The Gilded was an amazing boutique hotel. Every detail was perfect from the gourmet breakfast to the fluffy towels. The front desk staff was kind and accommodating. Loved sitting on the outdoor patio relaxing with a book and a chocolate chip sea salt cookies. Would stay again anytime I return to Newport.
It was advertised as a boutique hotel. It cost the same as a five star resort. It was quite run down in parts and very badly finished. The common areas reminded me more of a hostel! And the sheets were some kind of microfiber, not cotton. The outdoor areas, which included a fire pit and seats were covered in grime and didn't look as if they were ever used. I didn't eat the breakfast so I can't comment about that. It's on a very run-down street. Most of the other homes are in very bad condition. Altogether quite an unpleasant experience.
The decor is fun and rooms are comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was great with a variety of pastries (peach and brown sugar scones!) and little fruit and vegetable dishes. Loved the watermelon with basil simple syrup and tomato, cucumber, edamame salad. The staff were friendly and really helpful with restaurant suggestions for vegetarians like us. The hotel is in a great location and made it easy to walk around town exploring the waterfront and historic buildings and was a quick drive to the mansions and cliff walk. We love Newport and would definitely stay here again.
We booked to stay for 3 nights. We left after 2 nights and forfeited our $499 room charge for that third night as we were so unhappy with the quality of the room and the facility as a whole. The finish to what I believe to be a recent construction / refurb project is so low quality and disappointing - if you are really unlucky you get a pool table outside of your bedroom door which is just bizarre. The location is fine, and we have no problem paying $500 for a room for a night - but at that rate you expect high quality and this is actually very poor quality - from the finish, to the bedding, to the weak water flow in the shower, to the constant noise of water flowing through some pipes over our bed each night. We were so disappointed and could not recommend this location. Our next stop was a beautiful old house in East Hampton on Long Island - the Hedges which I have reviewed separately, and I think the owners of Gilded should aspire to reach the quality of our East Hampton accommodation because today they are charging the same rate but failing by a very long way to match the quality.
This charming little Inn is tucked up near Bellevue Ave. and has all the amenities for a weekend getaway. The Boutique Inn offers high quality hotel bedding and towels, iPad to plan your activities, and the most delicious tapas style breakfast. You can walk to all the Newport activities-Cliff walk, beach, Restaurants, Mansions, shopping, and harbor front. Parking and Breakfast included makes a nice touch! Check this Inn out!
Staff was friendly. Hotel centrally located. But, the room was too small. Bed corners were black and stuck out - we kept hitting them, getting bruises. Air conditioner did not work even after they checked. Should have buffet breakfast with scrambled eggs etc instead of tiny dishes with different little selections. Decor in sitting room appalling. Narrow, difficult to manage stairs.
What an amazing place to stay. Not only is the decor fun and unique the hospitality was first rate. The location is perfect...close enough to walk to the wharf but far enough that it was still quiet at night. The breakfast was amazing...served tapas style with small plates allowing you to sample several of the different offerings. They even put balloons in our room for my boyfriend's birthday. Providing an ipad at check in for each guest loaded with apps highlighting local restaurants and things to do was a great touch for first time visitors to Newport. Highly recommend.
The B&B is in a terrific location, within walking distance of downtown Newport's highlights but tucked away so that it's off the main drag in a quite neighborhood...we slept with the window open. The inn is well decorated, cozy and fun. The garden space is tranquil and beautiful. The small plates breakfast is outstanding and Heather is a gracious host. Tight but sufficient parking between the spaces behind, and on the side of, the building. Recommend and would stay again.
We had a great stay at Gilded for just one night in April. Our room perfectly clean and the bed was superb. The mattress and bedding was so comfortable that it was probably my favorite part of our stay. Our room had a nicely updated, contemporary bathroom with extra-large shower and there were plenty of outlets, even though the building is an older house that's been updated in certain ways. The wide, pine wood floors are beautiful, and the furniture in our room and all around the common areas of Gilded was all in perfect condition. There was a pool table in one room near the lobby and breakfast was served in a long, rectangular room with windows that look onto a patio that occupies the space between the two buildings that make up the hotel. Speaking of breakfast, it was wonderfully prepared and not what you'd call a western-style bacon and eggs offering. Instead, breakfast was served on small plates which were there for the taking on a counter in the lobby. (Note the gorgeous light fixtures featuring realistic models of birds that look as if they're flying around a bird cage.) The staff kept bringing out newly plated food choices as guests picked up plates of hard boiled eggs with chopped asparagus, sliced grapefruit, assorted small pastries, and other kinds of interesting options. The coffee was great and I took one to go. The only thing keeping me from rating this 5 bubbles is that I just tend to notice things that need a little maintenance, wherever I stay. On the outside of the building, some of the wood trim needs a bit of attention, which can be expected of any wooden house. The purple paint on the outside of the building looked great but some of the trim, like a piece of molding on the steps to the second building needed to be fitted back into place. New England winters can make upkeep a challenge but spring is here and it's time to get after those little details. We would stay here again. Oh, and I almost forgot about the music playing during breakfast. I'm not sure who the artist was but she was singing fascinating covers of 90s hard rock songs. It definitely fit with the Gilded vibe and I enjoyed it.
We stayed at the Gilded Hotel in Newport for one night. It's a fabulous hotel. I would highly recommend. The staff are so friendly and really helpful. We got some great indormation on Newport and what to visit. Fabulous breakfast and scrumptious home made cookies on arrival. The room was fabulous - beautifully decorated. The whole place was amazing. Only regret that I had booked one night only. Would have loved to have stayed longer.
