Friendly staff, wonderful large room that was the quietest hotel room we've ever had, a simple but elegant continental breakfast with healthy choices, and a comfortable bed. No pool or hot tub or other luxuries, but the essentials were perfect. Free and easy parking (not at other hotels in downtown Portsmouth) was what got us there in the first place, but we'll return because of the whole experience again.
Located in a fantastic historic house and tastefully decorated.
Very cool old style New England hotel with all the modern upgrades. Rooms were clean and spacious, staff was very friendly and the common room setup was great. Location was very close to all things Portsmouth, we rarely used our car the entire weekend. A great option that we'll be using again when we visit Portsmouth.
The staff was great. It is a "quaint" establishment, very historic. No exhaust fans in the bathrooms is a bit of an issue and limited power outlets. Overall, if you want to be downtown and don't care about how much you spend, it is good.
Old, unique building but extremely clean and updated. Charming place.
Great location, comfortable beds, great breakfast, fun common spaces! Only downsides were that the room was very hot without a lot of temperature control options & sounds from the hall & other rooms were a little loud. But overall, definitely recommend!
I have lived near Portsmouth for many years but had reason to stay over there recently and I chose the Hotel Portsmouth because it is right in town and near restaurants, cultural activities. We spent only one night, but we were pleased with the experience. The room was thoughtfully set up with lights, tables, and even a bedside Ipad. Overall, a quiet place, with plenty of on-site parking out back. My only criticism is that coverage of the front desk was minimal. When we arrived we had to wait about 10 minutes to check in because the clerk was on the phone for a long time, then helping other guests, and when we were leaving (9:30 AM) there was nobody in sight at the desk.
We were there for a single night getaway. Close to the old downtown area. Well situated.
