We only stayed one night, but it was great!! Only negative was that the attached restaurant (and many others in the area) are not open Sundays - which was the day we were there.
I would not stay here again. The staff was not friendly at all. Waited to check in for about 5 minutes while the one staff at reception was on the phone. The room was not the one we booked & when I pointed this out, they offered to switch us to a different room for another $100!?! We listened to the sound of traffic all night because our room faced the busy road and not the lake which is why we stayed there in the first place. The "free" breakfast was worse than McDonald's. I ordered the quiche and it looked & tasted like it was frozen, then thawed in a microwave.
If you're looking for a hotel with something special, this is it! Be prepared to forgoe the joys of a tv and refrigerator in your room though. The inn's historical feel is apparent right from the get go. It's beautifully taken care of and offers a great, welcoming feel.
Greeted by great staff but after that it was downhill: the room was sadly worn spread and sheets, lose headboard, saggy matress and road construction traffic noise that started at 5:30 AM. Very basic amenities of shampoo /soap, but no lotion or shower cap or sewkit. Dinner was to be Morel white fish but arived with no morels. When pointed out to the staff they said "oh the chef must have forgot.." While the fish cooled they went to the kitchen and came back in a few minutes with a bowl reconstituted dried morel slices mixed with alot of mixed veggies that were over cooked and out numbered the slices of dried truffles 20/1. By then the fish was cold. The staffed offered to give us a free dessert but not to remove the morel fish dinner from the check even though it was not what was discribed on the menu and had not been eaten. When we pointed out our disappointment to the assitant manager we got a shrug and "sorry".....having traveled the world I have never seen such lack of customer service in an establishment heralded as "worldclass." We tried to be tackful and point the shortfalls as pleasantly as possible and out of earshot from the other guests and not be the ugly tourist but the management just donesn't care
The Stafford Bay View Inn is the ideal place to stay while visiting Petoskey or Harbor Springs area. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food is delicious and the rooms are uniquely decorated and comfortable. Their soaps and the touch of homemade cookies daily are an added touch of hospitality.
They didn't have all of our rooms. It was my daughters wedding weekend, ended up having to go to another hotel. Will never book through either places again.
