrendous. We could hear the people next to us using their knife and fork on their plates! If the guests are considerate then it might not be so bad. Unfortunately none of our neighbours were very considerate and we were kept awake most nights. Outside noise at a minimum though. Considering it was -3 outside we found the room too hot, even with turning the heating off. Plenty of good to balance out the bad, if you intend to be out most of the time then this will do nicely.
Nice hotel/apartments. The concept is great, no one attends the place, but your keys will be ready when you get there. Very quiet area. Rooms were nice, basically stocked apartments. We had a triple, it was perfect. Be warned, the hot water is geothermal, so you will have a smell of sulfur from the shower, it is normal! There aren't many things around the hotel. It is a bit of a hike to the city center, but the walk is easy and simple. There are a few restaurants around the place, but to be honest, it is better to walk the 1 mile into the city center or take a cab.
As everyone is aware, Iceland can be very expensive. Stay Apartments was great for us as first of all the apartment is not too far from the city centre and there is a hop on hop off bus stop 10 mins away. Also if you want to save money you can go to the local supermarket and stock up on food. As there was a kitchen which had everything you needed to cook, it became really useful and we did actually cook whilst we were there. Also to note the apartment was in good condition.
We slept there in 4 for two nights and we found it a good place to be chosen in order to visit Reykjavik. It is in a quiet place 10 min on foot far from the city center. Our apartment had a small kitchen and a small bathroom, sufficiently clean. There is the elevator (the apartments are at the 4th floor) and free parking.
We stayed in this apartment for a week. We had done our research in advance, so we knew that for four women hotels were expensive and limited. It was small but we managed and really were not in the apartment much during the day. The shower was small, but we made it work. The owners are prepared and offer luggage storage if you arrive before check-in, there is a supply closet, and a nice communal sitting area for a change of scenery. We were in Reykjavik when there was a "heat" wave", in the 60's, which was nice outside but made the apartment stuffy - a fan would have been a nice touch. All in all, we were pleased!
We stayed here for three nights in May. Stay Apartments are located convenient to downtown but also are in a great location to easily get out of Reykjavik. Our unit was roomy and clean. Our view of the bay and mountains was magnificent. There is a gas station/convenience store just a few steps away. Parking was plentiful and safe. Loved our stay at Stay Apartments and would come here again!
Stayed here on a business trip for 4 nights and loved it. Might be a bit of a surprise to British travellers but did not see a staff member in all that time and I loved it. What happens here is you are given a code to get in the door from the parking at the front, then up in the lift to floor 4 where keys and instructions await. The rooms are clean and bright with cooker sink etc. Loo shower and very small bathroom sink. I had room 9 with great views over the city. The rooms are not serviced at all which I liked. I am capable of straightening a duvet in a morning and the beds are very comfortable. Satellite Tv including BBC channels was in each room. Iceland is not cheap to visit, dinner for 1 is about £50 and hotels can be expensive. The Hilton where I was attending a conference was North of £300 a night and this was across the street at a third of the price which made it good value for money and handy location to get to the main roads to go and explore Iceland
Brilliant for the cost! It's ALL you need! bog standard essentials, all self catering. it's perfect location - 5-10 mins walk into the town reykavik. Taxi is expensive otherwise and it's pure lazyness so just walk if you can. it's so weird in here, enter the apartment and have to get the lift to 3rd floor or take the stairs. you find the envelopes on the shelf with your name on it, thats the keys inside. so funny! standard room, OK not like the photo I saw when booking (alot smaller) but doesn't matter as it did us ok. Just the job, all you need for 2 nights stay. Couldn't ask for better view, out the front! so we can see our hire car. plenty of spaces! perfect. Just suggest having a snow shovel outside I said on the feedback card as we got snowed in with the car and we had to use other things to plough the car out. thanks. Thank you so much for having this apartment owner, keep it open and keep the price low as it's perfect. we will come back here if we ever come to Iceland again.
