We spent 4 nights in Madrid and Unico hotel was amazing choice, from the easy process of ordering on line to the emails before our arrival that proposed any help and support for our stay and than our stay in the hotel was wonderful, small hotel with top service, they will never say no to any request and will help with everything, the breakfast was very taste with lots of choices and all great with fresh products. Only negative comment I have is for the bath room that was not suitable to such a hotel and required renovation. The hotel is in a very trendy location of Madrid with great restaurants , shopping and easy transfer to other area in the city.
Before I begin to go into the Hotel review, let me just tell you, I was never very upbeat about this trip, you see, I’m precious about having a birthday trip and each year it’s become bigger and better... Hawaii... secluded Seychelles Island etc.. etc... but after getting caught up in Hurricane Irma in September and wasting a load of money, I ‘sensibly’ by the way, not part of my vocabulary generally ... decided to rein it in a bit and just have a city break.... So after recommendation that Madrid is a buzzy city with good restaurants etc, spent days searching for the right hotel... this is left completely up to me, I’d be furious with my husband if the hotel sheets were the wrong thread count !! He he he ..... Ok, decided, Hotel Unico, not stayed in a Relais and Chateaux before, but know a rather nice one in Bath... besides, they have the endorsements small luxury hotels of the world, every time we stay in one of theirs we are more than happy. So, pleasant flight and quick 30 Euro cab trip.. Welcomed into the Hotel as if they were expecting us that very moment !! small reception area beautifully appointed with an equally attractive staff member, invited to sit down and offered, hot drinks, water, champagne or cava ... well when in Spain, 2 cava’s it is ... lovely start .. Our room was on the 2nd floor overlooking the small but well dressed courtyard.. we were given a quick overview of facilities and left to settle in, my tick sheet was immediately getting .. well , ticked . I’m liking this, I’m not convinced we weren’t upgraded, I should have asked, the room was much bigger than I’d expected, high ceilings 2 sets of French doors opening both onto a small balcony and a Juliette, huge bed with the finest pure white sheets, lots of pillows, standard size and square, I like fresh clean white pillows filling the bed rather than 2 pillows and a load of cushions you know haven’t been washed between guests .. winner winner straight away, I’m in for a restful sleep for a couple of nights, Bluetooth connection, That pleased Mr W no end, he’s a gadget man .. other features, Nespresso machine, perfect , mini bar, fully stocked.. not something we generally use but good to know it’s there should we get the midnight munchies, complimentary water, good quality magazines, nice toiletries, fabulous shower !! I would be so late for work each morning if I had it at home .. a real gadget mans delight, in fact this is the only time I’ve ever know Mr W to mention the bathroom fittings anywhere. Another reason for choosing the hotel was for the separate bath, I do like a bath after padding round a city all day, plenty of big pure white thick fluffy towels ... heaven.. I like white .. in a hotel pure white means pure clean to me.. Room, big tick, perfect.. The rest of the hotel, very instagrammable! a beautiful chic library/ drawing room very nicely furnished and decorated in Taupes and blacks with oversized crystal light fittings interesting ornaments and books everywhere, a very restful few hours could be whiled away in there, another lounge, private dining room, the showcase without a doubt is the foyer with its grand marble staircase shiny black and white intricately designed tiled floor and red modern wooden carving of ribbons flowing down the centre of the stairwell , it’s a real show stopper all back and white with the flash of red , Mr W, an arty amateur photographer moaned that I hadn’t bought my Louboutins for an arty staircase shot. After spending far too long delighting in the architecture and interior design of the hotel ( I work with show homes ) we went out to explore, We returned back at the hotel later to find champagne on ice and a birthday message from the manager Jacobo Recarte, the first time that’s ever happened to me, amazing, such a nice touch, very much appreciated. The Hotel is in the swanky Salamanca district with designer shops aplenty and good restaurants, we walked to the train station from the hotel and also the beautiful Crystal Palace within Retiro Park, we spent hours in the park, it’s gorgeous .. Speaking of restaurants the Unico Hotel is home to the 2 Michelin starred Ramon Freixa restaurant, another reason for me to choose the hotel, though I hadn’t thought to check the opening hours, it closes Sundays and Mondays, our only 2 nights in Madrid, a great reason to go back ! The service and warmth continued throughout the stay, turndown service with Godiva chocolates and at checkout the staff were genuinely interested to know what our ongoing plans were for the rest of the day and offered to look after our luggage and provide refreshments before our trip back to the airport later in the afternoon.. Not only do I plan a trip back, I’ll be looking to stay in Relais and Chateaux hotels again.. while I congratulate myself on picking such great hotels I’d also like to congratulate Jacobo and his team for such a warm welcome and immaculate beautiful Hotel ... it’s been a pleasure .
