Madrid to celebrate She Who Must Be’s special birthday. A special hotel and a special restaurant were required. Hotel Unico seemed to fit the bill. And they did. The room was lovely, the staff helpful, the location was good and the restaurant Ramon Frexia fantastic. A perfect celebratory city break. Except.... The Sunday was cold and wet, we had had an unexpectedly good late lunch so we did not feel like leaving the hotel for an evening meal. However the room service menu looked good and why not? The service part was all we had expected - prompt and attentive. But the food! A club sandwich can be a thing of delight: light, crispy, tasty. This was a sodden doorstep of soggy toast, chewy bacon and cooked lettuce and tomato. And the tortilla de patata was reheated and had become a substitute for shoe leather. However, credit where credit is due, the staff were horrified by our comments and made redress. If only we had braved the elements ....
The decor of this boutique hotel is very nice but it's the personal touches that made it feel special. Beautifully presented chocolates in my room gets my vote every time! The location of Hotel Unico is fantastic. All the good shops and restaurants are within a minute's walk. The hotel staff were very welcoming and we checked in with ease and a drink in hand! The hotel picked me and my colleague up from the airport and dropped us off the next day too. The drivers were professional and friendly. The cars were high end. All in all a luxurious stay. Highly recommended.
The hotel is in the elite Salamanca district, yet close to the city centre. You can easily walk to most landmarks from here, and on the way you will encounter countless shops. The area is also relatively quiet, the hotel is in a small street, sheltered from traffic. I couldn't think of a better location. As for the hotel itself, the service is top notch. It is also a very clean hotel. There is a string sense that maintenance is very professional. The quality of the rooms is pretty high, too. The bed is very comfortable. My only complaint is the bathroom. The bath tub is a bit too narrow, the shower head is a bit too low, and it is easy to get water on the bathroom floor if one is not very careful. Also, the toilet bowl is a bit too small, in my opinion. There were some signs of decay in the bathroom floor and the inside of the bathroom door. These are minor issues, but one would expect a hotel of this quality to fix them. My overall impression is that this hotel is quick to provide excellent service, and just as quick to charge a lot of money for it. But one would expect that kind of pricing in this part of Madrid anyway. It is standard.
Hotel Único is a great Boutique Hotel in the Barrio de Salamanca, where all the top shopping streets are. It is a very quiet and discreet building with an exceptional service level. A Two Michelin Star restaurant is on the ground floor.
Some of the most attentive staff we have encountered throughout our European travels. Room was noisy first night due to an event in the hotel but we were quickly moved the next morning. Fabulous breakfast buffet each morning and hotel is centrally love cared to best sites.
The hotel is located in my favorite neighborhood Salamanca, where there are all the shopping opportunities, Tapas bars and restaurants just around the corner. Besides the fact that we chose the hotel for its neighborhood we were absolutely content with all other aspects: friendly and attentive service (thank you for supporting us with the birthday surprise), welcome cava, beautiful, clean but rather small rooms and great breakfast!
Very friendly staff. Very clean rooms. Funky small rooms. Walls are a little thin and could hear noise in hallways and other rooms. The hotel is located in a fabulous area next to terrific restaurants.
Great little boutique hotel in a nice upmarket location (44 rooms). many shops and boutiques within walking distance to the hotel. Rooms were of a decent size and amenities were very good. Service staff were very attentive and always ready to help. No pool but surprisingly they have a gym on site.
El Único is a beautiful boutique hotel situated in the area of Salamanca , a very high end area in Madrid. It is surrounded by famous designers shops. The service is top notch, everyone in the hotel is extremely polite and helpful specially a young guy named Alvaro. Alvaro went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable ,always with a smile. The rooms are very small , but comfortable . Lines and toiletries also very good. The only Ili I have about this hotel was the location of the room. The rooms during spring do not have AC only heater. We are used to sleeping with the AC on regardless of how cold it is. We had to sleep with the balcony doors open and because the room was located facing the entrance where the driveway is located we had noise all the time at 2:00 am , at 5:00 am. Also because the room was in the first floor next to the stairs and elevator the noise also came from the inside( people getting on and off the elevator , going up and down the stairs and even noise from the lobby could be heard) We asked to be moved but were told that they did not have anything available. I highly recommend this hotel, however make sure you do not stay in room #112 .
My daughter and I recently stayed at this hotel for 5 days The staff was just magnificent. They were helpful, very kind and very attentive to every detail. We could not have asked for better hospitality. It was just EXCEPTIONAL!!! The location "Barrio Salamanca" is very conveniently located. Gan Via was not our choice. This area is quieter but, walking distance to El Retiro, El Prado, and major attractions. We highly recommend this hotel. Next visit, we will be staying here again. Michelle and Nicole
