I frequently stay at the Sand Dollar. It's budget friendly and the staff is always helpful. The pool is well maintained and they have an elevator which is a godsend when you're on the 3rd floor.

When I arrived the employee told me they could not find my reservation although I had my reciept on my phone ready to go. I chatted with a virtual assistant who attempted to help me and even called the employee who then put the Hotels.com rep on hold. The employee insisted he needed the Hotels.com confirmation number which I provided via the virtual assistant. He called a family member to help next. I could see over his shoulder he had pulled up my reservation. He then stated that he only had one room left (coincidentally its the double queen bed I reserved) and that he would rectify the situation. He also never picked up the phone with the Hotels.com rep that called the business that he put on hold. The tv kept turning off at random times while we were trying to watch. Our room was tucked away in a corner where the hallway reeked of cat urine, and half of our room was a window that faced a large busy street. The wifi was free wifi to a guest account that we were never given a password for, so apparently everyone in the vicinity was using their wifi. I dont recommend this place at all if you're traveling with kids. I would not recommend.

When we was checking in seen note taped to bottom of couter saying the power was going be shut-off that night. Clerk didnt mention it, I booked well in advance so they could have contacted me before I drove 10hrs to get there! They did cacel and refund, after Hotels.com contacted them!

The rooms themselves were pretty good, though I did find a cigarette butt on the balcony of one of our rooms, and I saw what I think was a roach crawl into the woodwork in the other room. Mainly it was the property - it's so run down. The photos in the listing on hotels.com are clearly from years ago when this property was maintained. The pool was dirty, and unheated. There was grass growing up in the cracks of the patio around the pool. There were only a handful of pool chairs, and no loungers. If you need a cheap hotel in an expensive area, sure, stay here. But I would not have reserved this property had I known its condition. Having said that, the staff was helpful and the price was definitely low. We unexpectedly had to get two rooms instead of one, so that was helpful for us.

Sadly, I will not be staying here again. I got there at 8 pm and the room I was given was dirty as if someone just checked out. The bed was unmade and trash (food) was left behind. The second room they gave me smelled like straight marijuana. We stayed for two nights and left the sliding door open to air it out but it did not help. The bedding had cigarette burns. The bathroom ceiling had mold.
