My wife and I brought our 6-year old grandson, for a short 4 day trip. We have been to MB over 40 times, but this was our first stay at Island Vista. We had a wonderful time, and were not disappointed with the resort. The staff at the front desk were very kind, and helpful, and did not attempt to rush you thru the check in process. The parking deck was tight, but I have never been in one that wasn't. Our 1 bedroom room was on the 8th floor, near the end of the hallway. The room was spacious, with 2 queen beds. The room was very clean, and the furniture looked fresh, not worn like some places do, at the end of summer. They have 3 elevators in the middle of the building, and the wait was never lengthy. The indoor pool area was amazing, and enormous. It was great for kids, keeping them entertained, without being in the hot sun so much. They also have multiple outdoor pools, and the landscaping is very nice. There are no other hotels on either side for over 1/2 mile, so we did not have to worry about a crowded beach. You can even rent DVD's for free, in the lobby, while staying at Island Vista. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, and will return in the future.
Great Location - oceanfront room well worth the extra cost. Great beach and pools for both young and old. Very clean rooms and throughout the resort. Only drawback was the parking garage. Extremely narrow spaces (must back in) and very scary twists and turns getting to the upper floors. Good WiFi connections throughout. Lots of beach towels available.
Great location to the beach. Stayed in unit rented by a third party. Room needs upgrading, starting to look dated. On site dining is very good and convenient. Parking deck is very tight and dark. Employees use vacant bays to hang out and smoke throughout the day. Visitors frequently smoke on the balconies. We complained to the resort and they blamed the condo association. Resort employees are nice, but very laid back. Would like to see more attention to detail when it comes to cleanliness. The large window from the master bedroom was noticeably dirty on the outside and somewhat obstructed our view. The pool is serviced every morning, but could use another cleaning by noon. We loved the convenience to the beach and our rental came with complimentary beach chairs for the week! I hope the owners will step up the attention to detail and continue to upgrade the property as it ages. We would love to make this a place to return every trip to Myrtle Beach, but already have booked other places for winter and spring breaks.
The Island Vista is a beautiful resort . Our room was on the 12 th floor and had fabulous views. The rooms were clean and spacious. We stayed in a 3 bedroom, 3 bath unit . I was very pleased with everything about this resort, except the fitness room. The fitness room is cramped , dark and filthy. It is in dire need of repairs to the walls and a fresh coat of paint would do wonders. The worst part was if more then 2 people wanted to use a machine, i.e. Treadmill or elliptical, the electricity would shut off so only 2 people could work out at one time. Very frustrating. I would have given the resort 5 stars if it wasn't,for the disappointing fitness center.
I had high hopes for a relaxing, enjoyable stay at Island Vista Resort this week, but I was quite disappointed. First of all, I was specifically looking for a quiet room. I called and spoke to Steve on the phone and asked if we could have a room away from the elevators, etc. He told that we would be all the way at the end of the hallway, with no room on one side and a shared entrance to a suite on the other side. I didn’t really understand how this would look, since I’ve never had an arrangement like that before. Well, as it turned out, the two units had an adjoining door (which was no problem), but they also had a “foyer” in common, so there was one (locked) door that opened into this space where there were then our two (locked) doors. It really seemed like this double-door arrangement was totally unnecessary; even if the parties staying in both units were associated with one another, why couldn’t they just have two separate entrances? The problem was that the other unit was a 3-bedroom condo, and there was a party of at least 7 people staying there. They were a fun-loving group, coming and going frequently and they had numerous other visitors who often banged on the outside door (possibly not realizing that they were essentially banging on our door, as well). While we didn’t hear them through the wall (I guess the soundproofing was good!) we could hear them through the doors and definitely heard the door opening and closing until almost 1 AM, along with the aforementioned banging, which was greatly amplified by this small, totally unnecessary foyer. We did say something to the front desk, and that may have caused a slight improvement, but we really couldn’t blame these people for wanting to be able to enjoy themselves on their vacation. It is a bad setup, and I can’t imagine why we would have been put in that room when I asked for something quiet. In addition to the noise, my first impression of Island Vista was that it was cramped and dated. The lobby is small and the décor needs to be updated. Parking is difficult; it is hard to find a place to put your car while you’re checking in and the garage is very tight. Good points were the restaurant, The Cypress Room, the pool area, friendliness of the staff, and the location (right on the beach, away from the main tourist area). However, I would have expected a resort hotel to have more features, such as a small convenience store on site to purchase snacks or other needed items, a game room, etc. For food, snacks or drinks, it’s just the restaurant, Tiki Bar, and vending machines. Our room (Rm. 800), in addition to needing serious upgrading, was also not the cleanest. We are not the type of people who bring cleaning supplies with us on vacation, and I don’t go around checking every nook and cranny for dust. But I could see the caked filth on the AC filter from across the room on the first day we were there. I was going to call to have it cleaned (I hate doing that, and have never had to do it anywhere before), but my husband insisted that he could clean it himself. He did the best he could, and I could actually feel the AC working much better afterwards. The walls needed to be painted and plastered, and the upholstery on the chairs was not clean. You just got an overall feel of uncleanliness. We even went out and bought some WD-40 to spray on the bathroom door, because it was loudly creaking every time it was opened (which was not a great thing in the middle of the night). Again, we could have reported it, but we figured we could always use it at home and it wasn’t a lot of trouble to do it ourselves. The bathroom was basically ok (although it also needed painting), but there was only one small towel rack, not even large enough to hang a bath towel, and the towels left for us by housekeeping were piled up on the edge of the vanity…leaving no space for our toiletries. We had to put the towels under the sink, as there was no other room for them. I actually don’t understand all of the positive reviews this place receives, unless the other rooms are much, much nicer. The thing is, you know they have to realize this place has not been painted, redecorated, or thoroughly cleaned in a very long time. This is not reflected in the price they charge. It cost far more than we normally spend on a hotel room, and we are accustomed to getting beautiful, clean, quiet accommodations. I feel like all we paid for was the location and view. I would not recommend Island Vista to anyone and would certainly never stay there again.
