NH Madrid Ventas4.0 out of 5.0

We spent 4 nights at the NH Madrid Ventas. It's excellent. Located a few minutes walk from Ventas stop station (red line) which takes you to the center of town, stop El Sol. You can even walk along La Calle de Alcala, which is quite nice, but at least 30-40 mins to town. Madrid is very well connected via metro, and you can buy a 2, 3, 5, 7-day travel card, which allows you to use the buses/trams, and commute from/to the airport. We bought 5 days for £25 at the airport, great deal. You can reach the hotel from the airport via metro, not a long a ride. Barajas airport is not far from the city. The area of the hotel is residential, it feels quite safe to walk at night, and it's a short walk to the station. The rooms are very clean, something that I value a lot. They are small, but the bathrooms are large. You get all what you need in terms of space and facilities for a city break. The hotel is really nice decorated, with a neutral and modern feel. The breakfast is wonderful, absolutely delicious, and the service great. You can order your eggs to the carte. A great stay. We will consider staying at another NH hotel after our experience.
The hotel location was perfect for where I was working and the room itself was efficient and clean. The room was rather noisy though and the service was poor compared to what I experienced in the rest of Madrid. The lady at the front desk was too busy talking to her friend when I checked in and then was consistently trying to sell me things such as breakfast etc. When I asked about taxi's she treated me like I was asking her to run a marathon for me and said one would come but it never did, so I doubt she even tried. I wasn't even explained the directions to my room and she had her phone out before I'd left the desk. I asked for some advice about what to see in the area from another staff member and was treated again like I had asked for a lot. It reminded me of nightclubs I'd been to when I was 20. Just based on the service alone, I wouldn't recommend this place which is disappointing, as the location and potential is great.
Only stayed in the hotel for a few hours as my flight was very late and I did not get the opportunity to have any breakfast. The room was very good and the hotel staff were very helpful considering how late it was when I checked in.
Nice neighborhood hotel. Staff and facilities were very nice. However, the rooms were noisy due to eveything in the the hotel having tile. Any noise in the hall echoed throughout the hotel. Need the TV on just to drown out any other noises. The hotel is a 2 block walk from the Ventas train station. Very convenient to get to the tourist areas. Small cafe next door allows you outdoor relaxation in a quiet non-tourist neighborhood.
We booked this hotel for 3 nights and needed somewhere not too far from the center, clean and comfortable. However, from the point we checked in to the point we left the whole experience was awful. Below is the list of negatives that I am sure the hotel will read and find an excuse to justify: * Upon arriving at the hotel we were greeted by a very cold and sad looking staff member who barely spoke any English and took almost 20 min to check us in. There was no "Welcome to Madrid" or even "welcome to NH hotel" * Our room had many issues from not having enough towels ( I called twice to the receptionist to get them to bring some up) to dust everywhere. * On the first day we arrived I spent some time taking advantage of the outdoor pool area, which to be honest was the main reason why we had chosen this hotel, but on the 2nd day when I wanted to go and sit by the pool and read my book I was told that the pool area is closed for the summer. I said to the staff at the reception desk that I was not told this at the time of the booking when I asked specifically if the pool area would be open during our stay. After a lot of back and forth with them insisting that I was not allowed to be anywhere near that area. I informed them that I am highly disappointed with the service and generally the manner in which they were speaking to me. Seeing that I was getting upset and well emotional I left the reception area to go back to my room. The staff knew very well that I was upset no one made an effort to rectify the situation. * The room was big but unfortunately very dusty and noisy (we had a room facing the road). The bed again very big (king size) but very very uncomfortable. * The Hotel staff did not provide us with any help or guidance on directions or even a hello or goodbye when we came into or left the hotel walking past the reception area. *The room that we had given was so dated that we could actually see damp patches on one side of the wallpapered wall. * Upon checkout which was so quick that it almost felt like they wanted my husband and I to leave already. No staff member asked how our stay was and if we had enjoyed ourselves in Madrid. This was our first time in Madrid and our first time staying at one of the NH branded hotels and I have to say it will be the last time I will ever stay at any of their hotels. I do undersstanfd that this is not a 5-star hotel but to not even smile or greet the people who are choosing to stay at your establishment - well that's just basics isn't it. SO PLEASE AVOID!!
We checked in late and got the perception that we were an inconvenience to the front office team on shift that night. Turns out the a new hire (Ruben) was being trained by Lillian; she was keeping the whole operation together, during wave after wave of late night group check-ins. I grew to appreciate her abilities when she went out of her way to remember our itinerary, procured taxis to get us to and from our dinner events, and generally stayed on top of it all. I'd return in a heartbeat...because of Lillian.
A large business type hotel with good conference facilities (which is what I was there for). Excellent conference food and breakfast. Rooms are functional. No carpets in rooms or corridors so can hear noise of footsteps. Try to get room not facing road which is busy but interesting.
I stayed for two nights. The room and bed were comfortable. The restaurant was surprisingly good for a quick bite. The breakfast buffet excellent. They were generous with the pours at the bar. Location is fine. Would stay again.
Quite modern hotel with friendly staff. The rooms are large and well kept. The breakfast offers a wide range of healthy options including a great selection of fruit. Situated 5 minutes from the tube and bullring building. Short trip into Sol where the palace, cathedral and main plaza are situated. There's local bars close by.
There are no big surprises from this hotel. Clean, basic, a bit boring. The rooms doors have to be shut loudly in order to close them. So be prepared for an early, unasked wake-up calls. Rooms are on the small size for a 4-star hotel, and very basic. I left behind a shirt which of course was not found and registered with the "lost and found" office. Very disappointing. Overall an ok experience, but I won't return.
