Above all the hotel has an outstanding location. It shares a large plaza with the Westin Palace and The Ritz but at half the price. I paid slightly more for a larger, upgraded room overlooking the fountain and the plaza. It is worth the small upcharge - the room was adequately sized, but the view was nice. Note the standard rooms are smaller and overlook an interior courtyard. The room was fairly quiet - from time to time you could hear the street musician in front of the Starbucks across the street, but fortunately no traffic from a very busy avenue. The staff was very nice, welcoming and efficient, the housekeepers respected the "do not disturb" sign (not always the case in Spain), and the traditional decoration was lovely and respected the architecture of the building. The beds were also very comfortable. The only reason I am giving it a 4 rather than a 5 is that the air conditioner could not keep us with Madrid summer temperatures and the room could use a bit of a renovation. Some of the furniture and the bathrooms are looking dated. They're very proud of their hand loomed carpets (and rightly so) but they could use a cleaning and some restoration work. All in all a solid choice and I would return.
This is by far the most comfortable hotel I have ever stayed. Not only is the location perfect for both business and leisure, but all aspects of the stay were perfect. Most important of all, they have the pillows that ensure a good night’s sleep. I have stayed in many 5-star hotels, and they all have comfortable beds, but the pillows are never right. NH Collection Madrid Paseo del Prado is different. Moreover, the rooms are well-equipped, the interior lovely (the building used to be a palace) and the staff so courteous and helpful. 10/10 experience.
Lovely upscale hotel in a great location - walking distance to major museums and attractions, across the street from metro and hop off, hop on bus and several wonderful little restaurants within a few blocks. Hotel is well kept, clean, new and staff tries to help out in any way possible.
A fabulous hotel in a perfect location. Staff could not have been more friendly or more helpful. Because we were so impressed with this hotel, we loved our return trip to Madrid more than we would have expected.
We stayed for 4 nights in this hotel and made the most of its outstanding location. The hotel was comfortable and well managed. Although there was only one small elevator, we rarely had to wait more than a minute or so at any time of the day. The breakfast room (additional charge) was outstanding. There were so many cold choices laid out: breads, melons and citrus fruits, pastries, churros, meats, cheeses, milk and milk alternatives (almond, rice, coconut, soy and more at all times), homemade granola, all kinds of juices; and egg dishes were available on request. The location made it easy for us to navigate the central city. The first afternoon we walked just across the street to board Route 2 of the hop on-hop off bus for an overview of the city; Route 1 starts just another 2 minute walk beyond, at the side of the Prado. The Prado itself was just across the wide boulevard, Paseo del Prado, from the hotel. The Thyssen-Bornemisza was 2 minutes to the left outside the hotel. Calle de las Huertas was a 5 minute walk, and the lively Plaza de Santa Ana was maybe 7 minutes away. We walked to great flamenco one evening at Cardamomo, right near that plaza. Two of our walking tours started in Puerta del Sol, which was an easy 12-15 minute walk. We walked 15 minutes to the Atocha train station to take a day trip to Toledo. Taxis, which were easy to find, always got us back to our hotel without confusion or delay (if your Spanish is weak, just say "Plaza de Neptuno"). It seemed like the whole region was practically at our doorstep. The room was comfortable, though the bathroom was very, very tight. My wife stubbed her toe twice against the doorstop, which was inconveniently placed right between the commode and the bidet (picture that, and you can imagine how tight the space was). Daily cleaning and nightly turndown were thorough and reliable. Wifi was reliable and fast enough for FaceTime sessions with family. Highly recommended!
You couldn't ask for a better location in Madrid. It's just a hop, skip and a jump to the Prado Museum. Older hotel, but the upkeep is great. Small lobby with a friendly helpful staff. Our room had a great city view of the plaza. Our room was the oddest cut out - lots of weird corners and angles. Bathroom was great, good shower and good beauty products. The breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Would I come back here? Heck, yes!
In the corner of Museo del Prado, next to the Tyssen Museum, and just down the street to Reina Sofia Museum. The best art collections in the world surrounds this perfectly located property. Also, reasonably priced, friendly staff and very comfortable rooms. And you are next to many great restaurants and accessible to public transportation. We took the bus, the metro. A short walk to Puerta del sol. We highly recommend this hotel.
Wonderful hotel with welcoming, helpful and pleasant staff! Arrived at the hotel around 10 a.m. after an all night flight and allowed to check in early. The room was beautiful, spacious and clean. The bathroom was large and had a wonderful rain shower fixture, also liked the huge, fluffy towels, bathrobes and slippers. Great central location. Breakfast was very good with many selections. Would definitely stay here again!
Room was dated, with carpet that needed replacement. Room was street level, overlooking the street and was quite noisey. Had we stayed more than one night, I would have moved rooms. Shower was quite odd - the handheld shower was permanently mounted half way up to bar, which meant you were forced to use the rain shower. Would have moved rooms had we stayed more than one night. However, the location was good, centrally located, and near the fountain.
We loved the location, close to Prado, Retiro, and an easy walk to Puerta del Sol. The breakfast buffet is incredible. Truly, the best breakfast buffet I have ever encountered. I already look forward to returning, and making this my anchor for walking and exploring Madrid.