We visited Madrid for our Golden Anniversary and were extraordinarily well looked after by the hotel, its staff and management. They made our celebration a true pleasure. Our room, in an old building in Salamanca, was generous and comfortable. Their recommendations were excellent and we had a really lovely few days. We would certainly return, knowing that we would receive a true Madrileños welcome. The area, too, is very cool, like Mayfair, so great for shopping, restaurants, but still close to the great museums etc. The great plus, though, is the staff, who were delightful, laughed at my jokes and were charming and helpful to a fault. And the candies at reception are delicious!! Only one tiny, tiny comment. The hotel has a couple of lovely public rooms, one a library, which we loved for the peace and calm there. This was interfered with on one occasion by a loud, long conversation held by an inconsiderate guest on his mobile phone. I think that it would be an excellent decision to prohibit such calls in the library, which benefits so much from its peace and calm. As I say, just a very tiny comment.
Room was quite small. Impeccably clean & tidy, but very modern no-frills minimalist style. Our room also had no windows...just a skylight which was very odd and something I have never experienced before. Seems like we were put in the remodeled attic! Walls/doors not very thick and we could hear a lot of noise in the hallway like doors slamming etc. Most rooms seem relatively close to the elevator as the hotel footprint is not all that large. A great location if you enjoy shopping as it is located near all of the high-end stores in a quieter area. A bit of a hike to museums and attractions - a good 30 minute walk to the Prado.
A very friendly and excellent hotel in one of Madrid´s most prestigious areas. Staff were very good and the room very pleasant. Location excelent. Breakfast was a high point, very beautifully served and an excellent variety
I stayed at this hotel whilst seeing friends for a weekend in early January. I was unfortunate enough to have left my passport in the taxi on the journey from the airport to the hotel and so arrived at Hotel Unico with no passport. The staff we fantastic and immediately called and informed the airport as well as the taxi company. Within 2 hours I received a call from the hotel informing me they had located my passport and had paid the cost of the taxi fare for it to be returned until I was able to reimburse them on my return back to the hotel after my night out at dinner. This aside, all the staff are genuinely friendly and extremely attentive. It is located close to many boutiques and shops and ideal for walking around the city. The bedrooms are very nicely decorated and the mini bar and bathrooms are very well stocked. Overall I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel for a pleasant stay in Madrid.
My husband and I had a great and memorable stay. We flew in early from the U.S. and they couldn't have been more helpful in trying to speed things up so we could get into our room. While we waited they brought coffee and offered us a place to shower. The concierge team was helpful throughout our 5 nights there. They arranged the perfect Christmas Day lunch in a Michelin listed restaurant in Toledo, anticipated all of our taxi and transport needs, arranged advance tickets to the museums, worked out train logistics and made us feel like visiting friends. Great breakfast buffet, lovely setting overlooking the garden and a friendly English speaking staff that will make you get your eggs just the way you want them -- down to the minute! The lounges are supplied with beverages and treats. The hotel is located on a quiet street steps away from great restaurants, bars and shopping.
Location: a 30' walk away from the old centre, but close to the business district of Madrid and a few blocks away from a Metro station Premises: refurbished historic building, probably slashed down completely because the inside was entire newly built. There is no classic reception desk, but a salon where you are checked in. Service: staff is helpful and efficient, though somewhat distant Breakfast: absolutely out of this world - fantastic choice of fresh products and all served in a very zen-type of environment, a bit darkish though Room: not too spacious, but clean and efficient; the bathroom was rather small as well, just big enough to take a shower Overall: efficient top-notch hotel in central location for business travel, nicely designed, but the room is too small for this type of establishment
Last week I have spent in three different hotels around the Spain due to work. Hotel Único was a very nice and pleasant surprise. Short, two night stay, but have enjoyed every minute of it. The rooms may not be the biggest I have seen, but very warm, comfortable and functional. The housekeeping girls have done great job and the girls serving the breakfast were great too. Imagine starting your day in a amazing glass conservatory overlooking the garden and sipping your cup of tea. Loved it. Well and of course I have to mention the amazing staff in recepcion and Bell boys. So well trained, professional and still so naturally friendly... I Felt Almost like at home and for sure I would come back.
I had heard many good things about this hotel but I never tough it was going to be so amazing. From the moment I made the reservation to the moment we check out everything was perfect!! Pros: - Best hotel service I have experienced in Europe! Everyone was on top of things are ready to help with anything you need. I have to give special mention to Fouad. Who was my point of contact and did everything possible for us to have a great time!! - great breakfast. - good size rooms with great bathrooms - we went with a 4 months and they had a little present inside her crib. - Location Cons: - Rooms could use a bit more lighting and more closet room. - rooms service has a limited selection (but the price is super cheap). I don’t think I will be going anywhere else from now on!!