We try to make it to the beach at least 2 times per year and we LOVE staying at Island Vista. I love the location, the furniture is more luxury than 'beachy' and I really like that! Plus, there is a free movie rental boxy thing in the lobby. I'll be back this weekend to stay at the beach but they were booked so UNFORTUNATELY, we're having to stay somewhere else. We will try again in a few months!
Lovely rooms, oceanfront, pools, good for adults or kids. Outdoor lounge with adult beverages and gorgeous view. Private patio the length of the hotel will multiple pools. Lounge chairs scattered under palm trees and only a few steps to the ocean. We stayed toward the top in a fantastic room...you could literally live in it. Living room, deck with chairs, dining area, beautiful bedroom down the hall and even your own washer & dryer. Have fun.
Had a great stay at Island Vista, decided when I moved away from MB if I ever came back I would stay here. We were not disappointed, it's away from other hotels so the beach were never overcrowded even on July 4th. Front desk staff were not very good, gave very little information at check in, on two different occasions different women came out of the back chewing food to greet guests could use some hospitality training. Had breakfast in restaurant, very good old school white tablecloth service. Parking was tight for pickup trucks. Rooms were nice and beds very comfortable. We will be back great stay.
We booked this place based on trip advisor reviews. Loved the location. Beach was not at all crowded, even in mid-July. As other reviews state, garage is small and tight but we had no issues and there were always spaces. Management should give the staff a separate break area as many used the garage to sit and smoke,we saw this daily. We had a two bedroom unit. Great water pressure in showers. Issues were minor- several burnt out light bulbs that were never changed. Master bedroom furniture was dated and beat up. Pillows were awful, bring your own. Cable box on tv in master bedroom hung down on the middle of the wall. Looked terrible. Baseboard In master bedroom may have never been dusted ever. Furniture in other bedroom was in better condition. Entire unit could use touch up paint. Walls were scuffed. Bathrooms appeared to be very updated and were clean. We were on floor 12, great views. Housekeeping came every day but never showed up the next to last day. They will not touch or move your things. Which is good and bad. Cooler sat on floor, sand under it never cleaned all week, presumably bc they didn't touch our belongings to move them. At the end of the day,I guess I don't mind that. Towels were always replaced and bed sheets changed and beds made. They also ran dishwasher several times. We called once bc of a coffee maker issue and within 5 minutes they sent up a brand new one still in the box. Great service. Pool area was nice but all the chairs are 'saved' with towels by 730am even though no one is sitting on them. Management should remove the towels. We witnessed a group of 12 every single day save pool chairs at the crack of dawn, and then sit 10 feet from us on the beach for literally hours, only going up to the pool around 430pm. Ridiculous. Also a lot of kids running wild screaming and being chaotic at the lazy river. Totally the parents fault as not once would we see anyone check on them, hotel can't help that. Lazy river and splash pools are nice. Pool bathrooms should have drains. Sopping wet with water puddles although housekeeping tries to keep up with it. Hotel Elevators were quick, and never seemed busy. Overall we really enjoyed Island Vista and will definitely return. It's in a great location, beach is lovely, rooms are large and nice.
Island Vista is the only place to stay while vacationing at Myrtle Beach. It provides it's on getaway from the hustle and bustle while keeping the entire family entertained. The pools are clean and well maintained. The rooms are lovely and up to date. The housekeeping staff are top notch! The restaurant and Tiki Bar have extensive varities that appeal to all palates.
